Running Update 1.2.17-1.8.17

ru

Last Week:

  • Monday – I decided to squeeze in an evening run since Tuesday had rain in the forecast
img_3740

getting bored with the Ualbany loop so ran through the streets of Delmar

  • Tuesday – Glad that I planned a rest day since it rained most of the day.  I did play tennis in the evening instead.
  • Wednesday – Finally dragged myself out for a short lunchtime walk.
img_3743

I went for a run after work with Alyssa. The day started out warm but by the time we ran, it had gotten much colder and then during our run, it started to sleet.  Fun. Fun.  Well, we just ran faster.

img_8059

3 wet miles

After the run, I met my running buddy, Barbara, for a drink & a bite to eat.  I haven’t seen her in a while since she has been out of commission with an injury. It was fun catching up.  I hope she is able to run again soon.

  • Thursday– Another scheduled rest day.  I finally met up with my BFF for her postponed birthday dinner and a movie.
A man and a woman dancing beside a streetlight, a city view stretches out behind them. The woman is wearing a bright yellow dress, her partner is wearing a with shirt and tie with dark pants.

Enjoyable but left wondering what hype is about.

  • Friday – I did go for a run before my evening mah jongg game. I decided that I would try to run on the rail trail if it were clear and it was.  But I had a mental lapse – darkness and no lights.  What was I thinking?  I ran fast and only had to run the last mile in the dark.

  • Saturday – A scheduled rest day to do errands, get things done around the house.
  • Sunday – A very chilly day but I got some miles in. I ran with Judy who suggested the Nisky Bike Path.  When I saw the coating of snow, I almost bailed on the run (Judy wore Yak Trax; I did not.) But it wasn’t slippery at all and even though it was 15 degrees, I didn’t feel cold at all. It was very pleasant and slow and Judy & I got to chat until the last mile when I decided to need to get some in some speed. Afterwards, we went out to lunch. (I was starving as I didn’t bring any fuel on the run.)

After I got home, I rushed out to the movies with a few friends.

Monday Running Update

mon r u
Last Week:

  • Monday –  Had the day off from work so it would have been nice to go for a run but it was so windy and COLD!! Instead, I went to the dentist, did some errands and played tennis in the evening.
  • Tuesday –  Took my morning walk around work. I intended to run outside but the wind turned me into a wuss.  I ran 4 miles on the treadmill instead and then met my BFF for a movie (Carol).

  • Wednesday – A short run after work before yoga. Cold but not as windy as Monday & Tuesday.

  • Thursday – Another after work run.  It was cold and windier than Wednesday but I just couldn’t face the treadmill.
  •  Friday – Rest day and an evening of mah jongg.
  • Saturday – The dreaded 12 mile long run.  Today was the day! And the snowstorm hit south and missed us. YAY!!! I like to pick a new location for each of my runs so I chose Colonie Town Park.  Judy was again nice enough to keep me company on my last 6 miles.  And it was freezing but we survived.

My Stay-cation – Part II

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was busier on vacation than when I worked.

Well, eventually things calmed down.  I was determined to relax a bit before returning to work.

Day 5:

The day started with a cold 5 mile run with Barbara (who motivated to up my pace) on the paved rail trail.

img_8032

img_8033

Afterward, I went shopping and bought myself some toys:  wool, a puzzle and some coloring books and stayed home for the evening.

Day 6:

Since the weather was nasty, I stayed home and cleaned out the refrigerator, started knitting a lace infinity scarf, started my puzzle and did some coloring.  In fact, I didn’t get dressed until it was time to leave to play tennis.  Staying home to me  is very strange but it felt therapeutic.

Day 7:

I did a lot more knitting while waiting for my car to be done and then ran 5 miles on a surprisingly clear bike path.  Afterwards, I walked around the mall and bought things that I didn’t really need but bought cause they were on sale.  (Does anyone else do that?)  I was planning on either yoga or a movie but decided to stay home for the 2nd night this week.  (Am I becoming a homebody?)

img_8041

didn’t go this way

img_8038

phew -they cleared it this direction

img_8040

Day 8:

Another day of cleaning and playing with my new toys.

img_8047

But since it was New Year’s Eve, my hubby & I went out to dinner and then to a movie (Spotlight).  I stayed up until midnight (cause I always do) watching TV and drinking eggnog.

Day 9:

I spent a lazy morning and then ran a (free) 3.5 mile race which started at noon. I saw a lot of runners that I knew and it was fun.

img_8048

After the race, I decided to run some more… it was Friday and I was on vacation.  What else would I do?

I ran around campus and even discovered a new trail.

img_8052

img_8058

Even saw my first snowflakes.

img_8059

Afterwards, I did some errands and then went out to play mah jongg.

Ok,  so this day was not so restful.

Day 10:

Lot’s of cooking then errands and then yes, relaxing!!! But in the evening, my hubby wanted to go see a movie and so we did.   I wouldn’t recommend The Hateful Eight unless you like lots of blood and gore!!

Day 11:

My last day of vacation and a long run.  I decided to go to the Corning Bike Trail since I hadn’t run there in a while. Unfortunately, the weather turned colder but it was still bearable considering what is predicted for the next few days.

img_8065

img_8064

img_8079

a cloudy day but not as windy or cold as I had feared.

img_8078

I had planned on 5.5 miles before meeting Judy but I was early so I ran 6 miles,

img_8077

got work on the timer thing

Then I ran 3.5 miles with Judy starting in the opposite direction.

img_8080

It’s great to have company on those boring long runs

Then ran another .5 miles for a whopping total of 10 miles.

And so it was over.

This is my only stay-cation of the year.

I take days off during the year but  it’s always to go somewhere or do something.

Happy Running! Do you take stay-cations?  Or do you take off work to go away?

My Busy Stay-cation: Parties, Running, Movies…

This is my fourth day of my vastaycation. And until today the weather has been great.

Here’s how things have gone so far…

Day 1:

I ran 5 miles on the paved rail trail…

img_7938

cloudy…but so warm that

img_7939

…I wore a skirt and a tank. Yes on Dec 24!!

img_7928

festive outfit?

That afternoon, the hubby & I went to see Star Wars and then out to dinner afterwards for a quiet Christmas Eve.

Day 2:

After opening gifts, I went to visit my mentee, Amanda. I love spoiling her kids for Christmas

img_7941

Richard is 9

img_7950

Matthew is 4

img_7947

my “pseudo” family

Later, I visited a friend and then went to see The Danish Girl with my running friend Judy. (That’s what Jews do on Christmas LOL)

In the evening, my hubby & I went to have Christmas dinner at my mother-in-law’s with my 2 stepsons, my brother-in-law, my sister-in-law and her hubby.  Lasagna, meatballs, sausage, the whole nine yards… so stuffed!!!!

After dinner, we went to my BFF’s to visit and see her daughter who was home from CA.

Day 3:

I needed to run off all that food.  It wasn’t as warm as Christmas Eve but it was still warm for this time of year (high 40’s). So I ran 2 miles on the Nisky Bike Path

img_7962

img_7969

img_7968

…and then ran 6 more miles with Judy.

img_7970

It was a really nice run and I enjoyed running with a friend instead of by myself.

img_7980

Judy made me look fast here. Thanks!

After my run, I rushed home to go to movie #3, Joy with 3 tennis friends.

In the evening, I took Amanda out for a belated birthday celebration to Canvas, Corks & Forks.

Here you eat as much as you want of 4 types of mac n cheese, drink and also paint…

After all that mac n cheese, we still went out after for dessert!!

Day 4:

A little bit of catch up today – laundry, cooking, cleaning before going out AGAIN tonight.

My hubby also put up my Christmas present (that I picked out for myself)..

the bottom row – distances other than half marathon and some of my age group medals not all fit)

with the top row of half marathon medals  – I left room on the right for the Sarasota Music Half on Feb 7, 2016!)

I love the medal rack…but if I designed I would have had the back row fall lower so those medals wouldn’t be hidden.

As you can see I am already out of space. (What do you avid racers do with all your medals??)

Tonight is my annual tennis party – games, gift giving and lots more food.

IMG_4679

photo from last year

It is rainy and nasty today but I plan to do some running tomorrow!!! I know I can’t run off all those extra calories but I can try…

So far, I haven’t had a chance to relax…

Happy Running! Anyone else busier when they are off from work than when they work?

Currently

Being off from work for more than a weekend is very strange for me. I am not used to having so much free time and yet, not getting things done.

Reading…. I want to see Unbroken tomorrow in the theaters so I am trying to finish the book. (I doubt I will finish, though.)

Watching… I heard this show was good and I am binge watching all the episodes to catch up. So far, I am enjoiying it and I think I am hooked.

Drinking I have fallen in love with herbal teas.

Eating… out a lot.

Wishing for  Seasonally warm temps and DRY weather… no snow, ice or rain so I can run outdoors.

20131228-192516.jpg

Yay! Clear path.

Seeing next week… Going to MoMA in NYC to see…

and seeing the decorations that I missed on my last visit.

Loving... that I do not have to go to work and can RUN any time I want and do whatever whenever. I may even hit the gym.

IMG_4562

have to finish knitting this scarf by tomorrow!

Feeling… Anxious. I am always nervous about running a half marathon especially a destination race where I don’t know anyone.

West Palm beach, here I come!

Happy Running?  What are you currently….?

Here Comes the Arctic Freeze

dec29weather

Yup, it’s going to get cold around here. And you know who much I love cold weather…

The good thing is that I am on vacation and I don’t have to run in the morning when it is at its coldest and I don’t have to run in the dark after work.

Today it was forecasted to rain so I blew off my new running friends and did my long run solo yesterday. (As it turns out, it isn’t raining yet and I should have run with them.)

I have been going to the Corning Bike Path lately for my long runs and to change things up, I drove to the Nisky Bike Path.

The snow has mostly melted and the path was clear.

20131228-192516.jpg

I ran 2.25 miles to Lock 7 and then turned around.

20131228-192508.jpg

closed for the season

When the sun was out, I was sweating. Then the sun went in and the wind picked up and I was cold again.

20131228-192500.jpg

frozen enough for hockey

I stopped at my car for some GU and water and it was hard to get back out there.

But I did and ran 2.75 miles ion the other direction and turned around.

9 miles for the day…not all running…some walking…too much walking…I think I need those running partners to motivate me to not stop when tired.

Today is my rest day…cleaning up the house, some knitting, reading and a movie later.

I think I will enjoy this one.

Happy Running! How are you handling the cold?
