Weekly Run Down for 6.15.20-6.21.20: Being Flexible

As things are opening up (We entered Phase 3) and the temps are heating up, it was often hard to fit the running and walking into my schedule.

There was work, of course, but also a haircut, get-togethers with friends, runs with friends, boating, etc.

Almost like old times…not quite. But trying to focus on the positives.

Some days the run was before work, other days during lunch, others after work and some days not at all. Gotta be flexible.

Un-canceled Project - Run The Edge Store

the LAST week for these virtual races and the theme was LIFE Un-Canceled

Certificate

I have until Aug 31 to run/walk 1000k.  Still chugging along.

Last Week –

  • Monday – A beautiful day all around.  A walk before work in the ‘hood …

yes, today was purple day

and then a walk at lunch on the waterline trail.

no flowers …just a cute little bunny

After work, I drove to Albany and ran around the Washington Park area for change in scenery.

the flowers were in the nearby neighborhoods…none in the park. the rainbow was where I worked at one time.

the last un-canceled virtual.. I was hoping to do a longer one but didn’t have it in me today and that’s LIFE!

  • Tuesday – A busy day.

I had to squeeze a short walk in before work

white and yellow were the colors of the morning..lots of sunshine

And then a run at lunch (around the neighborhood.)

a little warmer than I would have liked but it was noon…I guess I felt RED hot.

After work, I had a hair appt.  It felt so good to look decent again.  I wish I had somewhere to go to celebrate.

Instead, I went on a walk at a nearby preserve.

my 2nd visit to Lishakill Preserve

  • Wednesday – Another busy work day and a hot one.  I declared this a rest day. With the temps heating up, it seemed to be a great idea.

I did get in two short walks in my neighborhood (before work and at lunchtime).

I liked the mixture of colors here

I figured you may want to see my HAIR – colored and several inches chopped off – however it looked better before wearing a cap yesterday and this morning. My shirt reminded me of my LAST race (got it when I was an ambassador several years ago)

After work, I got together with my tennis friends for dinner in the park.

Once they all left, since I was in a park where there were trails, I took a short walk on them.

this deer just would not get out of my way!!

  • Thursday – Another hot day so I started the day with my run.  Best idea ever!! And it was cloudy!!

Ever try to see how fast you run with a speed zone device? I got it to 10 mph WTH?

Then I took a short walk at lunch.  The sun came out and it sure warmed up.

always searching for new wildflowers on the waterline

And then after work, I drove to meet my running friends to explore some trails.  We walked at Schodack Island State Park where I had always wanted to go.  We had planned to do the 4.7 mile loop but missed the turn…we ended up walking 8.5 miles…. Oh, my aching feet!!

we laughed as it was still fun.

  • Friday – Fridays are my rest days due to a long run scheduled the next day.

I still try to get in 2 walks (before work and during lunch break)

legs did not feel as sore as I thought they would but it was warm out even very early in the day

took a different route at lunch …boring as you can see

and then explore a preserve or trail after work. After Thursday night’s experience, I want to find a short, flat trail. I decided to go back to Five Rivers (as I hadn’t been there in months.)

I was so nice there that I did TWO trails.

so relaxing being by the creek and flowing water

enjoyed this one as well

  • SaturdayLONG RUN DAY.  Again with the heat and everyone doing different things, the easiest part is to plan where and when to meet for brunch.  This time it was BYO at Chris’ house.

I drove to Corning Bike Path and ran 4 miles solo and then met up with some others for the rest of miles (6 for a total of 10 for the day.) It was steamy (and not a cloud in the sky) but I ran the last 4 miles with a friend using 30:30 intervals which made it almost painless.

After some gardening and laundry, I was rested enough to hit the trails.

This was a repeat and it is very pretty but sooo buggy!

  • Sunday – Father’s Day! And finally a day on our boat.  The weather was perfect and my stepson and his wife came along too. We all had a great time. We ate, swam and while they napped, I read a book in the shade.

can’t beat that view

And then I went out to a restaurant for dinner (an outdoor one, of course) for the FIRST time in forever.

This Coming Week –

  • Monday – run
  • Tuesday –  run or rest day
  • Wednesday – run
  • Thursday – rest day, trail walk
  • Friday – rest day
  • Saturday – LONG RUN
  • Sunday – rest day, boating

TOTR: September Report Card

Image result for welcome september
Fall has arrived. And we had some nice cool dry days but summer temps and humidity did rear their ugly head too.
Here’s how September worked out for me:

Weekday Runs:

I was able to run at least 3 times outdoors each week which is great because I do not have a treadmill at home. I prefer to run 4 times but sometimes it just doesn’t happen.

I ran at UAlbany (near work), near home, in a local park and at the Corning Bike Path. I even ran while in Rochester, Buffalo and Liverpool for work. My weekday runs were usually around 4 miles.

I ran alone most of the time. But Alyssa was able to accompany me a few times and new Judy once. I also hooked up with Laurie, a former turkey trot group member. It’s definitely more fun running with friends.

I thought the Turkey Trot running group started up again on Monday, September 18 and I would get to re-unit with my running friends as well as meet new ones. I even registered.  But it turns out that they changed the day for the first time this year – Tuesdays!!!  I cannot do Tuesdays… So no group runs or drills for me this fall.  Boo Hoo!!!

PP hills, I’ll miss you!!

Long Runs:

Long runs began in preparation for my next half marathon. I also snuck in a half marathon as a training run. The 11 miler was my only decent effort but at least I got the miles in.

Total Mileage:

I have run 87.5 miles this month so far. An increase over previous months and I am still feeling healthy so all is good.

Races:

I had several races on my schedule this month.  I skipped a local 5k but instead the next weekend, I ran the Saratoga Palio Half Marathon as a last minute training run.  It was a hot, humid day and I bonked the last 3 miles. I also ran the Helper’s Fun 10K, a hilly small scenic race. For this one, I ran a smart race, had a course PR and won my age group so I was a happy camper.

Cross Training:

I played tennis once (indoor season has started.) Again this month, I was out of town working every Tuesday 😦

I did NOT go to work out at the gym at all!!!! Not once! Nunca! Jamais! And my free membership ends in October!!!!

I thought I might fit in a yoga class. I did NOT!!

I did walk occasionally at lunch. Not everyday like I used to. I find it hard to tear myself away from my desk and I have been traveling a lot.

I finally got to go hiking after my 10k race. I loved it!!!

Other News:

The hubby and I continued our boating on the weekends. It was actually warmer in September than in July & August.

Despite working ALOT, I also managed to attend my weekly mah jongg games and monthly dinner with the tennis ladies.

As you can tell, running is not my whole life. I think it is important to make time for other things that bring you pleasure….family, friends, food….

Feeling healthy so Life Is Good.

Looking Ahead:

Two half marathons (#28 & #29) planned- October 1 in Corning, NY. and November 12 in Las Vegas.

I also have quite a few shorter races planned. I have to squeeze them in before the winter.

This is my list so far for the next 2 months:

  • 10-01-17 – Wineglass Half Marathon
  • 10-07-17 – Apple Run 5K
  • 10-14-17 – Great Pumpkin Challenge 10K / ZOOMA Cape Cod Virtual 10K
  • 10-22-17 – ZOOMA Amelia Island Virtual 12k
  • 10-29-17 – Goblin Gallop 5k?
  • 11-11-17 – RnR Vegas 5k
  • 11-12-17 – RnR Vegas Half Marathon
  • 11-18-17 – Girls on the Run 5k (volunteer with STEM) or maybe 11-19-17  – Race to Deliver 4m in NYC
  • 11-23-17 – Troy Turkey Trot 5k and Troy Turkey Trot 10k

Friday Five 2.0 – Fall Activities

It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.

The topic for today is: Fall Activities

The NE is the prettiest place to live in the Fall (though I may be biased).  So here are 5 of my favorite things to do around where I live:

1. Running

Obviously this is my favorite thing to do in all seasons.  But it is even more enjoyable when it is not hot and humid and the leaves are changing colors.

2. Racing

Yes, this is running-related but I love to race in the fall because there are so many races to choose from each weekend.  Every organization is trying to squeeze in a race before winter.

3. Hiking

The cooler weather makes hiking even more enjoyable. And then there are the pretty foliage to look at…

4. Eating

Cider donuts, homemade apple pies and pumpkin-everything… Need I say more?

5. Boating

It may not be warm enough to swim in the lake but it’s still beautiful.  Love riding around, hanging out by a bonfire and grilling on one of the islands.

** 6. Apple Picking and Farm Activities

I must add these since they are the only ones specific for fall.

Happy Running! What are your favorite fall activities?

Running Update: 9.11.17-9.17.16

Last Week:

  • Monday – Alyssa & I had to switch our weekly run from Thursday to today.  We were both dragging but it was fun to catch up.

A beautiful day to run in the park. Wearing my Florida shirt for those who in the path of Irma.

  • Tuesday – Another work travel day. The weather was quite summer-like and I was able to get a run in along Onondaga Lake.

After dinner, I went back to the lake to catch the sunset (and an ice cream cone).

  • Wednesday -I got in one more run along the lake before the drive home. Boy was it a hot one!! Has summer returned?

some days 3 miles feel like 13…

  • Thursday – It was a rest day and I needed it!!! I also needed to do some errands after work.
  • Friday – Just a short run at Ualbany before mah jongg. Yes, the summer humidity is here!!

I planted the rock in memory of my friend who died from ovarian cancer.

  • Saturday – We decided to switch it up and go boating today rather than Sunday. The weather was gorgeous.

Afterwards, we went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner.

  • Sunday – So many choices. A 5k, 10k, 15k, 2.9, 5.8, half marathon or long run. Which one did I choose?

It was not planned and it didn’t go as planned. The humidity killed me the last 3 miles but at least Alyssa got her PR.

Unfortunately I got rear-ended on the way home.  I stopped at a red light, the young girl behind did not.  I am fine.  The car can be repaired.

27 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday –  rest day
  • Tuesday – 4 mile run in Rochester
  • Wednesday rest day
  • Thursday – 4 miles with Alyssa
  • Friday – rest day, mah Jong
  • Saturday – 10k race – TAPER time
  • Sunday – rest day and boating

TOTR: July Report Card

Image result for goodbye july hello august
Summer has arrived. But actually it hasn’t been a hot one so far  – just a few humid days and lots of rain!!
Here’s how July turned out for me:

Weekday Runs:

I was able to run at least 3 times outdoors each week which is great because I do not have a treadmill at home. I prefer to run 4 times but sometimes it just doesn’t happen.

I ran at UAlbany (near work), near home, in a local park and even at the Corning Bike Path. I even ran while in NYC and in Rochester for work. My weekday runs are usually 3-4 miles.

I ran alone some of the time. But Alyssa was able to accompany me often. I also ran once with Judy. It’s definitely more fun running with friends.

I can’t wait until my Turkey Trot running group starts up again in September.

Long Runs:

No half marathons to train for yet (but soon) so my weekend runs were not very long or very productive.

Total Mileage:

I have run 67 miles this month so far (with a goal of 84 by the end of the month.)  Some skipped runs and no half marathon this month can be blamed for the low mileage. Still healthy so all is good.

Races:

I had several races on my schedule this month but only ran 2 – both 5ks. The Al Goldstein Summer Speed Series was an evening 5K in Brooklyn, a unique experience where I won my age group. I also ran the Silks & Satins 5k for the 6th time, set a course PR and placed 3rd in my age group.

Cross Training:

I can play tennis outdoors on Tuesdays. And this month, work got in the way EVERY week!!!! But I got to play two days in a row during a weekend on the Schroon River. (This made me realize how much I love playing tennis.)

I did go to work out at the gym several times. My goal was twice a week but barely made it once.

I did walk occasionally at lunch – around the outdoor shopping mall or the nature trail. Not everyday like I used to.  I find it hard to tear myself away from my desk.

Other News:

I went to NYC for work once.  Of course I ran twice and saw another Broadway show (Bandstand). With friends, I went to NYC  (Bronx) to see the Chihuly exhibit at the NY Botanical Gardens.

The hubby and I continued our boating on the weekends. I also convinced a friend to accompany me hiking on my day off.

If you remember from last summer’s blog posts, I have a good friend who has a house on the Schroon River.  She has several gatherings there to play tennis, hike and play mah jongg. Of course, I did take advantage of the scenery while I was there to squeeze in a run.

Running is not my whole life. I think it is important to make time for other things that bring you pleasure.

Feeling healthy so Life Is Good.

Looking Ahead:

No more half marathons planned until October 1 in Corning, NY. (But you never know…)

I have quite a few shorter races planned. My race season has kicked into high gear. I am even planning another race in NYC!!

This is my list so far for the next 2 months:

  • 8-05-17 – Race the Train (8.4 m)
  • 8-12-17 – Camp Chingachgook 10k working instead
  • 8-14-17 – Monday Night Mile??
  • 8-20-17 – Paris Run 8K (in NYC)
  • 9-09-17 – Malta 5k or 9-10-17 – Surftown Half Marathon (in RI) – still undecided
  • 9-17-17 – Palio 5k
  • 9-23-17 – Helper’s Fund 10k

Adirondack Distance Run Recap

Sunday, June 25, 2017 – 7:30 a.m.

A ten mile race consisting of rolling hills from Lake George Village to Bolton Landing.

adc

this doesn’t seem accurate. I remember a steep hill bet miles 4 & 5 and several the 2nd half

I always look forward to this race. I’ve wanted to run this race ever since I started running.

Except for 2014 and 2016, something has always come up: work conference, strained achilles, broken ankle, broken foot, flight cancelled & stuck in Baltimore.

This year, I signed up but I was not really prepared for a 10 mile race. I had been racing 5ks (last two weekends) and working on my speed.  My last long run was over a month ago for my half marathon on May 21. My running had also been on mostly flat surfaces. In addition, I was in NYC for work during week and that among other things had me skip runs. I didn’t run at all on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday. So I missed two training runs.  C’est la vie!

So yes, I decided to run this race but not as a race but just as a hilly long run….take it slow and enjoy the scenery. What else could I do?  (I don’t DNS unless I am injured or sick.)

The race started at 7:30 am in the village of Lake George and ended in Bolton landing (next door to the marina where we keep our boat.)

img_0249

the beach on the right is the end of the race

I had a few options. There was a bus leaving Bolton Landing the morning of the race at 6-6:20 am so I could have spent Saturday on the lake with my hubby & friends and sleep on the boat. But I decided instead to stay home and drive up very early Sunday morning. I wanted to get a good night’s sleep and get things done around the house.

So I got up around 4:45 am on Sunday morning and was on the road by 5:45 for my one hour drive to the race start.

It was already warm – close to 70 and sunny. I better to get used to running in the summer temps.

I got there and found parking in the same small lot as last year and walked to the fire station to pick up my bib. Then I walked back to my car to get rid of the race tee shirt.

this year it was long sleeved

Back at the fire station, I used the rest room (there were real ones) and waited outside until start time. I was surprised at how many people were racing – over 200 (but fewer than previous years) and all the fast runners who were there (from the local running clubs.)

I bumped into some runners whom I haven’t seen in a while, Annette from STEM, Sue my NYC roommate and Karen, one of the SRMs, Jenny from ARE among others and we chatted until it was time to line up.

with fellow STEM mentor

The race was not chip timed so I tried to start not too far back but behind the speedsters.

The first mile goes through town and is the only flat portion of the race.

I’m in the pink hat and socks

As I mentioned, this course is hilly but it is also very scenic (not Utah scenic but nice for aroid these parts). I planned to focus on the scenery to take my mind off the hills.

I also made sure to watch the uneven pavement since you had to run along the side of the road and there were many ruts.  And the traffic.  The road was not closed so you had to pay attention to cars and trucks going by.

As I mentioned, I had NOT trained for this race and the last thing I wanted to happen would be to strain or hurt a body part.  I stopped at every water stop (there were 5 or 6.)

that’s me gulping water but seeing a camera LOL

and I walked part of every hill.  I played leap frog with a lady in orange.  On the uphill, she passed me and on the downhills, I passed her.  We laughed about it. She would yell as she went by me “See you soon. I know you’re going to pass me!”

see, I told you walked!!

not me! I wish… (photo by Donald Yeaton)

The course is beautiful.  A view of the lake was on your right side for most of the race.
img_0269

Except for the beginning and end mile, the route was shaded by trees.  That helped a lot since there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sun made it fell warmer than it was.

I kept glancing at watch (finally had a working one) and even with all the walking, I was still running around a 9:30 minute pace for the first 5 miles.

Then I started to get tired and my lack of training became obvious.

img_0258

The hills were steeper the first half but the second half seemed harder. The hills kept coming and coming. And of course, I got a blister (I forgot to put moleskin on – my bad!) on the usual spot on my right foot.

But for the most part, I felt great – no foot pain, no back pain, no aches at all. I guess I could have pushed harder.  But there didn’t seem to be a reason. I felt strong and was enjoying the race.

I knew by the last few miles that this race would be a PR. However, it did look like I would have a course PR.  I was psyched!

I finally made it to where you turn right into the park to get to the finish line. I was surprised to see my hubby there cheering me on. (No photo, though). Of course, at that point I ran as fast as I could.

The official results say that I crossed at 1:39:35. Slower than my 1:38:45 PR but almost 2 minutes faster than last year. A Course PR!  I’ll take it!

Everyone got medals which is always a plus.

I was so happy to have finished. I was pleased with my time.

I bumped into some friends again. We headed straight to the water to soak our feet in the cold lake water.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh

A great end to a great race.

view of our marina from the race end

my friend Jenny still cooling off

Then I grabbed several pieces of watermelon and some pastry. The watermelon really hit the spot.

They randomly marked bibs for runners to receive door prizes.  AND I WON!

not something I will ever use but hey…

Also for this race, they gave out awards to first place in EVERY age rather than an Age Group. They had a screen with the race results scrolling and I saw that there were two 64-year old women faster than me so I didn’t stick around.

64 year olds

I walked next door (how convenient) where my hubby was waiting to head out on the lake. I spent the rest of the day relaxing in the sun on the waterimg_0425

and on one of the islands (reading a book) where we docked for awhile.

see the SUPs?

I was starved (Running 10 miles does that to you!) so we docked our boat at a restaurant and had an early dinner.

So back to the race…

NO Splits. They showed while I was running but they did not record.  (I’ll get this watch thing figured out if it kills me…)

I really loved running this race. It is the road that I drive every weekend during the summer to go boating. I know every inch of the route.

Maybe next year, I’ll actually train for it and race it. (Wait, I said that last year. LOL)

As I already mentioned, this race was on my bucket list and now it is on my race to run every year list.

Since it’s Friday, I’m linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.

My topic for today is:

WHAT I  LOVE ABOUT THE ADR

  1. Lake Views
  2. Shady route
  3. Watermelon for post-race refreshments
  4. Soaking your feet in the lake post-race
  5. 10 miles is a great distance (Aren’t the last 3 miles of a half marathon the hardest?)

WHAT I DON’T LOVE ABOUT THE ADR

  1. Hills
  2. Uneven Pavement at times
  3. Traffic on the road while you’re running
  4. No age group awards
  5. Not chip timed

All of the above are minor in my book.  Can’t wait for next year!

Happy Running! How was your weekend?  Did you run or do something else fun? Do you like 10 mile races?

Last Week:

  • Monday – Thunderstorms on and off all day but I was headed to NYC for work and hoped the rain would be over by the time my delayed train arrived.  Nope, it was raining even harder. No running in Central Park for me.  But I decided that I couldn’t sit in my hotel room all evening so I took my umbrella and walked 23 blocks and saw a Broadway show.

It was the only show available on a Monday and I was in the last row (but center).  The price was right and the show was very enjoyable. Ever see this movie with Bill Murray?

  • Tuesday – Still in NYC for work and stuck indoors but at least it had stopped raining. Of course I went for a walk during lunch and a run after work.

it doesn’t get better than this unless I didn’t have to work or I didn’t fall beforehand LOL

Covered 12 miles today. Half walking and half running with a fall caused by a dog thrown into the mix. Not hurt. Just more scars to my knees and elbow.

  • Wednesday – Another long work day in the Big Apple. No time to run before my train home.
  • Thursday – Back home and a rest day due to a hair appt after work.
  • Friday – A short run before my weekly mah jongg game.  Boy, was it humid.!!

even I was sweating and I don’t sweat much

  • Saturday – Rest day and catch up day around the house. But I did sneak out  to go to the gym, Starbucks, the grocery store and a movie (Paris Can Wait).

  • Sunday – Today I ran the Adirondack Distance Run, a hilly 10 miler from Lake George Village to Bolton Landing (where we keep our boat.) It was tough but I loved it!!  And I even had a course PR.

I won’t lie, my lack of hilly training and long runs made it tougher than it should have been but I was happy with the results.

Afterwards we spent the day on our boat of course with dinner out on the lake.

perfect weather to relax with a good book, with a good view and a great dinner

Last Week:

  • Monday – Another rainy day. I decided to test out the treadmill at the gym. I planned on 4 miles but I barely made it 2. I hated every second.

  • Tuesday  Rain again! I had to travel to Liverpool, NY for work. After I set up, I had hoped to find a running route. But nope, had to settle for 2 sweaty miles on the mill.

  • Wednesday – Stuck indoors at work and the rain had finally stopped. Although I was exhausted, I decided I had to run because it was Global Running Day. And I did!

5 minutes away was the Onondaga Lake State Park – wish I had more time and energy to run

2 miles is better than nothing…

  • Thursday – Back home and I got to run with Alyssa after work. I hadn’t seen her since her marathon so there was a lot to catch up on.

    at the Crossings

  • Friday – Just work followed by a trip to gym on a needed rest day before my weekly mah jongg game.

not just mah jongg…

  • Saturday – I had planned to rest and go boating but changed my mind and went for a run and then stayed home to garden. All that rain has made those weeds grow….

slowest run ever…

  • Sunday – Today I ran the Run for Help 5k as part of mentoring the STEM running group. It was brutally hot and humid but it is always such a rewarding experience helping runners run their first 5k and seeing runners from past STEM groups continue to run.

I didn’t even stay around to get my age group award. I jetted up north to spend the day on the lake with the hubby.

We ended the day with dinner out with friends.

And that’s a Skirt Sports dress

21 miles done with 6 runs and 1 rest day (3 of those runs were only 2 miles)

This Week:

Ultimate Coffee Date – June

Confessions of a Mother Runner

Since today is the first Saturday in June, I am joining up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

Over coffee or tea…

I’d tell you that my free 3 month gym membership ends today and if I complete my race (Freihofer’s Run for Women), I get another 3 months.

So far, it’s working out. I’ve used the machines at least once a week…sometimes even twice. That’s impressive for me! I’ve not taken any classes. None that interest me fit into my schedule.

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell you that I am enjoying not having to train for anything.  I can skip runs and run on the weekend whatever distance I choose.  (Oh wait, I always do that LOL).

Seriously, I don’t feel guilty if I only run 4 miles on a Saturday.  But I do have a HILLY 10 miler at the end of this month so I guess I better get out there.

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell tell you that I am going to miss my group runs.  Both the Freihofer’s and STEM weekly runs are over.  There won’t be anything until September. I am used to not running alone.  I got spoiled.

A group at work says they want to run weekly but they are not very serious (Only one person showed up last week.).  Hopefully Alyssa will keep me company.  Maybe even Barbara?

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell you that I was just in NYC for work.  I arrived Wednesday and the first I did after checking into my hotel was RUN! I also ran after work on Thursday.  I LOVE RUNNING IN NYC!! I was tempted to run again yesterday but decided to save my legs for today’s 5k.

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell you that I am also going to NYC for work June 19-21 and July 5-7.  Of course, I tried to find a race during that time.  And there is an informal 5k in Brooklyn on July 5 at 7:10 pm.

Yes, I did sign up…. (only cost $7.50)

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell you that I am a ZOOMA ambassador. Of course, that means that I promote and run their races.

The first one is tomorrow in Annapolis – a half marathon and a 10k.

I have a local 5k today so I guess I will have to add a 5k to my 5k to do the ZOOMA Annapolis Virtual 10K.

Over coffee and tea…

I’d tell you that boating on Lake George has started.  I have been on our boat the past two weekends.  Now I have to coordinate running/racing with boating and the weather.

Friday Five 2.0 – 2017

I am linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup!
Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.

This week, the theme is your goals, resolutions, or other things you’re looking forward to in the new year!

Well, since I don’t set any goals, I’ll post about what I’m looking forward to in 2017.

1. Running Healthy.

I have been lucky to have no injuries since 2013.  So I hope this trend continues.  I think the key is to not overdo and take your rest days.

I love to travel but working doesn’t allow me to do it as often as I’d like.  So I really appreciate any opportunity I get.  Of course, I try to tie each trip into a half marathon.

Sarasota Music Half - Feb

So far, I only have one big one planned for 2017. I will running this race alone but plan to meet up with a few non-running friends.

March 5, 2017 in Stuart, FL.

I hope to get in another destination race in the late fall too.

3. Annual Tennis Vacation.

A group of 10 of us have been traveling together since 2002.  And we have been going to Naples, FL for a week in May since 2006. We even rent the same two villas.

Every morning we take tennis lessons and then play doubles.  In the afternoon, we go to the beach.  And then in the evenings, we go out.  Tough life!

4. Girls Racing Weekends.

My first one was in Philly in 2014.  It was fun but last December’s was even more fun.

I have one planned for April 30 in NYC to run the Shape Women’s Half Marathon and another for October 1 to run the Wineglass Half Marathon in Corning, NY. (Anyone else running these races??)

Fingers crossed that we can fit in a blogger’s weekend again with the #holottafun ladies.

5. Time with Family and Friends.

Ultimately this is the most important. I plan to spend a lot time with them. I know I can schedule my runs and races around those gatherings.
