Last Week:

  • Monday – Alyssa & I had to switch our weekly run from Thursday to today.  We were both dragging but it was fun to catch up.

A beautiful day to run in the park. Wearing my Florida shirt for those who in the path of Irma.

  • Tuesday – Another work travel day. The weather was quite summer-like and I was able to get a run in along Onondaga Lake.

After dinner, I went back to the lake to catch the sunset (and an ice cream cone).

  • Wednesday -I got in one more run along the lake before the drive home. Boy was it a hot one!! Has summer returned?

some days 3 miles feel like 13…

  • Thursday – It was a rest day and I needed it!!! I also needed to do some errands after work.
  • Friday – Just a short run at Ualbany before mah jongg. Yes, the summer humidity is here!!

I planted the rock in memory of my friend who died from ovarian cancer.

  • Saturday – We decided to switch it up and go boating today rather than Sunday. The weather was gorgeous.

Afterwards, we went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner.

  • Sunday – So many choices. A 5k, 10k, 15k, 2.9, 5.8, half marathon or long run. Which one did I choose?

It was not planned and it didn’t go as planned. The humidity killed me the last 3 miles but at least Alyssa got her PR.

Unfortunately I got rear-ended on the way home.  I stopped at a red light, the young girl behind did not.  I am fine.  The car can be repaired.

27 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday –  rest day
  • Tuesday – 4 mile run in Rochester
  • Wednesday rest day
  • Thursday – 4 miles with Alyssa
  • Friday – rest day, mah Jong
  • Saturday – 10k race – TAPER time
  • Sunday – rest day and boating

Last Week:

  • Monday – Day off from work for Labor Day and the weather cooperated. The hubby invited some friends to go boating with us. I convinced him to wait so I could meet up with some new running friends and go for a run first. I ran with Judy again who pushed me through another no walking run.

easier to run without stopping when you are not alone

so great to get to know these ladies better before our Wineglass Half weekend together

Then we relaxed on the boat and BBQed on one of the islands. A perfect day!!

too cool to swim but still beautiful on Lake George

  • Tuesday – Back to Rochester for work. I rained my whole drive there but I got lucky and it stopped by the time I was ready to run. I drove to Lake Ontario and ran on the beach and then on a paved trail. It was awesome. Even collected some sea glass.

yes I met a guy dressed up as a wolf holding a pirate flag

  • Wednesday – After work, I had to drive to Buffalo and set up for work the next day so no time for a run.
  • Thursday – My goal today was after work to find a scenic place in Buffalo to get in a run. It rained on and off all day but stopped by evening and so I headed to Canalside. It was windy, cool and I even got rained on but thoroughly enjoyed it.

5 miles with views of naval skips, subs, lighthouse, General Mills plant, trams and more.

  • Friday – It was raining when I got out of work and I had a 5 hour drive home so I figured that there would be no running. But the rain stopped and I squeezed in a short one around the city before it started to rain again.

lots of interesting architecture in this city

  • Saturday – I had hoped to run one of favorite 5ks today but I knew I would be too tired and didn’t sign up. I also had the option of doing my long run with some friends. But I just couldn’t drag myself out of bed that early. So instead I ran later solo.

Tired hungry thirsty no music no running partner=a run with lots of walking. Not a good one!!!

  • Sunday – An earned rest day. And the weather was perfect for a day on the lake. We met up with friends on one of the islands.

28.25 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday –  4 mile run with Alyssa
  • Tuesday – 4 mile run in Liverpool
  • Wednesday -2 run in Liverpool

Last Week:

  • Monday – After my drive to Rochester for work, I headed to Schoen Place to run along the Erie Canal. I ran in the opposite direction from last time and loved it.

  • Tuesday – Still in Rochester for work and planned a repeat performance of yesterday’s run. But I stumbled upon a brochure for a lighthouse not too far away (I love lighthouses.) so changed direction.

The lighthouse was closed by the time I got there because I got caught in traffic due to an accident but I found a awesome running trail along Lake Ontario

there were motivational messages all along the trail. I wish I could have stayed longer.

and some hiking trails.

Views of Eastman Lake, Durant Lake and Lake Ontario

  • Wednesday – After work, I thought about a quick run before heading home but I was beat and had a 4 hour drive.  But I had heard that the best ice cream (custard) in Rochester was at Busnell Basin and when I passed a sign, it called out to me LOL.  So I had to run in order to justify the treat.  And it was definitely worth it.

ran under that bridge and over it to get to Abbott’s custard.

  • Thursday – Cloudy cool day and a needed rest day and hair appointment
  • Friday – Another rest day. A cool and fall-like one so I didn’t feel bad about missing a run. And I hosted mah jongg at my house.
  • Saturday – I did my long run today. After a late night, I met a running friend at 7:30 am for a mile (I know that’s late for you 5 am girls) and then several others arrived. Some ran 8, Judy ran 10 and I ran 10.25 more miles with this new running partner. She forced motivated me to run without walking!! My longest run ever without walking. It felt great. Afterward we all went out for breakfast to chat about our upcoming half.

Would you believe it was 40 degrees at the beginning of the run.

I spent the rest of the day doing all that stuff you don’t have time to do when you work. Since the hubby was out having fun on the lake, I went out in the evening with a friend.

  • Sunday – Today was the annual Christmas on the lake party.  It is always so much fun but the weather Gods were against us and it rained so they changed it to Saturday. Yes, I chose running over boating but I had Big FOMO.

pic from a previous year

So I spent most of day doing laundry and decluttering before we went out in the rain to a party.

21.25 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday – day off from work, 3-4 mile AM run, boating
  • Tuesday – 4 mile run in Rochester?
  • Wednesday rest day, work then drive to Buffalo
  • Thursday – 4 mile run after work in Buffalo?
  • Friday – rest day, work, long drive home

Last Week:

  • Monday – Yes, I was tired after my busy weekend but I still ran and then went for a walk in the mall with my bff.

my legs were not happy with this one…slowest ever!!

  • Tuesday.  Had the day off from work to go to my friend’s funeral.  Took advantage of my free time to run with Judy in the morning.  She wanted to run 6 miles and I didn’t think I could handle that many after the previous day’s sucky run.  So we planned to meet after her 2 mile warm-up and run 4 together.  Unfortunately we mixed up the meeting location and only ran 1 1/2 miles together.  But it was the best I’ve felt in a long time. You know, one of the rare runs that you feel you could run forever.  I think it was that it was the morning and I was trying to run slower than normal.  Who knows???

After the funeral and dinner at the family’s house, I played tennis. I was pretty rusty since I hadn’t played in a weeks but it was fun to see my “happy” friends and of course, we went out to dinner after.

Everyone got a rock to place somewhere in Carol’s memory. I think I will leave it at UAlbany while I’m running there. It’s where we met and studied.

  • Wednesday – After work, I dragged myself for a run at The Crossings (because I worked today nearby.)

yes, it ended at the ice cream stand.

  • Thursday – After a long work day, I took a rest day (on a cool perfect running weather day) and instead went out to dinner with my tennis friends. One of the ladies arranged for a Hula lesson beforehand.  So much fun.

in a park along the Hudson River

  • Friday – Another rest day. Just because…… I did play mah jongg in the evening
  • Saturday – I did my long run today. I thought I’d have company but ended up solo with my podcasts as a companion. The weather was perfect as was my post race snack.

On the Zim Smith Trail

After errands, I watched my hubby play tennis. Unfortunately, our dinner get-together with some running friends got cancelled so I actually stayed home!!

  • Sunday – I watched my hubby play tennis again and then we went up to the lake to relax.

views from my walk in town

my view for the rest of the day

We ended the day with dinner at a restaurant on the lake (with a stop for ice cream on the way home 🙂 )

20 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday – 4 mile run in Rochester (there for work)
  • Tuesday – 3 mile run in Rochester
  • Wednesday – 2 mile run before leaving Rochester
  • Thursday rest, hair appt
  • Friday – rest, mah jongg chez moi

Last Week:

  • Monday – Hey, a sunny day.  You have to run even if you are exhausted. And that’s what I did but decided to run at UAlbany because it was close by.

all in pink 🙂

  • Tuesday. Had to drive to Liverpool for work. It started to rain when I headed out the door to run. I was patient and waited out the rain and was able to run along the lake before dinner.

After dinner, I went back to watch the sunset.

  • Wednesday –  Nothing exciting happened today except for work and a long drive back afterwards.  Before I left for home, I set out for a short 2 mile ice cream run.

if you’re ever in Liverpool, NY, you have to have ice cream at Vicky’s.

  • Thursday – I ran with Alyssa for our weekly run date. For a change, we chose the Crossings.

Guess where we ended our run?

  • Friday – A scheduled rest day.  Rest was definitely needed!!

On a sad note.  My cat, Billy has been missing a week.  He is 12 and an outdoor cat.  I fear, at our neighbor’s garage sale, he got into some stranger’s car.  Although, he’s not one of our favorites and he is pretty aloof, I still miss him.

Billy is the gray one. Now we ONLY have 3 cats. LOL I’m still a “cat lady.”

  • Saturday –  Another rest day without much rest. Sue and I took a very early morning train to NYC. We had an awesome day touring the city including walking over the Brooklyn bridge and taking a boat to Governors Island. We walked 13.1 miles the day before our race.

  • Sunday – Today I ran the France 8K Run in Central Park, NYC. Any race in Central Park is a challenge but I had a blast.

After the race, we walked the High Line and around Chelsea Market and Bryant Park before taking the bus home. 15.2 miles. Phew!

18.5 miles running done. (23.3 miles walking in one weekend!!)

This Week:

  • Monday – 3 mile run, mall walk with bff
  • Tuesday – 3 mile run with Judyfuneral (instead of travel for work), tennis
  • Wednesday 4 mile run after work
  • Thursday rest, dinner out with tennis buds
  • Friday – rest, mah Jong
  • Saturday –  long run, watch the hubby in tennis championship matches, dinner with Wineglass ladies
  • Sunday – watch the hubby in tennis championship match, boating after

Last Week:

  • Monday – Sometimes you have to miss a run for some fun.  Today was a tradition.  The 32nd time having breakfast at the Saratoga Race Track with a former coworker.  In recent years, we have added on staying for the races. RaIn was forecast but lucky for us, not a drop fell until we were on our way home.

Won some races and lost some. Came out a little ahead for the day and had a lot of fun.

  • Tuesday. Had to drive to Rochester for work. Took advantage of the nice weather to get a run in on the Canal.

Even got to meet a fellow Skirt Sports ambassador who worked at Schoen Place. and then ran 4.5 miles (and had gelato post run)

  • Wednesday –  Nothing exciting happened today except for work and a long drive back afterwards.  Before I left for home, I was told that there was a nearby trail.  So I set out for a short 2 mile run.

not much of a trail or a view but some flat grass.

  • Thursday – I ran with Alyssa for our weekly run date. The Thursday night concerts had ended so we were able to run at the Corning bike path on the Hudson River.

It was hot and I was TIRED but she dragged me through it.

  • Friday – A scheduled rest day.  Unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy it since I had to go to a wake.

I’ve known Carol since college. She died after a 5 yr battle with ovarian cancer.

  • Saturday – Today I proctored the MPREs as a favor for a friend and then went for a run before the predicted rain (which didn’t arrive until evening.) I’d liked to say that the run was uneventful but it was far from that. I’ll just list a few things go that went wrong: forgot my socks, started at noon, sunshine, humidity, hunger, new route, unsavory neighborhood, missed the entrance to the trail, tired, no watch, phone died.

The good news was that there were bridges, dogs and a downhill mile.

still haven’t found all 20.

Oops. I meant 9 miles

  • Sunday – A weekend would not be complete without a trip to the lake. Perfect weather. Perfect place for a rest day.

Last Week:

  • Monday – A sunny day so I had to run. The warm weather returned.

On the rail trail

  • Tuesday – Finally got to play tennis. It was great catching up after at dinner as well.

at UAlbany courts

  • Wednesday – Since I was working near the Crossings, I decided to squeeze in a run there. Another warm one but I’m not complaining.

  • Thursday – No rain this week so far.  Amazing.  I ran with Alyssa for our weekly after work run.

it was warm but we celebrated our fast run with ice cream after

  • Friday – Another scheduled rest day. After work, I planned to drive up to Chestertown to stay at my friend’s house on Schroon River (to make my race day drive shorter) but I was pooped so stayed home and played mah jongg instead.
  • Saturday – Today I ran the Race the Train 8.4 mile race. I expected rain but just got humidity. And it was much hilliest than I remember.

Course PR and 3rd in my age group

Afterward I stopped at my friend’s and we decided to go hiking.

So much fun. We didn’t get as far as the reservoir but saw pretty mushrooms and waterfalls and hiked 4.2 miles

Hung out with friends, grilled a great meal and finished a book 😊

Last Week:

  • Monday – The day started out with rain but ended by the time I got out of work so I able to get in my run with Alyssa. It was almost fall-like with temps in the 60s.

  • Tuesday – This week I worked as technical support at the Bar Exam.  Today was the first day and I worked at the law school where I used to work so it was very nostalgic.  I decided to take advantage of the nearby track.  I hadn’t run on a track in over a year.  It rained most of the day (what else is new?) but stopped after I started running. I’ll admit that it was not fun but it was nice change and easy on the feet.

  • Wednesday – Back at my current job and a scheduled rest day ( Of course, it was sunny.) because I had a hair appointment after work
  • Thursday – I worked for the Bar Exam for the next two days.  Today, it was running AGAIN! I planned to run after work but instead accepted a dinner invite from a former coworker. Wouldn’t you know it.  It stopped raining so I changed my clothes and got in a short run near the restaurant.

Had dinner in my sweaty running clothes.

  • Friday – Another scheduled rest day.  And the second time this week, it was sunny (on my rest day). I just had to take a short run in my old work neighborhood before mah jongg.

  • Saturday – Nothing scheduled for the weekend.  Strange, I know.  And it wasn’t rainy or humid. So I started the day with a run.  I had not been to the Nisky Bike path in a while so I ran there.

Afterwards, I did some errands and stuff.

  • Sunday – A weekend would not be complete without a trip to the lake.  And the weather was PERFECT.

someone at the dock had 3 un-used kayaks for us to play with 🙂

Running Update: 7.17.17-7.23.17

So excited to be this week’s host of the Weekly Wrap!!

As usual, last week was busy. Take a read below:

ru

Last Week:

  • Monday –  If you read my previous week’s update, you know that I spent the weekend with my tennis friends at a house on the Schroon River.  Well, I convinced one of my friends to stay over Sunday night so we could go hiking the next day. The forecast was for thunderstorms but we got lucky and it didn’t rain until we were done.

While my friend was sleeping, I snuck out for coffee and an early morning run.

It was wonderful. Love the sights and sounds of the Adirondacks.

Then we decided to hike Pinnacle Point and Cat and Thomas Mountains in Bolton Landing. I had hiked them before but it was much more fun with company. It started to rain on our way down Thomas so we did not climb Cat Mountain as planned.

top = view from lunch bottom left = top of Pinnacle Pt, bottom right = top of Thomas Mt.

Afterwards, we drove into town (the rain had stopped) and had lunch overlooking Lake George before heading home.  What a fun way to spend a day off from work.

  • Tuesday –  I also took today off from work. Some of my friends and I decided to go to the NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx to see the Chihuly sculptures. It was fantastic.

the sculptures were amazing and mixed throughout the gardens

a busy day that ended with an Italian dinner and pastries in Little Italy of the Bronx

  • Wednesday – Back to work on a very hot, humid day.  Alyssa and I sweated out 3.5 miles. To do something different, we decided to run through downtown Albany looking for the Nipper miniature dog statues.

we found 5 out of 20 and ended our run back on the bike path

  • Thursday – Another work day.  It was warm and humid with a threat of rain but I stayed dry during my post-work run. From the rain not the sweat!!

Not easy in this heat. Lots of walking during this one.

  • Friday – A busy work day and a scheduled rest day.  I did stop off at the gym on my way home to use the machines before I had to rush off to s farewell party for a coworker.

view from the bar

  • Saturday – Today I ran the Silks and Satins 5k (for the 6th time). It was warm and humid but still a fun time.  I met up with a lot of runners that I knew and even came in 3rd in my age group.

27:37 (gun time) = course PR

Afterwards, I stopped off at the Zim Smith Trail and ran in the opposite direction from last weekend to get in some more miles before heading home.

It was cloudier than during the race but warmer. I struggled to get these miles in but rewarded myself nicely afterwards.

In the evening, one of the ladies who is running the Wineglass Half on Oct 1 organized a get-together for the runners participating. It was a fun evening.

  • Sunday – Mah jongg weekend at the Schroon River house got postponed.  (I wasn’t disappointed because I went there last weekend.) My hubby talked me into coming up to the lake.  (It didn’t take much arm twisting.)

19 miles done with 4 runs and 3 rest days

  • Tuesday – 3 mile run

Last Week:

  • Monday – Though I ran on Sunday, I wasn’t sure if I would get any more runs in for the rest of the week so I ran from work, around UAlbany and back before meeting an old friend for dinner and drinks.

Humidity returned ugh!! The A must be for (u)Albany.

  • Tuesday Off to Rochester for work (4 hr drive). I didn’t think I’d have time to run. But when there’s a will, there’s a way. I asked around the hotel and found my way to the Erie Canal. Loved the run. Wish I had more time but had to meet someone for dinner.

3 miles along the Erie Canal

  • Wednesday – Worked all day and then drove home (in the rain). A tiring rest day.
  • Thursday – Another rainy day. I went to the gym after work. When I was finished, it had stopped raining so I went for a quick run before it started raining again.

  • Friday – Of course, the day started out raining but it was a scheduled rest day.  Played mah jongg in the evening.

Good bye party for one friend moving south.

  • Saturday – Decided to get in a run on my way up to (Chestertown) Schroon River to spend the weekend with my tennis friends.

It was warm and humid but dry. But it rained in Chestertown. So my friends hadn’t played yet and I arrived there in time to play tennis with them.

Had a great day of eating, hiking, sightseeing, etc.

  • Sunday – Some of the tennis ladies left and others arrived. We had another great day of tennis and hanging out by the river.
