Today’s Topic is: What Does Community Mean to You Right Now?
To me “Community“:
- keeps you accountable by making it much easier to show up and stick to a regular routine.
- Cheer you up when things don’t go well.
- Offer a safe way to explore new routes and experiences.
I know there are runners who run solo. It’s their alone time with their thoughts, music, books, etc…
That’s not me…
I only run by myself when it’s too inconvenient to find a partner.
When I first started running, I just ran races each week to have someone to run with.
Since then, I’ve found that there are many places to find “community.”
Here are a few ideas:
- Local Running Stores: Staff usually know about weekly fun runs, track sessions, or beginner-friendly groups that meet up regularly.
- Fitness Apps: Use Strava to search for local clubs by location..
- Community Platforms: Search Meetup for running groups and social runs tailored to your pace and schedule.
- Social Media: Search Facebook or Instagram for your city name combined with terms like “runners” or “run club”.
- National Directories: Look up verified local organizations through the Road Runners Club of America or global networks…
- Local Races: Attend local races, volunteer, or look up free weekly community events to meet active runners face-to-face.
Happy Running! What does “Community” mean to you? You prefer to run alone or with others? Please share.

Well, I almost always run alone- but I get most of these things from our blogging community. The support, accountability, the cheering up… the only thing I don’t get is people to explore new routes with- I agree the safety aspect is important, and I’m missing that. But I do feel like the blogging community provides us with an amazing community.

I agree totally and that’s why although it is time consuming, I continue to blog.

While I do love running alone, I also love the community spirit. I think group runs and run clubs are so vital to the sport. And I love my online running friends for giving and receiving support.
I think some of the best friendships have been made via the running community!

These are all great reasons to love our running community, Darlene! Because I can no longer run, my running community is our group of blogger friends and six ladies I used to run with (we get together for dinner once a year or so).

that’s great to still keep in touch… that’s what I do with my tennis friends. But your community includes your biker friends, I bet.
