Running Update: 11.27.17-12.3.17

ru

Last week –

  • Monday – Missing my BRF (whose hubby is sick and she cannot run during the week) so I decided to run in the park around the Holiday Lights. A preview to my next 5k.

  • Tuesday – It was a cold yet sunny day to run but I played tennis instead.
  • Wednesday – I took the train to NYC for work. My plan was to run nearby (Wall St area) before dinner. It was super windy but warm. And you can’t beat the views at sunset.

  • Thursday – I worked all day in NYC and had planned to meet a former co-worker in the evening.  Still I wanted to squeeze in a run.

  • Friday – Again I worked all day in NYC and then took the train home…no time to run today.
  • Saturday – This morning, I met the Wineglass ladies for a run. I ran with Judy and Jan for about 5 miles and finished up with some speed for the last 1.4.

Of course we went out for breakfast after.

  • Sunday – Today was the first of five (FREE) Winter Series races. You could run 3m or a 15k.  I usually run the 15k but since I ran the day before and I am not training for anything yet, I chose the 3 miler. Friends +Foods + Free = perfect race. Finish time was 26:49. Happy with that!

Then in the afternoon, I gave my usual birthday gift to my mentee – painting, eating and drinking (at Canvas, Corks and Forks)

If you can’t tell, it’s supposed to Northern Lights

Next Week

  • Monday 4 mile run
  • Tuesday rest, tennis
  • Wednesday – train to NYC, 3 mile run?
  • Thursday – work in Queens, 3 mile run?
  • Friday – rest, work in Queens, train home
  • Saturday – hair appt, Last Run 5K race, book club
  • Sunday – rest day

Running Update: 11.20.17-11.26.17

Last week –

  • Monday –Not liking this COLD WINDY weather.  It was a struggle to get motivated to bundle up and run.

it wasn’t so bad and I ran at UAlbany which has lights and lots of fellow runners

  • Tuesday – It was a lot warmer (20 degrees warmer) but I was scheduled to play tennis. What did I do?  I ran a bit near where I play tennis and then rushed to tennis.

how could I NOT run to this?

  • Wednesday – Too much to do to run and besides I had two races to run the next day.
  • Thursday – Today I ran the Troy Turkey Trot 10k and then when I was done I ran the Troy Turkey Trot 5k (cuz that’s how I roll.) Neither was a PR but faster than last year so I am happy. You can read my recap here.

It was in the 20s at the start of the 10k but many dressed in costume and didn’t care.

  • Friday – Yes, I had to work on this Black Friday. I hosted mah jongg at my house in the evening which meant that I cleaned and bought snacks.
  • Saturday – It was long run Saturday with the Wineglass ladies. But since I ran 9.3 miles on Thursday, I opted to run short. The best part was gathering for breakfast afterward.  Glad my new running buddies like to eat.

I ran 4 with Chris & Alyssa. The others did a variety of distances.

Probably should have run more since in addition to breakfast out, I went out to dinner with friends.

  • Sunday – A leisurely (which is a rare one for me) day. Decluttered some closets and binge watched This is Us.

Next Week

  • Monday 4 mile run
  • Tuesday rest, tennis
  • Wednesday – train to NYC, 3 mile run?
  • Thursday – work in NYC, 3 mile run?
  • Friday – rest, work in NYC, train home
  • Saturday – 6 mile run or volunteer 5k with STEM
  • Sunday – or HMRRC Winter Series #1 (3M or 15k), Paint & Sip with mentee, Amanda (B-day present)

Running Update: 11.6.17-11.12.17

Last week – Race Week

  • Monday – It rained most of the day and it was cold and windy. Plus I left my jacket home. So I was ready to bail on the run. But Alyssa talked me into going to UAlbany. As usual, I was glad that she did.

  • Tuesday – Is winter on the way? It sure felt like it. Glad it was a rest day. But I did get to play tennis for a change. (It was fun and I used muscles that I haven’t used in a while.)
  • Wednesday – Off to Liverpool again for work. And I managed to squeeze in a chilly run before darkness. My last run before the big weekend.

The sunshine made it more pleasant

Then I went back for a sunset walk.

So purdy

  • Thursday – Another rest day as I needed to drive directly home after work.
  • Friday – Early morning flight to Vegas (through Chicago). Arrived around noon, took a shuttle to the hotel and then headed to the race expo.

a HUGE expo but only indulged on Gu.

Later on I took the monorail to take in the evening sights.

Unfortunately with the 3 hour time difference, I was too pooped to party.

  • Saturday – I took an awesome bus tour where I got to see and explore Red Rock Canyon. The scenery was spectacular.

Then in the evening I ran the RnR Vegas 5k with some blogger friends followed by a long walk to dinner.

not run on the strip but still a fun time.

16.4 miles for the day before a half marathon. Probably not an ideal rest day but so worth it.

  • Sunday – In the morning, Marcia and I went out to brunch and then neglected to eat for the rest of the day. That and the previous day’s miles may have impacted my race performance but the race itself was awesome. Running on the strip in Vegas was an experience that I’ll never forget.

Oh what a night!!

Next Week

  • Monday – rest, fly home
  • Tuesday rest, tennis
  • Wednesday – rest, drive to Buffalo
  • Thursday – rest, long drive home
  • Friday – rest, mah jongg
  • Saturday – 6 mile run
  • Sunday – rest, trip to NYC for college reunion lunch and Broadway show with tennis ladies

Running Update: 10.30.17-11.5.17

Last Week: Taper Time

  • Monday – The rain finally stopped but it was ridiculously windy all day. I met up with Alyssa for a short run after work.

The wind even calmed down.

Afterwards I met up with my BFF for an overdue mall walk (instead of volunteering with STEM).

  • Tuesday – Off to Rochester for work with a stop in Liverpool on the way.  And no matter how late I arrived, I was determined to get in a run in Rochester either along Lake Ontario or along the Erie Canal path. Due to impeding darkness, I decided on the canal hoping that it would be lit up.

Nope. No lights on the Erie Canal but luckily it wasn’t dark yet. But it was windy and 40 degrees. Brrrr

  • Wednesday – It was cold and pouring rain so I drove back to Liverpool. No running today. Sometimes, it’s ok to rest 🙂
  • Thursday – Another rainy day but the rain stopped by the time I was done with work. And it warmed up too. So I ran along Onondaga Lake, one of my favorite work places to run. It was great but NO lights so I guess this will be my last one until March. 😢

Almost 30 degrees warmer than Tuesday!

  • Friday – Another rainy day and a long drive drive home so I decided to skip the run.
  • Saturday – For the second Saturday in a row, the Wineglass ladies met up for a run. I couldn’t decide if I should run 12 or taper 8 for my half marathon. So I compromised and ran 10.  Two solo and then 10 easy miles with Jeri, a fun new running buddy. Afterward we went out to breakfast, of course. Yes, food gets me through my long runs.

Chilly at the start but warmed up to a perfect running day on the bike path

  • Sunday – Rest day Sunday. Watching the NYC Marathon (Shalane wow!) and other household chores ending with our anniversary mah jongg dinner.

Missing a few of the gang. 9 years and going strong.

21 miles done.

This Week: Race Week

  • Monday –  3 miles with AlyssaSTEM run (2 miles)
  • Tuesday rest,  tennis
  • Wednesday drive to Liverpool, 3 mile run??
  • Thursday restdrive home
  • Friday – flight to Las Vegas!!
  • Saturday -RnR Vegas 5k
  • Sunday -RnR Vegas Half Marathon

So this is getting real.  I can’t believe that I am leaving for Vegas this week.

I am packed (or over- packed).  I arrive around noon on Friday and booked a shuttle to the hotel (Tropicana).  I plan to hit the expo and hopefully find some friendly faces to connect with. Then on Sat. am, I have a bus trip to Red Rock Canyon.  I can’t wait to see it.  Afterward, my roomie Marcia arrives and we’ll get the fun started.

Anyone else going to be there??  Any recommendations of things to do while in Vegas??

Running Update: 10.23.17-10.29.17

Last Week:

  • Monday – Off to NYC for work.  Staying in Manhattan but working in Queens does complicate things at least on the running front. But today I was able to run. 3 days of rest does a body good because I felt like I could run forever.

Running to and along the Hudson River – pleasantly surprised about the number of runners and all the lights!! The hardest part was navigating the crowded sidewalks to get to the river path

  • Tuesday – It rained on and off all day. I worked so I didn’t care. Because of the weather, I hadn’t planned to run and went out to dinner with co-workers instead.  But of course, the rain stopped and I wish I had run.

My first Korean BBQ

  • Wednesday – After work, I quickly changed my clothes and headed toward the East River. Perfect in every way.

Can’t believe how many runners were here – great place to run. wish I had more time or my hotel were closer

  • Thursday – Last day in NYC. Had to run, right? So after work I hopped the subway to Central Park. Ran around the park and ended with some retail therapy.

already setting for the marathon in 2 weeks – lots of runners everywhere and as usual got a little lost but made it out safe

  • Friday – Work and then the train home. Too pooped to run anyway.
  • Saturday – Had 12 on the schedule   Didn’t want to run alone so met up with some of the Wineglass group early early. I wound up running a speedy 10 Miles with Alyssa and then joined everyone else for breakfast.

As they say running is better with a friend. Probably would have run 12 if I was alone but it would have been slower and not as enjoyable

I spent the rest of the day at Ellms Family Farm with Amanda and the kids.

Lots of fun including 1 1/2 hours in the corn maze

  • Sunday – just catching up on everything neglected all week including rest. Ended the day with dinner and drinks out with the hubby and two friends.

27 miles done.

This Week:

  • Monday –  3 miles with Alyssa and Jeri, Mall walk with bff
  • Tuesday – drive to Rochester, 4 miles
  • Wednesday rest, after work drive to Liverpool
  • Thursday 4 miles in Liverpool
  • Friday – 2  miles in Liverpool??, drive home
  • Saturday 8-12 Mile Run
  • Sunday – rest, mah jongg anniversary dinner

Last Week:

  • Monday – Drove to Liverpool for work. In the rain. Thought I wouldn’t get to run but the rain stopped. Boy was it cold and windy.  Wasn’t I just on our boat the previous day??

  • Tuesday – Our first hard frost. But I had to work and then drive to Buffalo. The weather was so nice after work that I had to squeeze in a quick run even though it meant arriving late at night.

20 degrees warmer than Monday and sunny

  • Wednesday – Another long work day in Buffalo but I was determined to run. And I did. Perfect weather and great scenery.

Actually it was 5 Miles including 83 steps for a view

Got in a few walks as well. Lots of interesting sites in the city. Gotta take advantage before the after work daylight ends.

  • Thursday – Another work day and then a long 5 hour drive home. Ran one time before getting in my car. This time around downtown Buffalo.

  • Friday – I thought I might get in a run after work. (Trying to front load my runs since I wouldn’t be running on the weekend and rain was predicted for everyday the following week.) But I had too much to do before my upcoming weekend away including meeting up with Julia who was visiting from Moscow.

First met Julia in 2002. And last saw her in 2009.

  • Saturday – Road trip with some tennis friends. Goal: hiking in Watkins Glen and girl time. We got lucky with perfect weather too.

No running but 6.5 miles of trails

Afterwards we ate dinner on the Seneca Lake.  And then sat by the bonfire at our hotel on the lake.

  • Sunday – Another perfect day. We took a long hike to a waterfall and afterwards ate lunch at a winery.  The trail to the waterfalls was ideal for running (sigh).

No long run today but 9 miles hiking

13 miles done.

This Week: NYC

  • Monday – off to NYC for work
  • Tuesday –  after work run in NYC?
  • Wednesday after work run in NYC?
  • Thursday after work run in NYC?
  • Friday – rest day, train home
  • Saturday – rest day
  • Sunday – 12 mile run

Last Week:

  • Monday – Columbus Day meant a day off from work.  The weather looked like a washout but I patiently waited and the rain stopped so I was able to get in a (humid) run.

  • Tuesday – Back to work and I was able to play tennis after work so I didn’t think I should run. But I had some extra time and there was rain in the forecast for the next day so I did.

At Colonie Town Park -ran in the opposite direction to last Saturday here

  • Wednesday – Today was my volunteer day with STEM. There were only a few runners and it was raining. Still glad I was able to meet and encourage them.

week 2, day 2 of Couch to 5k

  • Thursday – A long day at work but I was able to meet up with Alyssa for run which is always a good thing. She claims that I got her faster.  Now I hope it’s the other way around.

  • Friday – A needed rest day and an evening with my mah jong friends.
  • Saturday – Today I ran another one of my favorite fall races, the Great Pumpkin 10k. I saw lots of familiar faces, some running the 5k and some the 10k. I love the course and festive atmosphere. If only, I could figure out how to run a 10k and not a fast 5k followed by a slow 5k. (You can read my review here.)

58:02 (6th in my AG)

After the race, I needed to add more miles since I had another half in 4 weeks. I decided to stay in the park and run some leisurely miles while avoiding the HS cross-country racers.

Ended the day with dinner out with the hubby and friends.

  • Sunday – Woke up with a nasty cold which might have explained my lack of energy during the 10k the day before. But it was our last boating day of the season and my stepson’s birthday.  So we went out on the boat one last time. Relaxing in the sun actually was what the doctor ordered as was the birthday cake at my stepson’s party that we went to after.

24 miles done.

This Week: Slow week of running

  • Monday – off to Liverpool for work, 4 miles??
  • Tuesday – rest day, after work drive to Buffalo
  • Wednesday – 4 miles in Buffalo after work??
  • Thursday rest day, long drive home from Buffalo
  • Friday – 4 miles after workmah jongg
  • Saturday & Sunday – road trip with friends to hike and sightsee in Watkins Glen, NY

Last Week: Recovery & Work = #HoLottaRest

  • Monday – First day volunteering with the STEM runners.  It’s a Couch to 5k so we were only running for a minute. So after work I went to get my nails done (long over due!!) and then back to run with the STEM ladies.  I guess I meant to rest because none of the runners could come.
  • Tuesday – Long drive to Buffalo for work. I was worried that I would not get in a run before dark. But I rushed and got it done.

Warm temps returned

  • Wednesday -Long day of work and a long drive home from Buffalo. I thought I might squeeze in a run before I left but it was raining 😦
  • Thursday – Had a hair appointment after work so the only time I could run was before work. Well after standing for 8 hours and driving for 5, I felt like I had been hit by a mac truck when I got up so I skipped my run?? No I went to work late and drove to a nearby trail.  Just what the doctor ordered. I felt so much better after the run (even if it was very humid out.)

Nearby park where I haven’t run in years

  • Friday – Another needed rest day and an evening with my mah Jong friends.
  • Saturday – Today I ran one of my favorite fall races, the Apple Run 5k. Another almost PR and a fun time.

27:29 and first in my age group

After the race, I needed to add more miles since next week’s weather looked rainy and I had another half in 5 weeks. So I drove to Colonie Town Park to meet Judy and run 6 more miles.

Colonie Town Park is near Judy’s favorite ice cream spot.

  • Sunday – Back up to the lake.  Could be our last boating day of the season?? Glad that the weather cooperated. A rainy morning but record temps in the afternoon.

16 miles done.

This Week: Back to Normal

  • Monday – DAY OFF – 4 miles??
  • Tuesday – rest day, tennis
  • Wednesday – 3 miles, STEM group
  • Thursday – 4 miles with Alyssa
  • Friday – rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday – 10K race + 4 more miles
  • Sunday – boating???

Running Update: 9.25.17-10.1.17

Last Week: Race Week

  • Monday – Still summer temps but since I am Not participating in the Turkey Trot training group,  I made plans with a former participant to meet for a run.

93 degrees!!

  • Tuesday – Tennis for the first time in a long time because I was working locally and not out of town. It was fun re-connecting with my Tuesday tennis buddies for tennis and dinner out.

This happened too. I was interviewed about flu shots during Monday’s run. Notice that I lost one of my earrings.

  • Wednesday – Today Alyssa and I met for the last time before our Sunday race and the last of our hot summer weather. We sweated and planned on an extra half mile for our ice cream post run treat.

Nope. Ice cream place closed for the season. No extra 1/2 mile!

  • Thursday – I couldn’t decide if I wanted 2 or 3 days rest. Since I had time before my dinner out with tennis friends, I thought of about running but went to the library instead.

Early carb loading

  • Friday – I rode to Corning, NY (our race-cation location) with Judy and Jan. It was a long drive so we stopped to take a walk in Glimmerglass Lake State Park and then in Cooperstown for lunch.

After we checked into our hotel in Painted Post, we had dinner and then I relaxed in the hotel for the rest of the evening.

  • Saturday – Rest day and a day to carb load. After the expo and lunch, Alyssa and I went to the Glass Museum and then walked around town. Then in the evening we went the race sponsored dinner where we stuffed ourselves with pasta and listened to the inspiring speaker – Dave McGillivray.

  • Sunday – Today I ran my 28th half marathon – the Wineglass Half Marathon.  I loved the course and enjoyed sharing the experience with new and old running friends.

Not a PR but pretty damn close and survived the frigid temps (93 degrees to 35 in one week That’s crazy!!).

After the race, I rode home with Christina, Kerri and Judy where we chatted about running and a possible repeat experience next fall.

20.1 miles done.

This Week: Recovery  & Work = #HoLottaRest

Last Week: Taper Time

  • Monday – Recovering from yesterday’s half marathon.  Actually, everything felt great but better safe than sorry.
  • Tuesday – Another work travel day. This week, I was back in Rochester, NY.  It’s a long drive but there are two choices of places to run – along Lake Ontario or along the Erie Canal. I was ready to run at 2 pm but my co-worker asked me to help him set up and we couldn’t start until 4:30. Grrrrrr! So I chose Lake Ontario and found some cool trails across the street. But I had to cut it short to get back to check into my hotel.

  • Wednesday -I got in one more run along the canal before the drive home.

Along the Erie Canal starting at Bushnell’s Basin

  • Thursday – Today I reunited with Alyssa for a run. We decided to run on the Corning Bike Path.

Summer temps continue

  • Friday – Rest day and evening out with the mah jongg ladies.
  • Saturday – Today I ran the Helper’s Fund 10k in Chestertown, NY. It was warm but not as humid as last weekend. I ran the whole race with another runner who forced me to take it slow. It was a nice small race and I had a course PR and even won my age group.

58:17. A happy surprise.

After the race, I took two hikes on nearby mountains and visited a friend who lived nearby.

  • Sunday – Boating Sunday.  And a beautiful day it was and the hottest day of the summer so far and it’s fall LOL. I spent most of the day floating on the water.

18.2 miles done.

This Week: Race Week

  • Monday – 3-4 mile run with Laurie
  • Tuesday –  rest day, tennis
  • Wednesday 4 mile run with Alyssa

  • Friday – day off (early morning 3 mile run if not done the day before) and drive to Corning, NY
