Weekly Run Down for 11.20.22-11.27.22: Turkey and Trotting

Two races in One Week!

Well, not odd for me…

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Upstate Classic Half Marathon. Snow.Ice.Hills.FrigidTemps.InsaneWinds.

What else can I say?

It was the first race where I really wanted to DNF…

But I propelled myself forward into the wind and crossed the finish line (and then waited for 50 minutes in the cold without a coat for my friend!!

my friend & I each won our age group (sine we were the only crazy ones to do this race)

14 years ago today, we formed a group to play mah jongg every Friday night.  We still play weekly but we’ve become more than mah jongg players but great friends. Tonight we celebrated.

  • Monday – Still cold and windy but warmer (30s). I took it slow but ventured out for a short easy recovery run at lunch.

drove to the rail trail hoping that it would be less windy… nope!

Met my BFF for a walk after work (but we did it inside at the mall.)

  • Tuesday – I had planned to run but work took up my whole day and I had a hair appt after work. All I could manage was another short easy run.  This time in the neighborhood/waterline.

so nice to run without wind… warmer temps too (40s)

  • Wednesday –  .Another rest day only because I don’t like to run the day before a race.

#flatme

  • Thursday – Troy Turkey Trot. I only ran the 10k.

I said “only” because for many years, I ran both the 10k and 5k.  I choose the 10k because it’s earlier and much less crowded (and my friends were not running the 5k.)

It was not one of my better turkey trots but the weather was perfect and I came in 3rd in my age group.

upset stomach and tired legs probably held me back but still was glad I did it.

For Thanksgiving dinner, we went to my SIL’s and ate back all the calories (and more) that I burned during the race.

And I need to thank my fellow bloggers who inspire me everyday…

  • Friday – One more rest day because I don’t run the day before a long run. No FOMO since it was a rainy/cloudy day.

But glad to get out of the house for an evening mah jongg game.

  • SaturdayLong run!! I met up with my friends because I had another 15k on the schedule so I needed to run 8 miles. Again, I was lucky to have company during the run and after at brunch.

  • Sunday – Weather dependent…

if it doesn’t rain, a hike and if it does some knitting and Netflix.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday –  DAY OFF – run, hike
  • Tuesday – rest day
  • Wednesday – run, book talk (Melissa Gilbert)
  • Thursday – run
  • Friday – rest day, train to NYC, bib pick-up, holiday sights
  • Saturday Ted Corbitt 15K Race (in NYC)
  • Sunday –  rest day, hiking?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Upstate Classic Half Marathon Recap
  • Friday – Ultimate Coffee Date

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any races run or planned? Did you turkey trot?  How was your Thanksgiving? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 11.13.22-11.20.22: Race Week!

Bookend Races.

15k last Sunday and half marathon today!!

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Stockade-athon 15K Race.

I really enjoy running local races (even if they are hard!!)  This was no exception.

It was not as cold as I expected and though it was far from my best finish time, it was faster than last year.  And seeing so many runners that I knew was icing on the cake.

I carpooled with Sherry & Stan and we skipped the post-race refreshment in favor of brunch at a diner

  • Monday – My scheduled day off.

I was happy that my friend was available to accompany me on a hike or two. We decided not to drive far (since I had to be home early for a vet appt.)

First stop was a wet walk around Ooms Conservation Area.

Our second was at Wilson M. Powell Wildlife Sanctuary to Dorsons Rock.

We ended the day with a delicious lunch.

Looking ahead to my work schedule and potential snow, I decided I’d better get a run done. It was dark so I headed to UAlbany.

  • Tuesday – Another frosty morning so I postponed my run until lunch.

it warmed up to the high 30s and I was fine… most of the leaves are in piles at the curb except for those red maples.

  • Wednesday –  Woke up to snow on the ground which changed to rain…

Back to in-person teaching so no time to run except after work (and bring clothes to change into).  I was pooped so decided to skip the run (and I had already run 3 days in a row.)

  • Thursday – Stopped at Starbucks on my way to work… who knew it was Red Cup Day!!

Back to UAlbany for my after work run since it is the only route with lights near me.

  • Friday – Rest Day! No need to pack the running clothes!! Woo Hoo!

first Peppermint mocha of the season (in my Red Cup)

Stopped off on my way home to pick up my bib for Sunday’s race.

And played mah jongg in the evening.

  • Saturday – Another Rest Day and a walk with my running friends followed by brunch.

chose the Corning bike path but oops, the Girls on the Ru 5k was there too

And then picked up my bib for my Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.

  • Sunday – Upstate Classic Half Marathon!!

a cold windy day so my first race in tights…

This will be the 3rd time that I’ve run this hilly half marathon (and the 4th time on this course). It will be my last half of 2022 and most likely my hardest.

Being local, I know it will be fun and worth the struggle.

heading toward the finish line in 2021

14 years ago today, we formed a group to play mah jongg every Friday night. Tonight we are going out to dinner to celebrate.

13 year anniversary dinner

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any races run or planned? Has the weather been winter-like where you live

Weekly Run Down for 11.6.22-11.13.22: It’s Dark Out!!

Yes, with the clocks turned back, where can I run?

I don’t like to run in the dark.

Now the mornings are lighter but once it gets cold….

At least today I have a 15k race to look forward to.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Now that boating season is over, I try to hike every Sunday.

Macch & I were enjoying our extra hour this am.

I decided to head south because I thought the foliage would be prettier. The weather seemed perfect but then it started to rain as I drove and it rained harder and harder.

As soon as I arrived at Falling Waters Preserve, the rain seemed to let up. Yay!

But not for long. I did one trail and then retuned back to my car and found a rain poncho in my trunk (of course, all runners have one, right?)

at least it was warm out

It helped sort of until the wind picked up. It felt like walking in a Nor’easter. I bailed on the 3rd trail and headed to my next destination.

It was still raining but I didn’t drive an hour not to hike and this one (Saugerties Light House Preserve) was a shorter trail.

too wet to take more pics and the views of the Hudson R. were a blur.

Of course as soon as I was finished hiking, the rain stopped.  So I drove into town and walked around.

stopped in a knitting shop and bought wool to make this cowl (in different colors) and a dessert shop for coffee and a pastry.

  • Monday – #nvermisssamonday and since it was lighter in the morning, I decided to give a before work run a whirl. I woke up to rain but happily, it stopped but it was still very warm for this time of year.

I was melting… should have worn a tank and skirt… Is it summer or fall? Even the flowers are confused.

After work, I went for a walk at on a trail at a nearby park hoping to beat darkness.

sunset and then moonrise…

  • Tuesday – I thought about a before work run but the cold temps (40s) deterred me so it was a lunch run instead

much chillier and windier than the day before.. luckily the sun was out

and then I met my BFF for a walk after work. (I voted last week.)

did your Christmas cactus bloom for Halloween?

  • Wednesday –  Rest day and it was the day of my monthly dinner with my tennis friends.

even though we don’t play tennis together anymore, it is always fun to get together and chat

  • Thursday – Frost when I woke up… not ready for this!  Postponed my run until lunchtime. And it warmed up  (50s) and the sun came out.

sorry, the trees are bare.. no more pretty foliage pics

  • Friday – Rest Day!!

Facebook reminded that on this day two years I hiked at Olana. I figured it was a sign to go back. Although the trees were bare and the clouds threatened rain, it was an enjoyable way to spend the Holiday and a day off from work.

And played mah jongg in the evening (much more relaxing not having to do a long run the next morning.)

  • Saturday – Rest Day and just a walk with my running friends followed by brunch

and then packet pickup for Sunday’s race.

Some errands and household chores and of course, carb loading…

flatme… wearing a skirt hoping I won’t freeze my butt off

  • Sunday – Stockade-athon 15k Race!!

Heading to the finish line in 2021

I’ve done this race many times and it’s always fun because I will know many runners out there.  But actually I signed up because I have a half marathon next Sunday and the distance is perfect for a taper run.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday –  DAY OFF, hike, vet appt.
  • Tuesday – AM run, dinner out
  • Wednesday – PM run
  • Thursday – PM run
  • Friday – rest day, packet pick-up, mah jongg
  • Saturday – rest day, walk
  • Sunday –  Upstate Classic Half Marathon

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any races run or planned? Has the weather been fall-like where you live

Weekly Run Down for 10.30.22-11.6.22: Heading into November. Already?

How is it November?

Halloween has come and gone and now we’re looking forward to Thanksgiving…

or in my case, a 15k, a half marathon and then a 10k. lol

and:

I’m not good with streaks or challenges so let’s see how far I get…

Last Week:

  • Sunday – This was my third time volunteering at a race this year.

This time, it was for a trail race (6m or 13.1) at Thacher State Park (with a Halloween theme.)

And I had a blast… no FOMO either.

I had to report at 7am for setup & packet pick up and then I gave out finisher medals until  12:30PM.

I got to see the sun rise and the amazing costumes (I was a witch) … not sure had people ran in them… and the weather was perfect!!

After lunch (hot dogs, hamburger and some sweets), I took advantage of the weather and did some more leaf peeping.

great views from this park

  • Monday – Remember I now have every other Monday off… so I started the day with a run

dressing for the holiday…

Then I went for a drive to where I could climb a fire tower but first I found some new nearby trails.

then hiked to the fire tower

and on the way home, I stopped for a short hike to see a waterfall.

My last stop was to vote and then I spent the evening giving out candy.  All of a sudden, we have lots of little kids in a our neighborhood.

  • Tuesday – I actually had to leave my house for work today… to observe an in-person class. It was rainy anyway (but I had to wear normal clothes, shoes and make-up. lol).

After I dropped my car off (for repair?), I borrowed my hubby’s car and met friends for a walk on the rail trail.

we actually veered off the trail to walk on the water line admiring all the remaining colorful leaves

  • Wednesday –  Back working from home. With the temps warming up, I went for a run on the rail trail at lunch.

looked like fall but felt like summer

When my after work walking partner cancelled, I drove to Hollyhock Nature Sanctuary for a short walk on a pretty creek trail.

the trees were mostly bare and the creek shallow but I beat sunset so all was good

  • Thursday – Another Indian Summer day… I was thinking of a run at lunch but FB alerted me that the Cookie Truck was in town tonight (they park within walking distance of the end of the rail trail):

So of course, I had to run there after work and then bought a few ice cream sandwiches. (I only ate half of one and froze the rest.)

skirt weather in November!! Woo Hoo!

  • Friday – Rest Day!! I stopped by my office and so I caved and got my first Holiday cup!!

After work, I headed out for my last after work walk in daylight (at Normanskill Farms).

The alpacas were so cool!

  • SaturdayLong Run.  12 miles on my training plan so I was grateful to have some company.

This week, we headed to Zim Smith bike path. I got there early to run a few miles solo and then ran the rest with Deb and Sherry. Everyone else had walking on their minds. But we all gathered after for brunch.

NYC on my mind with the shirt and compression sleeves

It was so nice to able eat outdoors… in November!!

  • Sunday – Big Boo on turning the clocks back!! Not looking forward to my after work runs from now until March…

Giving everyone who’s running the NYC Marathon a virtual High Five!!

Most likely, I’ll be hitting the trails today.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Wednesday – rest day, tennis dinner out
  • Thursday – run
  • Friday – rest day, mah jongg

Weekly Run Down for 10.23.22-10.30.22: A Quiet Week

No travel.  No work trips. No races.

Sound boring?

Last Week:

  • Sunday – The leaves are falling quickly so I decided to do some leave peeping before they were all gone.

I also decided to stay local.  But there was a brand new trail nearby so off I drove.

it was very pretty and it connects to another bunch of trails.

I could have continued from there to additional trails but I decided to drive to the main parking lot.

no beaver sighting but it’s one of my favorite short trails there.

I moved my car to one more parking lot and had time for one more short trail

the Vlomankill was pretty shallow but I still got to enjoy the sound of running water

  • Monday – #nevermissamonday but I had to figure out when the weather would be better to run. It was raining in the morning but I had hoped it would either be dry during lunch or after work.

I got dressed to run at lunch and as soon as I got out there, it started to pour. Being mostly a fair weather runner, I decided to wait until after work.

So I drove to run at UAlbany since I was meeting my BFF for a long walk near there after.

the rain had mostly stopped… just a drizzle and still some pretty foliage to admire

  • Tuesday – Always checking the weather. I had thought of having a rest day but it looked like rain was predicted for Wednesday so I decided to run after work today.

I didn’t realize until I got to the rail trail that it must have rained recently…

70 degrees, 90% humidity and lots of wet leaves

  • Wednesday –  Finally taking a rest day. It was tempting to participate in a SOAR group run but I went for a walk (at Pine Hollow Arboretum) and did some errands instead.

75 degrees in October? I bet these leaves were confused (but beautiful even at dusk)

  • Thursday – Back out for a run today. Not as warm as the day before but sunny. I waited until after work and drove to the Albany end of the rail trail.

What a difference a day made… I was actually chilly!!

  • Friday – Rest Day!!

Not so restful as I had to work and clean the house so I could host mah jongg.

  • SaturdayLong Run!! Finally able to meet my running friends.  No race today!!

I got there early and ran 2 miles with Barbara and then met Sherry & Stan for 9 more.  Afterward, we went out to brunch with the others who were either walking or running fewer miles. (<3 my group!)

It was chilly and foggy when we started but it warmed up nicely

  • Sunday – Volunteering at a local trail race. Costumes, food, colorful foliage and lots of familiar faces… Should be loads of fun.

Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon & Squirrelly Six Mile

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday –  DAY OFF – run, hike?

Weekly Run Down for 10.16.22-10.23.22: Travelling Week

Yup, on the road again.

The highlight of my week was going to NYC!

My least favorite part of the week was a work trip to Rochester, NY.

Oh, I also managed to squeeze in a 5k race on Saturday.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – I took the train down to NYC where I spent a lovely day.

I had lunch with some college friends and then we visited the Morgan Library.

We were all French majors so it was appropriate to see Le Petit Prince exhibit and most of us had also read The Personal Librarian.

Afterward I went to the top of Summit One for views of the city at sunset.

just breath taking

I ended the day in Bryant Park with Cari.

notice our healthy dinner

  • Monday – Rain was in the forecast but Cari and I crossed our fingers that we could get a dry run done in Central Park before she had to go to work.

and we did!!

It started to sprinkle but not enough to deter me from some more leave peeping miles in the park.

The sun peaked out by the time to head to my museum visits.

First a quick one to Cooper Hewitt (since it was on the way and free.)

Then on to the Jewish Museum (which surprisingly was free too). There was a special exhibit on the 60’s (and I’m old enough to remember them) among other things.

I took the subway back to my  hotel to check out.

My final stop was to another friend’s apartment before heading home.

  • Tuesday – Back to work. No time to run until after work.

I didn’t pay attention to the temps and I was quite chilly

  • Wednesday –  This afternoon I had to drive to Rochester for work (3 1/2 hours.) After checking into my hotel, I wanted to run on the Erie Canal trail before dark. I was staying a different hotel than I usually do so I asked the desk clerk where to go. She pointed out the trail and told me to park in the hospital parking lot.

Oh, it was COLD and raining so I think she thought I was nuts.

just drizzling most of the time but then it started to pour and I took cover in a nearby REI store (where I should have parked. lol)

I had to return to my hotel to change out of my wet clothes before heading out to dinner .

  • Thursday – On my way home from Rochester, I decided to squeeze on one more run. This time I headed to where I used to park (Schoen Place) to run on the Erie Canal..

It was dry but overcast and windy.

cold… but still so pretty

One last stop before leaving Rochester:

never too cold for Abbotts!!

Once home, I had to pick up my race packet and stop at Trader Joes (for flowers and everything pumpkin lol)

  • Friday – Rest Day!! No mah jongg due to COVID exposures but time to unpack, carb load and get together a #flatme.

  • SaturdaySummer Smith Memorial 5k. I was pooped from all the travel this week and wasn’t feeling the run. But as soon as I got there my spirits lifted.

There were some speeches, many raffle items, memorial balloon launch and tears by many (who knew Summer or anyone who died due to drug/alcohol addiction.)

perfect weather (except for the wind) and I managed to win my age group but didn’t win any of the raffle items

I never regret a race…but my legs were not happy adding more miles after.

it warmed up nicely and the wind died down

Finally got to celebrate my stepson’s birthday with a dinner out.

  • Sunday – I need to do some leaf peeping before it was past peak. But I need to get out early before the crowds hit.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday –  run
  • Tuesday – rest day, walk
  • Wednesday – run
  • Thursday – run
  • Friday – rest day, vet visit, mah jongg chez moi
  • Saturday Long Run
  • Sunday –   hiking?

Weekly Run Down for 10.9.22-10.16.22: Back to Shorter Distances

I have break from running half marathons.  My next one is not until Nov 20 with a 15k the week before.

So why not run a 5k race two weekends in a row?

The first one was this past Saturday.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Our boat is away for the season so I took advantage of the free day to volunteer at our local half/marathon.

I had so much fun!!!

hanging with some other volunteers

My assignment was to give out water at the finish line.

I got to see all the half marathoners finish.

I got to see the speedy marathoner including the winners (with course records.)

The best part was seeing a friend PR and BQ, I got to give him his medal and a big teary hug.

and the weather was PR perfect

  • Monday – A Holiday so a Day Off!

I started the day with a run at Vischer Ferry Preserve.

followed it with a walk on many of the trails. 9 miles for the day and the country store was closed so no post-run/hike snack 😦

Ended it with a wake (for my running friend’s FIL.)

  • Tuesday – Rest Day since I was busy at work and I had a hair appt after work.
  • Wednesday – Squeezed in a run at lunch

Looks like Fall, feels like Summer!!

and then after work, I met my tennis friends for a dinner out.

even though I no longer play tennis, it’s nice to keep connected with these ladies at our monthly dinners.

  • Thursday –  I had planned to go to the office and then after work drive to Six Mile Waterworks and run the loop.

With thunderstorms predicted, I decided to squeeze in my run at lunch and then go to the office.

windy and humid but NO RAIN!!

I did make the right decision as it started to rain when I got out of work.

  • Friday – Rest Day #2.  Evening mah jongg and getting my #flatme organized.

this is the race shirt from this race 8 years ago!

  • SaturdayGreat Pumpkin Challenge 5k

I’ve run the 10k several times but this was the first time for the 5k which was held in Saratoga State Park. We had perfect weather and it was so much fun hanging out with friends.

my legs felt like lead but still managed 2nd in my age group.

It was too nice a day to go home so I wandered around the park… some running… some walking… some driving

geysers, springs, waterfalls, pumpkins and more…

  • Sunday – Early morning train to NYC to meet my college buddies for lunch.

Park Ave Tavern - Review of Park Avenue Tavern, New York City, NY - Tripadvisor

We plan to spend the afternoon in the Morgan Library looking at the Belle and Little Prince exhibits.

I had booked a hotel room for an overnight stay so I will be free to explore the city.

Weekly Run Down for 10.2.22-10.9.22: Recovery Week

Another racecation has come and gone. This one was to run the Maine Half Marathon in Portland, ME.. As in all my other racecations, the highlight of the weekend was not the race course or the medals or finish times. It was all about the friendships forged. So thanks to my nine “Sole Sisters” for the memories and laughs.

After Sunday’s race, it was great to relax. Of course there were still some easy runs and other activities….

And the week ended with volunteering at a big local race.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Maine Half Marathon.

I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy but the course was beautiful and everyone who ran finished.

It was a very long day. Our marathoner started at 6 am, the half marathoners and relay runner #1 started at 7:45.  We also had some cheerleaders who endured a very windy and cold wait until everyone was done… around 1:30pm??

After some snacks and massages, we headed back to our house for showers and a big celebratory dinner out in Old Orchard Beach.

  • Monday – Some of us got up bright and early to watch the sunrise on the beach (although our rooms had a great view so it wasn’t necessary to get out of bed.)

Then we embarked on a road trip back to Portland to view three lighthouses and have lunch.

when in Maine, eat a lobster roll (or two), right?

When we got home, some of us decided to venture out to explore Old Orchard Beach…

We had brought so much food with us that we decided to stay in for dinner…

hanging out by the fire was so much fun (there may have been some Fireball involved)…

  • Tuesday – Last day of vacation….

Of course, it started with viewing the sunrise…

it was spectacular…

While everyone was packing up, I snuck out for a run in town.

no time for a beach jumping photo so I insisted on a group photo before we left (you may notice that we lost one person… she had to leave due to a death in family but we are already planning next year’s race-cation. Stay tuned.

And then we left in separate cars.  My car made a pit stop in Northampton, MA for lunch and to visit a knitting store.

  • Wednesday –  Back to reality and work…

I was not disappointed to see rain.

But after a quick trip to the office, it had stopped so I changed my clothes and went for an easy run.

my legs felt a lot more tired than the previous day…

  • Thursday – One more after work run. This time back at the end of the rail trail.

It felt like summer…crazy weather!

  • Friday – Rest Day!!
  • SaturdayLong Run Saturday.  Not too long a run – only 8 miles on the Nisky bike path with friends.

Again it felt cold at first but actually perfect as was brunch.

  • Sunday – Boating season has ended.  So I signed up to volunteer at our local Marathon/Half Marathon race.

so fun handing out water to the half marathoners and speedy marathoners…even got to see my friend BQ!!!

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday –  HOLIDAY – DAY OFF – run, hike, wake (friend’s FIL)
  • Tuesday – rest day, hair appt
  • Wednesday – run, dinner out with tennis friends
  • Thursday – run, trails
  • Friday – rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Great Pumpkin Challenge 5k (+ more miles in the park)
  • Sunday –   hiking

Weekly Run Down for 9.25.22-10.2.22: Race-cation to Maine

We started planning this weekend a year ago. I can’t believe it’s here already!!

Another get-away with 9 of my running friends. (It’s our 6th trip together.)  I think we even have more fun each time.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Boating Sunday was canceled again… Chilly and rain predicted.

For the 3rd week in a row I drove to Vischer Ferry Preserve.  I ran on a different rail (actually a towpath) than during my previous visits.  The weather was perfect and it didn’t rain. In fact, I was overdressed (amnesia on how to dress with it’s in the 50’s).

some interesting sights and Judy did run by me but she didn’t stop to chat

I ended my run again at the Country Store… with a delicious maple latte and pumpkin scone (sorry no pic of my food).

In the evening, I met one of our running friends who had moved away (but was visiting) for dinner.  It was great to catch up.

  • Monday – #nevermissamonday. I don’t usually like to run 3 days in a row but the weather was lovely so I snuck out at lunch.

fall decorations everywhere but it still felt like summer

  • Tuesday – A before work run today… it’s been a while. But I had some extra time in the morning.

so it was in the 40s and I thought I’d be chilly. Nope those arm sleeves came right off. I’ll figure out how to dress by winter

  • Wednesday – I had scheduled a Rest Day after running several days in a row. But one of my running friends (who was running the marathon) asked me to run with her. (That’s what friends are for…). So I met her for a few on the rail trail after work (besides the 5k race they all were easy runs.)

Yes we twinned, saw a rainbow and I found a very appropriate painted rock.

Afterward, as planned, I did meet my BFF after work for a long walk.

  • Thursday – I had planned to squeeze my last run in during lunch. But our running group was busy getting ready for the weekend so we cancelled our after work trail walk.

Instead I was able to drive to do a short run to test out these new babies.

Topo Specters.. will I wear them on race day?

ran around a new neighborhood (that was part of the 5k last Sat.)

My friends from Florida were in town escaping the storm, so I was able to visit with them too.

  • Friday – Another rest day!! To pack… It’s so hard to know what to wear in the early Fall… But the only important thing was my race outfit:

tank, skirt, cap and arm warmers and compression calf sleeves (for warmth)

  • Saturday – In several cars,10 of us all headed to Maine. We stopped for lunch in Hampton, NH, continued on to our AirBnB in Old Orchard Beach, ME then visited the expo in Portland, ME, checked out the race logistics, carb loaded and finally returned home to get ready for the big race the next morning. • Sunday – Maine Half Marathon. I ran the half marathon with two of my friends (and Deborah). One of my friends ran the full marathon and four of my friends ran the marathon relay.  Two just spectated. So it was quite a full day for everyone.

Weekly Run Down for 9.18.22-9:25.22: Back to the Weekly Race

My racing break is over.

This weekend I ran a 5k and next weekend, I’ll be running the Maine Half Marathon.

Last Week:

  • Sunday – Boating Sunday was cancelled.

The hubby had a tennis match and the weather looked iffy. So instead I decided to go for a hike.

Since I had time, I drove to the Vischer Ferry Preserve again.  I parked in the same spot as last Sunday but instead I walked in the opposite direction. A buggier, narrower path with alga covered water on both sides.  But it was flat with lots of mushroom and bird sightings.  I may even come back and run on another longer wider path next time (the Towpath instead of the trail.)

After 2 hours of walking, I drove to the Vischer Ferry General Store and this time, I had ice cream and perused the craft fair.

I stopped at Fleet Feet on the way home to buy more Gu and I tried on some new Topos (didn’t buy but was tempted.)

  • Monday – #nevermissamonday and my day off from work.  I had planned to hike with a friend but the forecast was for rain.

So instead we met another friend for an early morning run and then went out for brunch.

The restaurant was quite a long drive but it was worth it for the blueberry pancakes.

On our way home, we stopped at a park to walk off those pancakes.

there was a brief shower, otherwise we stayed dry until we got home.

The park was next to a covered bridge and a very old cemetery/museum.  It was called Lily Park and we plan to go back next July when the lilies are i bloom.

  • Tuesday – I thought I might take a rest day but my after work walk got cancelled so I went out for a run instead.

the weather was perfect, even a breeze. I ran the last 1.5 miles of the 5k that I’m racing next.

  • Wednesday – I decided to sleep in instead of running before work.

embracing fall for lunch (also had a pumpkin bagel earlier)

After work, I went to a wake for one of the running friend’s father (It was so nice that the whole group showed up to support her) and then I met my tennis friends to go out to dinner. Although I don’t play tennis anymore, we all try to keep in touch with a monthly meet-up. As always, it was a fun evening.

  • Thursday –  An early morning run was planned but the weather didn’t get the memo. It was raining. So I waited until lunch to get in my run. Due to a time crunch, I had to run in my neighborhood.

happy to report that the rain had stopped but boy was it humid…

Normally on Thursday, I meet my running friends for a hike.  Due to scheduling conflicts, we postponed it until next week.

It worked out perfectly because now I was able to meet my walking friends for our weekly walk (the one that got canceled on Tuesday.)

  • Friday – Another rest day!! A busy work day ending with my mah jongg ladies.

#flatme. it may be fall but I’m not giving up on the tank yet! (I’ll add my DIY arm sleeves)

  • SaturdayBarn to Bridge Fall Fest 5k. A new race on the rail trail where I do most of my runs.

The weather was perfect. It was a fun race and I did better than expected.

always great to see old friends

I had parked my car 1.5 miles from the race start and since it was point-to-point, I had planned to run 4 miles back to my car in order to in my long run.

But I hung out a long time at the festival and since it was getting late, I decided to take the shuttle back to the start and then walk to my car.

Then I had to rush home and change because we were having a birthday party for my MIL who is turning 97!!

Lake time is ending soon.  Hope the weather cooperates this week and we can get out on the boat.

If not, I plan to get in some miles running and/or hiking.
