Weekly Run Down for 4.23.23-4.30.23: Fitting It In

It was one of those weeks where I had something scheduled for every night of the week!

That happens when you are traveling for work for weeks and now you are home!!

And then you have an upcoming vacation planned for next week…

Last Week:

  • Sunday – My hike last Monday was cancelled due to rain as was today’s. (April showers bring May flowers, right?)

But I had plenty to keep me busy… unpacking, laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning (that’s what happens when you are away the previous week…)

I started this rainy day with a trip to the gym.

Then my hubby and I got our 6th COVID shot.

very excited for the vaccine and to continue to be protected from COVID (for myself and others I am in contact with…)

Still raining so I got my steps in with a walk around the mall.

  • Monday – Back working from home so I could hit the gym first thing. (BTW: no reaction from the vaccine at all.)

weather whiplash… it felt like winter out…

In the evening, I again mentored the beginner running group.

week 6 out of 12… most runners including myself struggled to run for 5 or 8 minutes. I encouraged them to walk if needed.

  • Tuesday – Another morning at the gym (Trying to make up for last week and next when I’m on vacation.)

But no running today since I had a scheduled dinner date with my stepson (the unmarried one.)

Unfortunately my stepson had to work late so that left me free to walk and also prepare food for the party the next day.

I decided to return to the Pine Hollow Arboretum to see how things were blooming.

pretty sparse.. so many trees destroyed this winter.

Our local Tulip Fest is in a few weeks and I wondered if the tulips were starting to bloom so I headed to Washington Park.

most were not ready but I found enough to photograph to make me happy… (more pics on FB)

  • Wednesday – I was forced to skip the gym since I had an early morning work ZOOM (with a camera on … I could not be there in my workout clothes. LOL)

But I took the afternoon off from work so I could run and then meet up with some tennis friends.

I was happy that my running friend Sherry was able to run with me at UAlbany (You know how I hate to run alone.)

looks like the lilacs will be in bloom soon

Afterward, my friends and I finally got together to celebrate our 2002 trip the USTA Tennis Nationals in Palm Springs.

It was so much fun to catch up and reminisce.

  • Thursday – Back at the gym before work… and I squeezed my run in at lunch time.

it seemed chilly at first but not as soon as the sun came out

After work, my friends and I had tickets to go see Fiddler on the Roof (and of course, we went out for dinner beforehand.)

I’ve seen this show several times but still enjoyed it a lot

  • Friday – Morning off from work.. that meant I could go to the gym later.

It was supposed to be a rest day from running. Why is the weather so nice on rest days?… boy do I wish I had switched my long run to today!!

Since I went to gym earlier than planned, I had enough time to do some walks or hikes.

With rain in the forecast for every day next week, I returned to Washington Park.

can you tell I love tulips? (still more pics on FB.)

I continued my walk around the park…

Then I drove to another place I’ve wanted to visit… it’s in the middle of the worst part of the city (and a little creepy to hike solo there).

I spent too much time in Washington Park to complete the whole trail so I may go back…

  • Saturday – Long Run Day!! Nope… RAIN!! Sorry. I am fair weather runner.

Instead I went to the gym and re-scheduled my hair appt.

  • Sunday – Re-Scheduled Long Run Day! My plan is to run 12 miles. Two of my long run buddies are away but I hope to have company of some other running friends and follow it with brunch.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday – GYM, hike, Tulip Fest, FTC run
  • Tuesday, GYM, run, chiro appt, walk w/BFF
  • Wednesday – GYM, run, pack!!
  • Thursday – rest day, 5:45 am flt to Florida
  • Friday – run, tennis, beach…
  • Saturdayrun, tennis, pool, show in Ft Myers
  • Sunday – run, beach

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Tips for Running During Vacation
  • Friday –  Ultimate Coffee Date

  1. It looks like your tulips are much more full than the ones my sister and I saw this week at the Botanic Gardens. It’s been mostly cold and rainy here this spring. And we’re getting more of that this week. Sigh.

    Enjoy your long run today!

  2. Wow, you really did have a busy week! I can’t believe you had no reaction to the Covid shot- they always knock me out for a day.
I hope you had good weather for your long run today and found people to run with! And yay- you’re heading down to the Sunshine State this week. I hope this vacation goes better than the last one (I’m sure it will!)

  3. Your pics of the tulips are so beautiful! There’s a huge tulip festival about 45 miles away (Pella, IA), and I seldom get a chance to get over to see all the beauty of the blooms. Sorry for all the rain! We’ve had so much wind (32mph this morning!), I think I’d gladly trade that for rain.

  4. You did fit it all in! And such beautiful locations with those flowers. I only have a few tulips in my yard, so I’m thankful my neighbors have a lot. They are my favorite! What a fun reunion with your tennis friends. The time really does fly by!
I forgot to mention in my blog that I got my 4th covid vaccine last week. I had a bit of wonkiness the next day but nothing major. I actually am part of a study and have to donate blood samples so they can check out my antibody levels change after the vaccine. (and I’m getting paid for it!)

  5. I love all of your spring flower photos! We don’t have that many tulips around here for some reason. I think someone told me before that they just don’t do well because of the heat and they often don’t re-bloom year after year like they’re supposed to so many people don’t bother with them. They’re beautiful, though.

  6. Looks like a good week and that’s great you’ve become such a frequent gym-goer. I hope your long run was good and the weather was ok.
I’m loving all your photos! All he flowers and beautiful scenery. One thing I really miss right now is to go for walks with the camera.

    • Hopefully you will be back out there soon

I do enjoy the flowers this time of year.

The rain stayed away for my long run. Happy about that.

  7. you made it work Darlene! awesome! loving all the flower pics. how are you liking the gym again? nice that you are off to Florida again this week!

my running is improving ever so slightly and that makes me happy. I have a race the 1st of July. Until then it’s build up and strengthen up!

  8. Hah! I don’t do anything on weeknights unless I’m traveling. You do more in a week than I do in a month.

Most of my meetings are “camera on” but sometimes I make an excuse and turn mine off. 😉
