FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for April ’22

It’s that time of the month…

Worry Less Run More 15 oz Ceramic Large Mug Worry Less Run More Mugs | CafePress

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

This is appropriate for my life lately…

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am still an Ambassador for the Freihofer Run for Women.

The race went virtual in 2020, moved to Sept in 2021 and this year, it has returned to its regular date – June 4, 2022.

As an ambassador, I am obviously promoting the race at various events.

If you would like to run this all women’s 5k, in-person or virtual, use the code AMBDC to pay only $22. You get a shirt and medal. In person runners also get cookies. Virtual runners will get a Freihofer’s product coupon mailed with their medal and shirt.

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that as usual, I signed up for the Freihofer Training Challenge. (FTC)

Yes, I have complained that as an “advanced” runner,  I don’t get much support.  However, it is perfect for NEW runners. But it is an opportunity to run with others.  I plan to go on Mondays when convenient and skip the Saturday sessions (since I usually do a long run or race that day.)

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that one of the perks of the FTC is a FREE 12 week membership to the YMCA.

The issue is WHEN to fit it in??? Work, runs…runs, work… family/friends stuff…work, runs

But they are open 5:30AM – 9:00 PM (on weekdays) and have lots of facilities:

    • Complete Exercise Center with Cybex weight circuit, free weights, Precor treadmills and ellipticals, bikes and  Stairmasters.
    • 2 pools, including a 6-lane lap pool and a warm water instructional pool.
    • Steam, sauna and whirlpool facilities
    • Basketball gymnasium
    • Pickle Ball courts
    • Free cycling, aerobic, mind/body and aqua aerobics classes
    • Indoor running/walking track.
    • NHL style ice rink that offers open skating, lessons and adult hockey leagues.

Wish me luck!!  My plan is to go THREE mornings each week (on rest days) until Jun 4. (So far, so good…)

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am back to volunteering with STEM. I had done this for many years in the past.  Then it didn’t work out with work and COVID.

back in 2017

I will try and go on Wednesdays.  It is a VERY rewarding experience. The goal race changes each year.  This year, it will be on June 5.

and in 2016

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I LOVED working from home… my life was so much less complicated and especially related to running.

We knew that at some point it would have to end.  We start local in-person training (I am a computer trainer) on May 25. (No word if we can still stay home for remote trainings….)

I was scheduled go to Queens (NYC) on April 7-8 and April 10-11. That’s Thurs-Fri and then Sun-Mon.  Real sucky!!!

Because I had plans to go there for a race on April 9-10.

Go home (2h45 min train ride) Friday night and return Saturday morning makes no sense.  Pay for a hotel of my pocket for Friday night makes less sense. The logical solution was to DNS the race and plan another NYC race weekend.

Update: My work travel got postponed. Woo Hoo!  NYC and Shape and Cherry Blossoms, here I come!

Some more for good measure:

6. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I delayed getting my second COVID booster until after my long run tomorrow. I didn’t get a reaction to the last three vaccines but just in case, I wanted to make sure I got my 12 miler done in preparation for my next half marathon. on April 16.

I’m sure you all aware how important it is for all of you who over 50 to get this ASAP

7.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that FOMO set in and on the last day possible, I entered the lottery for the NYC Marathon.

not sure if I was disappointed or relieved LOL

Happy Running! What’s new with you? Are you signed up for any 2022 races?  Are you having any spring-like weather yet? Plan to run the FRW 5k with me? Do you volunteer with any running groups? Do you go to a gym to work out?  Do you plan your vaccines around your running? Did you enter the NYS Marathon lottery? Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for March ’22

It’s that time of the month…

Lucky half marathon | Etsy

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am so over winter.

I was getting used to those frigid temps.

But I think going on a vacation to a warmer climate made it even worse.

NO LAYERS!!

Because then my body had to start all over!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after THREE half marathons in 5 weeks, I’m ready for a short break.

So of course, I signed up for races in March but shorter distances.  a 4 miler and a few 5 milers.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after my March break in half marathons, I’ll be back out there. I signed up for one in April and then one in May.

Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon

H2H HALF – 4/16/22

Steel Rail Races

STEEL RAIL HALF – 5/21/22

Half Marathons a month apart are perfectly spaced out in my book. Do you agree?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that speaking of half marathons, I did meet my 2:27 finish time goal (on my first try.).

NYRR Fred Lebow 2022

But I believe that I was mistaken about qualifying for the 2023 NYC Half Marathon.

There is NO longer time qualifying standards for the NYC half marathon. Now you have to complete 4 put of 6 qualifying races in 2022 or pay to run the 2022 virtual Half Marathon.

Boo!

But I will be 70 by the date of the 2023 NYC Marathon and the 2023 Brooklyn Half Marathon.  The Brooklyn Half appears to use the same standards as for qualifying for the marathon….

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that the least favorite part of my Florida race-cation was the race.

Yes, the race! And I love racing.

In this case, too much time was spent driving to and from the race (more than 3 hours each way). Originally I planned to visit my sister-in-law and niece but they had recently moved. And it was the only time during the vacation that it rained.

I enjoyed the weather, the friend meet-ups and all the other non-race activities. Next time, I will find a race nearby to my friends or skip it totally.

Update: I registered for:

Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

Who’s joining me? Cari? Jenny? Jenn?

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Are you anxious to get rid of those winter layers?  How much time do you leave between half marathons? Any shorter races on your schedule that you are looking forward to?  Do you usually plan a big race during your vacation? Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for Feb. ’22

It’s that time of the month…

Gift For Running Women and Runner Girls - 13.1 Half Marathon Run Word Cloud Typography - 11oz Ceramic Unique Coffee Mug Tea Cup, Black - Inspirational and Motivational Present

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I just ran a half marathon but crazy me signed up for two more this month!

Publix Florida Marathon & 1/2 Marathon - Melbourne, Florida - 2/13/2022 - My BEST Runs - Worlds Best Road Races

Feb. 27, 2022

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that you can never have too many pairs of running shoes especially if someone sells them cheaply. (I do add my own insoles!!)

Topos for $49 (new=$130) and they’re purple!

$40… had to buy them

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that my running group has been shrinking.  Between those who winter in Florida, those who are sick and those who are injured, I have struggled to find company to do my long runs on the weekends.  But fortunately I have only had to run ONE long run solo (due to 2 last minute cancellations).

I miss my tribe!

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I giddy about leaving this cold weather and heading to Florida in less than a week. I know it may not be very warm but it won’t be icy and the temps should be above freezing.

beach time?

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that related the above vacation, I have quite a few friends to visit and activities with them, believe it or not, will NOT involve running.

with a tennis friend, college roommate and former co-worker

Don’t worry, there will be:

    • a sunrise run or two
    • a half marathon
    • a meet-up with a running blogger (guess who?)

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Have you signed up for any winter long races? Do you ever buy used clothing/shoes? Any trips planned to escape the cold?  Do you always try to get in your running when you visit friends? Have you met other bloggers in person? Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for Jan. ’22

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have 22 goals for 2022 (and I’m not usually a Goals person.) Who am I?

(You can read about them on Tuesday Topics January 18 post)

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I accidentally ran 21 races in 2021.  The race sign ups were not accidental but the number was. So of course, I plan to run at least 22 races in 2022.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that my feet are blister prone. I have tried all kinds of shoes, socks and even taped my feet.

Several years ago, I stumbled up Karrimor socks on sale in EMS.  The were advertised to prevent blisters and they were very cheap (2 for $9).

KARRIMOR DUO RUNNING ANKLE SOCKS UK 4-8 BREATHABLE WHITE PINK

I bought 3 pairs. And I always wear them for races.

I race a lot and so they are thread bare.  I’ve searched and search for replacements.

I found them on Amazon for $35 (from China).   And I love them so much that I was tempted to order them.

Recently I searched again and this time I found them on Ebay (and in the UK.)

I ordered 3 pairs!! Score! My feet are happy again!

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that my high school reunion was cancelled last year. And it is re-scheduled for this year – June 5, 2022 at 1 pm. It’s biggie and I guess I should go.  My class had 962 people of which I was friends with about 10.  I still keep in touch through FB and occasional meet-ups.

two years ago

our last reunion – 11 years ago with my 5 closest friends

So what’s the problem? MY FAVORITE RACE IS THE SAME DAY!! (the one that I have run every year!!!!)

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that it’s only January but I have already registered for 13 races.

I’m cheap and I like to take advantage of the cheapest price.  I am also choosing the no shirt option (if there is one) in all my races.

Signing up early keeps me on track as far as mileage. I rarely if at all have to DNS any races.  Hopefully I will stay healthy next year as well.

    • 01-01-22 – Winter Series #2 (3.75m)
    • 01-09-22 – Winter Series #3 (3m)
    • 01-23-22 – Fred LeBow Half Marathon (NYC)
    • 02-13-22 – Florida Publix Half Marathon
    • 02-27-22 – Central Park Half Marathon (NYC)
    • 03-12-22 – Electric 5 Miler
    • 04-16-22 – Druthers Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon
    • 05-22-22 – Steel Rail Half Marathon
    • 05-29-22 – Miles Along the Mohawk 10 miler
    • 06-26-22 – Dodge the Deer 5k (trail race)
    • 07-04-22 – Firecracker 4
    • 09-10-22 – Malta 5k
    • 10-02-22 – Maine Half Marathon

There were even a few more that I almost registered for…

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Would you pick a race or a high school reunion if they were on the same day? How much would you pay for your favorite brand of socks? Have you registered for any 2022 races? Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for Dec. ’21

It’s that time of the month…

Amazon.com: Ceramic Running Christmas Coffee Mug | Running's My Favorite : Home & Kitchen

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that 2021 seems to have sped by.  But I think I’m on track (barring injury) to reach my 1000 mile running goal.

as of today, I’m up to 935!!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’m not into challenges and definitely not one related to ST but in November I actually completed one:

One 60 Second Plank each day for 30 days (through ZOOMA run club)

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that what I like about this Plank challenge was that it only took ONE minute a day… and it got easier rather than harder. Since I was working from home, I could do it any time of the day and even in my PJs or running clothes.

May be a closeup of text

Most plank challenges have you add time each day… so that you get stronger..

Hey, a one minute plank was a big enough deal for me. LOL

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that no, I was not tempted to continue my planks after November 30.

But due to the time change, I’ve had to do more of my 3 mile weekday runs at lunch time (or lighted UAlbany) and do my walks at the mall (both outdoor and indoor).

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I only have one more race for 2021.  That makes 21 for the year. (That number was just an accident.)

I’m pretty excited about this fun one because it was canceled last year and I was injured in 2019.  And you get to dress up.  But more importantly is that this is the last year for the Holiday Lights in the Park so it will most likely be the last year for this race. Sigh.

Happy Running! What’s new with you? Any challenges completed?  Any holiday-themed runs or races planned? Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Break for Nov. ’21 (Sunglass Saga)

It’s that time of the month…

t-shirt_keep calm_sunglasses_FINAL

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I lost a lens in my Goodr sunglasses. I contacted Goodr and in case you wear Goodrs too, here’s another reason to love them. They replaced them for FREE!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I also wrecked the lens in my favorite pair of Goodrs (Pride theme).  Unfortunately, they no longer make that style.  I  ordered a bland grey pair instead.  But they replaced them also for free.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that when my new Goodrs arrived, I realized that I had already replaced them. (Senior brain.)

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that that it gets worse, I was cleaning out my car and found the missing lens.

So who wants to trade???? I’ll send you my white/blue Goodrs if you send me one of yours…

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I always try to match my Goodrs to my outfit

or the season…

Fall and Christmas

I also buy ones from a favorite race.

Wineglass, NYC and Surftown

Yes, I have many pairs.

Can you have too many Goodrs?? I think not.

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Do you wear Goodrs? If not, what is your favorite brand?  Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Update for Oct. ’21

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’m on my way to NH for a race-cation with friends. I would have been shocked if you told me a year ago that today we’d still be wearing masks and worrying about COVID.

At least this year, the race will be an in-person one.

cooling off after our virtual half last year

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that normally I don’t have time goals for my 2021 half marathons…but I think I want to finish at least be ONE second faster than my last one….so 2:20:56.

The reason being is that my last one of the year will be HILLY and no chance of improvement.

hills of Altamont in the Upstate Classic – Nov. 21, 2021

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that yes, I signed up for another half marathon even before I ran the current one.

No surprise…

logo

Nov 21, 2021

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that boating season has almost ended and hiking season has begun.

The biggest dilemma is where to go…

to new places??

This one was new…

or places that I’ve already visited but loved???

Moxham Mt. last year

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that one home reno project leads to another. First I wanted to get rid of the wallpaper.

That led to new cabinets and appliances.

That led to plank flooring

and granite countertops.

The new flooring made me want to get rid of the carpeting in the family room… (but instead decided to put that on hold and just get our carpets professionally cleaned since we also need a new washing machine and my car needs work done.

What’s next?

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for Sept. ’21

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

After two months of going into the office three days a week, this month I will have to go back EVERYDAY!

I know I did it for many years before but still…. HOW???

I am so jealous of you runners who do not have to do your hair, make-up, put on jewelry and nice clothes and then pack a lunch, pre-run snack and your running stuff for all possible weather conditions. (RANT over!)

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I registered for Half Marathon #51 (counting all the virtuals of 2020). It is TOMORROW. Gulp!

Screenshot_20210610-070949_Gmail (1).jpg

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I ran 9 half marathons in 2020. However, I feel a little rusty. This is only my 3rd this year

and the last one was back in April.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I signed up for several more races in September and October:

    • 09-11-21 – Malta 5k
    • 09-25-21 – Freihofer Run for Women 5k
    • 10-03-21 – Smuttynose Half Marathon
    • 10-09-21 – Great Pumpkin Challenge 5k
    • 10-23-21 – Summer Smith Memorial 5k

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’d tell you that I won 2nd place in a photo contest.

I won what’s in the picture not what the email says.

However, I didn’t remember entering and I had no idea which photo won.  Glad they posted the winning pics:

took this one back in March

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that my kitchen make-over project is more stressful than training for a marathon.

  1. Having someone remove all the wallpaper and then paint.
  2. Buying all new appliances, having them delivered and installed
  3. Picking out cabinets, flooring, tile, etc.
  4. Hiring someone to install them.
  5. Picking out countertops and hiring someone to install.
  6. Having the cabinets and flooring delivered (my hubby has to pick up) and installed.
  7. Having countertops delivered and installed
  8. Odds and ends like new curtains, hardware and outlet covers, etc.

Much harder and longer than my 16 week marathon training plan. It leaves me wondering why I decided to do this and if I will get to that finish line…

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for August ’21

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

I’ve only been working in the office for three days a week but after 18 months of working from home, it has been a HUGE adjustment.

And now I even have to wear a mask ALL day!

new short hair and new mask mandate

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that what I miss the most about working from home is being flexible with the time I can run.  If I’m in the office, occasionally I may run before work but usually it has to be after work. And if the weather is bad, I have to skip the run.

No more lunch runs… sigh

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’ve again joined the Freihofer’s Training Group.  I usually participated in the Advanced group. But due to COVID restrictions, the groups are smaller and more numerous but the only Advanced group is scheduled on Thursdays which is my Trail Runs night. So until they are over, I’ll run with the Intermediate Group on Mondays after work.

we used to freeze during our runs in April…now the race has been re-scheduled to late Sept.

with the Beg. & Int. runners

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that in last month’s Coffee Update, I said that I had no races scheduled until September. Well, all of a sudden, I’ve run a 4 miler and a 5k.

I also signed up for another 5k and a 10k in August. And then a NEW local Half Marathon on Sept 4.

haha My Favorite Run

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am most excited about running in NYC on Aug. 30.  I had plans to go to NYC for the Van Gogh exhibit, a college reunion and weekend on the Hamptons. But I extended the weekend one more day so I could run in Central Park or along the Hudson R.

can’t wait, Cari!!

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I did take advantage of the Peleton special pricing – 3 months for the price of one. I joined on July 31 so that once my group runs end in September, I can use the app for my outdoor solo runs

Matty, I’ll be back soon!!

and for my neighborhood walks.

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for July ’21

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

I am very excited to go boating again on Lake George. If only the weather would be consistently warm on the weekends.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I start working in the office next week. BOO!!

I need to wear nice clothes, jewelry and make up, pack a lunch and bring the appropriate clothes (and snack) to run after work.

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have NO races on my schedule this summer.

Very strange. I even ran several races during the Pandemic and many many virtual ones.

Since we now CAN race, I have no desire to do a virtual one.

(Late update: I lied. On a whim, I recently registered for a race this coming weekend.)

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have been a Skirt Sports ambassador since the beginning. Last year they merged with ZOOMA. Now they have added Momentum jewelry. So now I represent all three brands.

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’ve been consistently running 10 miles each weekend until I have not…

I started to slack off in May when I was in Florida.  Once you stop, it’s so easy not to continue. So in June, I haven’t as well.

only 4 miles!!

Until my friends and I have a half marathon to train for, I just may run less….

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that although I will going back to the office for work next week, I do not know when I will be travelling again. I miss running in different locations. I miss my hotel points!!!

I think this was my last NYC run, I mean work trip (Jan 2020)

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.
