It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1. I runfess…
I admit that I may be a little (or a lot) vain…
As you may recall, I was named an Ambassador for the Maine Marathon.
They posted pics on FB and IG with text IDs for the 6 new Ambassadors:
My friends, of course, noticed their description of me and asked me if it bothered me… (If you didn’t notice, mine is the only description with an age reference).
It did…
2. And so (encouraged by my friends), I emailed them.
The response:
3. When I first signed up for my May half marathon, I thought that it would be a goal race. The Steel Rail Half Marathon had a flat course and it was my current PR.
I runfess…
After I did better than expected in my April Half Marathon,
I relaxed my training and just ran the Steel Rail Half Marathon for fun.
4. I Runfess…
I struggled recently with DNSing a race. I tried to think of all the reasons why I shouldn’t run it. And I came up with so many:
-
- exhaustion
- headache
- rain, humidity
- evening start
- crowded
- don’t know teammates
- hilly
- ran a 5k several days ago
- tapering for a half in 3 days
Yet I ran it anyway.
No regrets.
4. I Runfess…
I played tennis everyday while on vacation.
I may have enjoyed it more than running (although I did run everyday too.)
Since my gym membership ends on June 4, I may try to play tennis on my Mondays off.
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share!
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida!
So Join in!
And don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other blog
Yeah WTF. I’d be pissed about that as well. That’s so awesome that you’re getting back to tennis a bit!

Glad it wasn’t just me.
We’ll see about tennis. Hard to fit it all in.

Yes, that “older” is weird. I like the response- that they didn’t even realize it. Really?
That’s cool you enjoyed playing tennis so much! I can see how it would be a little harder to fit into your normal schedule- but if you could manage it, that would be fun.

It would be fun especially in the summer when you can play outside.
And I agree. I must look older. lol

“I ran it anyway” is your mantra, and awesome. So glad to see you get back into tennis. Social media can be home to so many faux pas. Well done on callingit out.

It was picky. So be it.
Extreme heat. I ran it anyway. Yes that’s me

I’m sure you’d have great fun playing with your friends on Mondays (when you do have them off).
I’m not super vain, but I probably wouldn’t like that description either.

Tennis is still up in the air… I may end up running, boating or hiking. Just enjoying my non-working day off.

Wow, that “older” description would rub me the wrong way. Totally inappropriate. It is nice to see you playing tennis again! That reminds me of my short pickle ball career last summer. I played a few times through the winter, but I much prefer to be outside. I’ll need to figure out a way to maybe work that back in…maybe, LOL.

No outdoor pickle ball? It’s popular in Florida.

good for you to email them back and ask them to change the description of you! You can kick a lot of other people’s butts out there on the race course regardless of age. (mine included)

Not sure about you but thanks for the compliment.

Why would they even feel the need to put the labels on anyone? Good for you for contacting them about it and bringing it to their attention.

They do on all their web content. It just bugged me. And esp when others noticed.

You run a ton of races – a DNS occasionally can be considered self care. (Was the text for blind people?? That’s weird!)

I suppose so.
And yes there are times appreciate to DNS. This was a fun run so not hard to just do it.

In my Runners with RA FB group, a woman was recruiting people for a research study. Or should I say she was recruiting seniors ages 50 and up. I immediately responded that I didn’t appreciate being called a senior!!! WTH? Ageism is so pervasive in our world. You are the last person I’d call older. Age is just a number. Glad you spoke up.

Thanks. I really don’t like being judged by my age.

His excuse is inexcusable!
Nothing wrong with enjoying tennis, especially when you’re on vacation with other tennis players.

That’s what I thought too.
I was surprised that I had fun. I wasn’t going to play much.

Was this some type of diversity thing that they even mention ethnicity and sex?
It just seems odd to have any description when they could just show your photo.

no idea….

Yeah that age reference was not cool! Odd that they had any descriptors for the photos.

I thought it was strange. Maybe for the vision impaired.

I wouldn’t have liked that either. What does “older” have to do with being an ambassador for a race? You are too funny with finding reason to DNS for a race. I just simply wouldn’t have shown up. 🙂

I almost didn’t. But in the end it was fun.
