It’s that time of the month…
to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.
1. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I am always training for some long race. This summer is no different. But I am thinking that I am a much better short distance runner.
I am more successful and there’s less stress in running 3 miles vs 13.
But then there’s the medal and the pride. Not sure I can give that up…
- 2:11:23
Ever think of sticking to the shorter races?
2. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that all of a sudden it is summer. I’ve been waiting so long for these temps. They are great for boating
but for running…not so much.
And I refuse to run on the treadmill!!
Do you struggle to run when the temps are over 80? Do you ever give in and run on the mill?
3. Over coffee…
I’d tell that I complained about never being home but I kinda miss my NYC traveling. Mainly because of the places to run there. There’s nothing like NYC for running.
- NYC – Central Park
- NYC – Hudson River Park
- in NYC – Eat River
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’d love to run on Governor’s Island, Roosevelt Island, over all the bridges, etc.
Ever run in NYC and understand what I mean?
4. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I still haven’t made my decision for a winter Florida race.
I thought I would go to Florida, as usual, to visit my friends and family and of course, run a half marathon. Maybe this one???
But some local runner friends are tempting me with this race. It’s been on my bucket list and it would be more fun to run it with people that I know…

unfortunately I think the expense (flights/hotel) is leading me to save this one for another year
Ever have a hard time choosing a race or is it just me?
5. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I enjoyed my summer mid-week races a lot. It allowed me to not have to choose between long runs/boating and racing on the weekend.

They sponsor 7 races (5k) on Weds in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and Ice Cream Social 5k on Jun 12.
If only locally, we had some mid-week races.
I did find one and of course, I signed up!!
Would you like to run evening races in the summer during the week or would you prefer races on the weekend?
It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.
Happy Running! Got anything to spill? Share it here!
I’m definitely better at shorter distances, too, but I like the challenge of longer distances (and the fact I get to eat a little more).
And of course you know I do run on the treadmill when it’s really hot (just not all the time).
I always thought I’d do Key West, but obviously that wasn’t my FL half.

We’ll see as I age if I keep up with the halfs. It’s tough to do those long runs in prep. And I love those weekend 5ks.
Key West is quite expensive and there are so many other places so we’ll see.

It’s definitely more challenging as you age. Whatever you choose to do, I know you’ll always be active. Maybe just not as many halfs, hmmm?

That’s why I want to make sure I stay healthy. Fewer weekly miles is probably the key. Yet somehow FOMO sets in and I sign up for another half. I have 3 planned for the fall.

I almost never run on a treadmill, unless I am in a hotel in and in an area where running is not safe. I do get discouraged with my running during the heat of the summer, but I am in Houston and it is warm a significant portion of the year. Also, I really enjoy your blog!

Thanks. I’m glad someone is reading it.
I’m with you, I only use the treadmill when it is too dark or dangerous to run outside or in a hotel.
Houston? You must be used to the weather we are having now. We, however, seldom get this heat so we are whining.

I’ve often though if I will ever run another marathon. I’ve run 3 so far and although I like the challenge, my body doesn’t really appreciate all of the mileage during training! For that reason, I’ve thought to sticking to half marathons as my long distance.

That is why I may never run a full. I just don’t want to train and am worried about all that mileage on my body. 13.1 miles is hard enough. But it’s not overwhelming.

I run a lot on the mill year around but there’s no air conditioning in my basement we’re it is.so it’s still hot!

Good for you. I hate it but it works for many people.

We are going to NYC for an overnight in a couple days. I only ever run in Central Park. Can you tell me some other good places to run? We will be staying on the Upper West Side, around 81st street, just 2 blocks from the park.

Oh lucky you. Run at Riverside Park. It’s path that goes along the Hudson River. You can run as long as you want… goes all the way to Battery park.
But actually Central Park is the best place to run. So many different paths.

Oh wow I did not know that! I wonder how far it is to battery. Time to Map My Run!

Far. Lol. I usually run one way line to the village and then take subway back

Megan, M anhattan is about 13 miles long. The good thing is you can run any distance you choose and then turn in to the subway back

Yeah, I echo Darlene on Riverside for the breeze and the sightseeing (Grant’s Tomb, Soldiers and Sailors, the Intrepid). But Central Park is amazing.
The West Side Greenway is amazing . Ping me if you need any local tips

Yes A trip to Fla in the winter is so awesome. I always go in March too but I think next winter, I may go in Feb.

I was toying with the November Half, but it doesn’t work as well calendar wise. Someone — maybe Wendy or Deb Runs? did a Gulf Coast half that looked great too

Funny you should ask about switching to shorter distances…I’m struggling really badly this summer with endurance. I’m not sure what it is–the humidity? RA? Menopause? I’m still pushing through my runs and hoping for a miracle. I’d love to do that Key West half marathon. It’s always been on my bucket list.

This summer is nuts. Yesterday I had to quit after 2.75 miles and I am not a sweater but I was dripping.

There are so many in Fla like 150. I recommend Music half in Sarasota or Naples Half.
I am tempted by Ft Lauderdale but I think is around school break so flights will be expensive,

Since my schedule is not a Monday thru Friday I would enjoy a race during the week.

I have yet to succumb to the treadmill. I figure, it will be just about as hot, but a LOT more miserable, right? I wish my area would have mid-week races in the evening. I’m doing an evening race next weekend…it’s a fun change of routine.

Same. I’ve only used the treadmill when it is too icy to run.
Have fun in all your upcoming races.
