Weekly Run Down for 3.10.24-3.17.24: Race Day!!

Finally! My first half marathon since last September.

My goal for this race (after my ankle injury) was to enjoy the weekend with friends and to finish the 13.1 miles smiling…

Stay tuned to see if that happened or not!

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Another dreary cold drizzly day… I started out at the gym and spent the rest of the catching up (and even started packing for my upcoming race weekend.)
  • Monday – The winds were insane…

I really wanted to squeeze in a run…

But I reluctantly bailed and postponed it until the next day.

Even week 4 of STEM mentoring got cancelled this evening due to the wind.

Instead I met my BFF for a walk in the mall.

  • Tuesday – No excuse since the wind had died down so I went for a run before work

the sunshine was lovely and I wore the bright evening outfit from the run that got cancelled the day before. LOL

and followed it by a day at the office.

celebrating St. Patty’s Day early

Finally a grandma visit after work.

gets bigger and cuter every visit

On my way home, I got a text from two former co-workers asking me to join them for a walk on the rail trail followed by dinner in an Indian restaurant.

love having these extra hours of daylight

  • Wednesday – Back to live teaching today (starting at 7 am) and so I had to run after work.

who knew that the temps after work would be 30 degrees warmer than when I left at 6:30 am?… Hot and sweaty!!

  • Thursday – A morning visit to the gym before WFH and then I was supposed to run after work with Heidi. She wasn’t able to join me then so I squeezed in a run at lunch which gave me time in the evening to pack and go on a wine date with a friend..

first signs of spring and wearing my 2019 race shirt hoping it will bring me luck on Sunday (FYI: it is the same color as the 2024 shirt!)

  • Friday – Still WFH but much to do since I was hosting mah jongg and had to finish packing…

The temps today were not as warm as previous days (and it was raining in the am)but the weather for Sunday looked ideal:

would this report be accurate???

  • Saturday – Six of us (4 racers & 2 spectators) took an early morning train to NYC. After we checked into our hotel, we had lunch and then went to get our race shirts and bibs.

Eventually we carb loaded on pizza, went to see the Field of Light display

and headed to bed for a very early wake-up call (for the bus to Brooklyn for the start of the race.)

  • Sunday –  RACE DAY! United NYC Half Marathon!

Early morning bus to Prospect Park (Brooklyn) and crossing the finish line 13.1 miles later in Central Park (Manhattan).

(Check out FB and IG for pics)

We have reservations at our favorite Italian restaurant for dinner tonight to celebrate our achievement.

pic from last March (at this restaurant) when I was recovering from a broken foot and could not run the race!!

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – recovery in NYC, (walk on the High Line, lunch in Chelsea), train home

Weekly Run Down for 3.3.24-3.10.24: Let There Be Light!

We turned the clocks ahead last night!!

It will be worth losing an hour of sleep for many reasons:

  • My cats will sleep later.
  • I can run anywhere after work.
  • It’s closer to when the flowers will bloom.
  • It will be warmer (hopefully).

Now if only the rain would stay away at the times I need to run…

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Just a visit to the gym…
  • Monday – It was a day off from work.  I normally would be hiking with my running friend Heidi but she was away,  Instead I contacted my friend Sherry and she agreed to go run with me.

although I planned to run the whole 4 miles with no walks, the humidity got to me but I was super glad for the company and the challenge…

Then in the evening, it was the 3rd week of STEM mentoring.

post run/walk stretching…

  • Tuesday – A morning visit to the gym before work and after work, a planned outdoor walk with a friend (whom I hadn’t seen in a long time). Rain got in the way of our plans so we walked inside at the gym and then I rewarded myself with a Shamrock Shake.
  • Wednesday – Another rainy forecast but I managed to squeeze my run in before work (had to work off that Shake).

the jacket, hat and gloves didn’t last long… another humid run… and a great way to start the day!!!

  • Thursday – Today I had to teach in the classroom

decided to try one of the new lavender coffees… meh… anyone else try it?

That meant my run had to happen after work.  No sweat because it was light enough to run anywhere (at least for just a few miles). And the rain had stopped. I was hoping for company but my running friend had to cancel so I was solo.

I was pooped from standing all day but it got done

  • Friday – Another live teaching day so there was only a quick walk at lunch and then mah jongg in the evening.

back to my favorite drink

  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day.. Last long run before the big race.  I wanted to run 10 miles. Again, rain was predicted but I was hoping like last week, we could get it done.

We did and I was happy to have company on the run and join others after for brunch…

a windy gray day…my legs were toast from standing all day Thurs and Fri and so I only ran 8 miles, then walked/ran another mile… 9 miles will have to do… as they say “the hay is in the barn”

Afterward, I had to squeeze in laundry, grocery shopping and a nail appt…

In the evening, I had bought a ticket to see this play with friends. Glad we went as it was really good!

A Shayna Maidel, Yiddish meaning “pretty girl,” tells the story of the reunion of two sisters after World War II, one having survived the Nazi concentration camps.

  • Sunday –  It will be a gym visit… and I may start packing and weather stalking…

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – run, STEM mentoring
  • Tuesday – GYM
  • Wednesday – run (after work)
  • Thursday – run (after work)
  • Friday – GYM, mah jongg
  • Saturday – train to NYC, expo, carb load…
  • Sunday – NYC Half Marathon!

This Coming Week on the Blog –

Weekly Run Down for 2.25.24-3.3.24: Training or Tapering?

If I hadn’t gotten injured, I would have already run a half marathon on Feb. 18 and I’d be tapering for the NYC Half Marathon in 2 weeks.

But I’m still playing catch up especially since I skipped my long run while on vacation in Florida.

Although is it still called “training” if you just want to finish the race?

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Another frigid morning.  I started the day with a visit to the gym.

haven’t posted a gym selfie in a while… just wanted to show you how empty it was (most people were on treadmills or the track)

After some errands, I went to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate the birthday of two friends (in the umbrella hats.)

  • Monday – Although my STEM mentoring (training victims of DV for a 5K in April) started last Monday, I was away so this was my first meet-up.

I knew that it would be the 2nd week of Couch-to-5k and mostly walking so I got in a few miles in the ‘hood during lunch.

thumbs up for sunshine and warmer temps (oops. overdressed)

I was correct in that most of the 2 miles were walking.

  • Tuesday – A busy work day but I went for an unplanned run after work since the forecast was for rain the next day.

so nice to still have daylight after work… and it was warm,  humid though the wind was not fun

In the evening, there was a ZOOM meeting for those who would be mentoring in the Freihofer Training Challenge (FTC) this spring.

We got the news that the race will have a new name (No longer “Freihofers.”)… but there will still be cookies!!

  • Wednesday – An early morning visit to the gym. It was a dreary rainy day and so I didn’t miss my outdoor run.

I did go to the office and had to stop on the way to …

yes, my office desk still has running-related items on it…

and then after work, I visited my granddaughter.

still cute as ever

The wind in the evening/night was insane… so glad that we didn’t lose power.

  • Thursday – I briefly contemplated running before work.

Not happening… wasn’t it just 60 degrees a few days ago?

So I waited until lunch and …

sun was out but… brrr

I finally dragged myself out to the rail trail after work… and I couldn’t believe how cold I was!!

it was sooo windy and I couldn’t wait to get done and be back in my warm car!!

  • Friday – Just a morning visit to the gym and mah jongg in the evening.
  • Saturday –  FOMO on a race I would have liked to have run…

Electric 5 Miler was now a 10k

but it was Long Run and brunch day… 12 miles on the plan and rain in the forecast.

We made the decision to run no matter what… and it never rained until we were done and at brunch!!

prepared for rain but after 4 mi, got rid of the jacket, extra shirt and gloves…

  • Sunday –  It will be a gym visit… maybe a hike since the temps look to be rising.

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – Day Off so hopefully a hike or a run, STEM mentoring
  • Tuesday – GYM
  • Wednesday – run (lunch)
  • Thursday – run (after work)
  • Friday – GYM, mah jongg
  • Saturday Long Run (10 mi.)
  • Sunday – GYM

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Staying Motivated
  • Friday – 2024 NYC Marathon?

Happy Running! Training for any big or small races? Any signs of spring? Has your weather been crazy this week? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 2.11.24-2.25.24: Back Up North!!

Brrr!

Just as I finally got acclimated to the warmer temps and humidity, I’m back!!

Two Weeks Ago –

  • Sunday – I thought that I might participate in the last HMRRC race.

sad to miss hanging out with these runners…

But due to an impending snowstorm, I decided to leave a day early on my trip. Hence, I had a lot to do.

I did get in one last trip to the gym and then spent the rest of the day on errands, packing and cooking (to feed the hubby while I’m gone…)

  • Monday – Early morning flight to West Palm Beach, FL.  I picked up my rental car and drove to my friend, Fonda’s in Delray Beach.

It was sunny and very warm so we hung out at the pool and then visited my favorite place to walk and bird watch – Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

  • Tuesday – It’s hard to get motivated to run when on vacation but I forced myself to get up early and head to Lake Ida to get in a few miles.

And since it was still early, I drove to the beach and walked for while.

The weather was perfect for soaking up some Vitamin D so Fonda and I returned to the beach and spent the afternoon there.

the pictures on the right were from my morning walk…

  • Wednesday – Galentines’s Day and a planned meet-up with blogger Jenny.

But first, I drove to beach to see the sun rise and it was just perfect.  I also had enough time to walk along the beach and pick up some pretty shells.

saw a wedding proposal too…

Then I met Jenny to walk at one of her favorite trails… two hours later we were done and headed to Starbuck’s to continue chatting.

it was so nice to chat with her…

Next, I stopped off at Gumbo Limbo because I wanted to meet Cari‘s mom who volunteers there. I hadn’t been there in years so I stayed for a quick visit (Unfortunately, they are renovating so the rescued turtles were housed elsewhere.)

still lots of interesting fish to see and a butterfly garden

I got back in time to meet Fonda at the pool and then we had dinner out with two of her friends.

  • Thursday –Another busy day in sunny Delray Beach, Florida. I started with some running in Boca Delray, the golf community where Fonda lives

followed by walking at Delray Oaks Natural Area Trail

and the El Rio Trail.

a great place to bike but otherwise disappointing (just a paved road)

The afternoon was spent with Fonda at Morakami Japanese Gardens. We ate lunch there and walked around the beautiful gardens.

beautiful trees, flowers, waterfalls, statues, alligators, birds, fish, turtles, iguanas and more..

Then I switched lodging. I would be staying 3 nights with my tennis friend Laurie who also lived in Delray Beach.

Tonight we had a planned outing to the Delray Open tennis tournament. We saw two great matches.

a exciting 3-setter with 2 unknowns and a nail biting win (7-6, 7-6) by Tiafoe (that ended at midnight)

  • Friday – This morning, I met a former co-worker for a walk/chat and bird watching at Green Cay.

afterward, we joined her hubby for lunch at a nearby deli

Then another perfect beach day with my friend Laurie. On the way home, we stopped at the Pinball Museum (so much fun playing on the old machines) before going to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.

  • Saturday – FOMO. No half marathon this trip as I deferred the A1A Publix Fort Lauderdale Half marathon until next year.

So instead I signed up for a 5k. What was I thinking… an early start and a longish drive.

I kinda forgot about the race and had Mexican food and margaritas for dinner the night before and we went to bed after midnight.

But I did go and my friend Laurie came too. She walked her first 5k.  We had a blast.

won my AG and met Jeannie Rice – what a day!

After a free breakfast at the race, we decided to take the long way home and drove along the coast all the way to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Mar-A-Lago on the bottom right

Last Week –

  • Sunday – This morning I moved to my last stop. 2 nights staying at my college roommate, Barbara’s in Boca Raton.

We were planning to go to an arts festival or the beach.

Nope!  I had my first rainy vacation day.

Plan B – a French movie, a walk in the mall, happy hour, and then a nice dinner out.

a surprise meet-up in the mall with someone who was in the group we went to France with during our junior of college.

  • Monday – Phew, the rain only lasted one day. I started the day with a run around Barbara’s community.

Then we drove to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami. The weather was lovely and there was lots to see (and many freebies.)

On the way home, Barbara insisted that I had to eat at Jaxson’s.

the diet starts when I get home… we did share that foot long hot dog…

In the evening, we went to hear a great Motown group that was playing at a club in Delray Beach.

  • Tuesday – My last day in Florida. 😦

You know that my favorite Florida thing to do is watch the sun rise on the beach.  The weather cooperated and it was again perfect!!

Eventually it was time to say good-by and return my rental car and fly home.

  • Wednesday – I was pooped but I dragged myself out of bed to go to the gym… it had been a long time since my last visit.

UGH!!

It was a work from home day so I could wait until the temps warmed up to go for a lunch run.

the sun made it feel warmer than the temps and just in case you missed pics of Diamond..

I agreed to volunteer with STEM, a group that trains victims of domestic violence to run a 5k. I was scheduled for Mondays but I was away.  I had planned to go tonight but I was too busy with unpacking and laundry.

  • Thursday –  A busy work day but at least again I was WFH so I squeezed in my run before work. It was less windy and warmer than the day before…

I need to start the day like this more often…

Then after work, my monthly dinner with my tennis friends was scheduled.

  • Friday – Gym morning, then just work and mah jongg in the evening.
  • Saturday – Long Run. I ran 10 miles two weeks ago and last weekend only a 5k, so this week, 11 miles was on my schedule as I prepare for the NYC Half on March 17.

It was cold!! And windy! But I had company for most of the run!  Brunch was the best part. LOL

too cold for a runfie… ran/walked the first 4 w/Barbara and then ran the next 4 w/Stan & Sherry, dragged myself thru the last 3 – feeling very out of shape!!

  • Sunday- A visit to the gym and birthday party for 2 friends

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – run, STEM mentor
  • Tuesday- gym
  • Wednesday – run
  • Thursday – run

Weekly Run Down for 2.4.24-2.11.24: Getting Ready to Head South

I hate winter and cold temps!!

So I can’t wait to leave town and run in a skirt!!!

Counting the days…

Until then, just getting my runs done!

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Rest Day!  I started at the gym and then got lots done including a needed manicure, car wash, etc.
  • Monday – Day Off in order to hike with my running friend Heidi.

I got up early to get my run done. It was freezing so I decided to postpone it until the next day.

Heidi and I headed south (though it was still very cold) and our first stop was Thomas Cole Historic Site. From there we walked across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and back (so windy but the sun felt awesome).

We had a delicious lunch nearby (with a water view) and then drove to the Olana Historic Site where walked some of the trails.

6.3 miles on our feet for the day before we stopped for dessert on the way home.

  • Tuesday – I went to the gym early and then at lunch, I rushed out to do my run (as I needed to burn off calories before my dinner with my stepson later on.)

still chilly but day 4 of sunshine. Woo Hoo!

  • Wednesday – Can we make it 5 in a row?  Sunny days, I mean?

Yes! So an after work run followed by a walk in the mall with my BFF.

lucky to have that extra daylight.. but still icy heading west..

The sunset was amazing but my friend’s photo is better than mine:

  • Thursday – Another early morning gym day. Still chilly (20s) but lots of sunshine!!!

I thought I’d have company for my after work run at UAlbany.

Instead I ran alone and chose the other end of the rail trail.

I do love all the views of the creek at this end of the bike path.

  • Friday – Rest day. It was supposed to rain but it was again sunny. So I took a quick walk at lunch…

first time on the waterline behind my house since the summer..

visited my granddaughter after work

I’m biased but she is the cutest..

and ended the day with the mah jongg ladies.

  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day.. We were finally able to run on the rail as the snow has melted.  My plan was for 10 miles or as many miles as my ankle could handle.

Intervals and a friend got me through it and even the rain held off.

10 miles and “fake spring”

After brunch, I rushed off to my hair appt.

  • Sunday –  It will be a gym visit… or maybe my first race (a free local one) or perhaps I will walk it like the last one… hopefully the weather will be better.

it poured the whole race (and we walked)

And then start packing for my Florida trip.

What no pictures of new kitty?

Champ has started to tolerate Diamond…

This Coming Week and Next Week on the Run –

Weekly Run Down for 1.28.24-2.4.24: Just Moving Forward

…as opposed to backward.

The ankle feels fine so it’s hard to hold back.

But walking down the stairs reminds me that it’s not 100%.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I mentioned in my last WRD that I always participate in our local free Winter races…

last year

I had run 6 miles the day before and the weather was awful – cold, rainy – so I was just going to go the gym.

My running friend Heidi (pictured above) asked me to go with her. She said she would even walk the distance (3.75 miles).

So I agreed.

However, the weather got worse and she tried to bail.

“Nope, I said.  You got me out here. We’re doing this.”

And we did. We survived!

nice to catch up with lots of racing friends and enjoy the chili, cookies and hot cocoa afterward.

phew… we beat the 91 year old

We didn’t look as nice after the race. LOL.

  • Monday – Back WFH so I had time to go to the gym before work

my driveway (top) and view from the gym (bottom)

and was able to find some dry roads to get some miles in at lunch.

the snow made it feel colder than the temps… my new kitty had the right idea

  • Tuesday – I had to go to the office this afternoon but I thought that I might go to the gym first thing.

but she was on my lap so how could I leave??

I did do my run afterward at UAlbany where the paths are always clear.

They call me “mellow yellow..” Anyone know that song?

  • Wednesday – Rest day from running and so I forced myself to the gym instead before work.
  • Thursday – No WFH today so I had to run after work and again at UAlbany.  Glad to have some company this time!

thanks Heidi…

  • Friday – NO WFH again today… nada except Mah Jongg in the evening.
  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day.. Searching for clear paths to get 8 miles done.

I was happy to find out that the Nisky bike path was clear in both directions.  But I was bummed that my running companions were either sick or on vacation.  So I tackled the 8 miles alone and then enjoyed brunch with two friends.

it was freezing out but the sun felt amazing!!

I was able to get al my errands done in time to go to the movies…

❤ ❤ – esp the scenes of Paris

  • Sunday –  It will be a gym visit…

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – Day Off so a run followed hopefully by a hike
  • Tuesday-Friday – rehabbing my ankle and training for NYC.
  • Saturday Long Run – 9 or 10 mile run/walk, brunch with running friends, hair appt.
  • Sunday – GYM or 4.5 mile local (free) race.

Weekly Run Down for 1.21.24-1.28.24: Making a Comeback…

The ankle is on the mend and I am starting to run more consistently even looking to start training!

But why is the weather always better when you cannot run???

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Freezing and even windier than the day before… so I went to the gym and used the machines and then walked on the track.

I had a lot of errands to do while I was out and then later in the day, we took a ride to the Pretty Paw Lounge.  It’s a cafe where you can play with and adopt rescued cats.

No, we didn’t adopt one but it was tempting… luckily the ones we liked had to be taken in pairs (and we only wanted ONE cat.)

  • Monday – I have previously mentioned that I am back to working 100% so I have no official Mondays off.

But I did take today off.

It was still very cold but sunny with no wind so I headed out to run in the ‘hood.

I even felt ‘warm” outside

Afterward I met my running friends Heidi and Sherry and we drove to Williamstown, MA to have lunch and hike.

All the trails were snowy and icy so we wound up walking 3.5 miles around the Clark Institute and surrounding area.

hot drinks (and dessert)

I had to rush home to participate in a ZOOM call for the STEM mentoring program that I may join.

I’ve done it many times in the past and am excited to return to it this spring.

  • Tuesday – Back to WFH but I did have to leave to go to the office and then to set up for for my class the next day.

Rainy, snowy evening but the hubby and I did check out Pet Smart cat adoptions in Amsterdam (an hour away)…

Hint. Hint.

  • Wednesday – No time for anything besides work today. And it was a snowy, rainy day!

the highlight of my work day!!

Tonight we had our scheduled monthly tennis dinner.

I’m so glad that we do organize these meet-ups… these ladies make me miss playing tennis.

  • Thursday – WFH again so I was able to go to the gym before work and squeeze in a run either at lunch or after work at UAlbany (if it stopped raining).

My running friend couldn’t meet after work so I did my run solo at lunch.

heat wave (40’s)… I was overdressed!

And then my BFF was not able to meet to walk the mall so I stopped by to visit my granddaughter and then I walked the mall by myself.

she is growing so fast…

  • Friday – More WFH so I had time to go to the gym before work (but I slept in instead) …

my new morning BFF

So I drove to the gym at lunchtime and walked on the track (yes, it rained most of the day).

I listened to an interesting AMR podcast about getting faster… but those annoying 2 lane walkers (one of the left is a trainer.)

Mah Jongg was held at my house in the evening.

  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day..

As I mentioned above, I’m not running long YET but starting to look ahead to training for a few half marathons.

I haven’t officially deferred my Feb 18 one (but I will) but I do hope to race a half in NYC on March 17!! (I also signed up for one April 13 and May 18.)

Last Saturday, it was 4 miles and today I attempted to run/walk 6 miles.

It helped to have company and warmer temps than the previous weekend.

Of course, the run ended with brunch.

ankle felt great – hooray!

  • Sunday –  It will be either the stationary bike or a gym visit…

or perhaps a free local race (weather dependent since a storm is predicted.)

2022

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – Friday – rehabbing my ankle and training for NYC.
  • Saturday Long Run – 8 mile run/walk, brunch with running friends
  • Sunday – GYM

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Returning to Running After an Injury
  • Friday – Ultimate Coffee Date

Weekly Run Down for 1.14.24-1.21.24: Back in the Big Apple

I love NYC so it was not a hardship having to spend the week there again.  And I won’t be back for 2 months.

Too bad the weather did not cooperate.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I hate those FB memories!!

I would normally have run a fun free local race today.

2022 race

I was tempted (since I had registered) to go and walk the shortest distance (3 miles)

But I was afraid that I would run and it’s probably too soon to race on my barely healed ankle.

So I instead went to the gym, used the machines and did 3 run/walk miles on the track.

I experimented with a lighter brace and 2 loops running and one loop walking.

There was ZUMBA class below and the music was too loud for me to listen to a podcast and I was wearing my recovery shoe not my running shoes but it was fine…

I planned on going on an outdoor walk but didn’t get it done before a monster snow squall. The sun did come out and then there was more snow!!

Since our 25th wedding anniversary was on Tuesday (while I was away), we went out to dinner today to celebrate.

  • Monday – Even though it was a holiday (Martin Luther King Day), I had to head to NYC because I was scheduled to work in Queens the next day.

I had time to go to the gym before my train.

I used my usual machines and then I headed to the track. With 17 degrees outside and lots of ice, it seemed that everyone else had the same idea.

I went back to my heavier brace and ran 3 loops/ walked 2 for about 1.5 miles.

I forgot my headphones so I had to concentrate on the view and weaving around the slow walkers.

After checking into my hotel (near Penn Sta.), I checked the weather and realized that it was the only possible day to go to Central Park. I hopped the subway and ran 1.5 miles around the reservoir.

yes, there was a guy wearing shorts!?

It was cold but bearable and so I continued to walk around the park and then back to my hotel.

how come I never notified that finish line plaque?

  • Tuesday – After I returned from working in Queens, I really wanted to run again. Today was 4 weeks since I fell and sprained my ankle.

I headed out toward the Hudson River. It was freezing, windy and so icy. Not a chance I could run. So I thought of walking the High Line. Nope. Closed due to wintry conditions.

frozen hot chocolate is always a good idea, right?

Instead I walked indoors in the mall at Hudson Yards.

  • Wednesday – After I returned from working in Queens today, I got together with my NYC friend Elizbeth. Unfortunately Cari was working. You know Cari.  And Elizabeth is a runner too but somehow we seem to meet up to chat and eat/drink.

  • Thursday – Today, I worked near Wall St rather than Queens.

And I had gotten tix to a Broadway show.

Too cold and and icy to run before the show so I tried to get it done on the hotel treadmill. Ugh! I made ONE mile and quit.

I did walk to and from the theater.

The show was meh but at least the tix were not expensive.

  • Friday – I went to work early to get some steps in before it started to snow.

  • After a long work day, I took the subway back to my hotel, grabbed my luggage and then caught the train home.
  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day..

It had snowed a little the day before and it was freezing. I was tempted to bail but I convinced my running friend Deb to run/walk 4 miles with me at UAlbany.

The path was clear and dry… It really wasn’t that bad and I’m glad I didn’t wimp out and run on the treadmill.

After we met a few of our other running friends for brunch.

So this my first outdoor run since ankle injury.  I was little nervous starting at 4 miles (but I had run 3 the previous weekend on the indoor track.) I wore a brace do run/walk intervals and it felt fine during and after.

It’s not 100% (bruised and a little swollen) but because it’s stiff, it still bothers me walking down stairs.

I’m hopeful that it continues to improve so I can complete 13.1 on March 17 (in 8 weeks. gulp)!!

  • Sunday – Most likely a gym visit… errands…

Weekly Run Down for 1.7.24-1.14.24: Winter Has Arrived…

Yup, we finally got some snow… but due to rain, it didn’t last long and that was fine with me.

On the injury front, the ankle is improving. Not as fast as I would like, but it’s getting there.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I planned to go to the gym but..

It wasn’t much snow at first but then it continued to snow for most of the day.

Despite the snow, my granddaughter’s Christening went off without a hitch (sort of).

  • Monday – Back working from home today.. I planned to start the day at the gym but I was still pooped from the previous week in NYC and so I slept in.

The sun was shining… a sight we haven’t seen in forever so I put on my boots and went for a walk during lunch.

it felt great to be outside!!

Finally after work, I dragged myself to the gym and hit the machines.

  • Tuesday – Today was 3 weeks since I fell and sprained my ankle. I am walking better but certainly not in shape to run yet.

I went to the office and then walked a little during lunch before going to set up for my class the next day.

After dinner, I hit the gym again to get some more steps in on the track on this nasty rainy day… In fact, I walked 15 laps or 1 mile!!

  • Wednesday – Long day at work (live teaching).

I needed this!!

After work, I met my BFF to walk in circles around an outdoor mall.

  • Thursday – Back to WFH.

Gym first thing.

Rode some miles on the stationary bike during lunch.

More walking at the gym after work but I had to cut it short in order to meet some friends (I hadn’t seen in a long time) for dinner.

Taco Thursday = $3 off 3 tacos 🙂

  • Friday – Another WFH day. Similar to the day before except I walked outdoors at lunch and instead of the gym, I played mah jongg in the evening.

For my walk, I returned to the scene of the crime (where I fell).  I hesitantly tried to run… just a few steps. They were slow and awkward but I continued to run more steps and walk and run even more….

I wore a brace on my ankle and I’m not sure my feet were off the ground… but I RAN!!

  • Saturday – Long Run Saturday and brunch day..

I planned to walk outside but it was raining so I headed to the gym to walk on the track and then meet my running friends for brunch.

I may have shed some happy tears…

Well, I decided to run one loop and see how it felt. It felt ok so I continued to walk a loop, then run a loop, walk a loop, run a loop…

The temps warmed up to 50 degrees with rain, hail, sun…

Eventually, it was dry, I ventured out for a walk.

  • Sunday – No hiking yet so again it will be either the stationary bike or a gym visit… We do have a local race… (I could walk the 3m???)

There also will be packing for my work trip to NYC.

And dinner out to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!!

This Coming Week on the Run –

Weekly Run Down for 12.31.23-1.7.24: Just Limping Along…

Obviously a slow start to my running/racing in 2024.

had to switch my running emoji to this one… (and yes I do those those exact Crocs)

At least I was working in NYC for most of the week and that helped take my mind of it.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I started the day at the gym since I wouldn’t be able to go the rest of the week.

Then I stopped by to visit my granddaughter.

she’s getting so big!!

Lots to do to get ready for my week in NYC.

Our New Year’s Eve was low key… just a dinner out with the hubby with a stop to see my MIL (who lives nearby.)

dessert!

  • Monday – New Year’s Day –  I was supposed to run a race. It was a free local one so no $$ loss but lots of FOMO (since I run it each year with my friends.)

2022 race – no snow this year!!

Now I didn’t have to rush to catch my train to NYC.

Instead I did a few miles on the stationary bike.

After I arrived in NYC and checked into my first hotel, I met Cari for dinner.

always a good time

Afterward, I explored some of the nearby holiday lights.

Wall St/Stock Exchange neighborhood

  • Tuesday – After standing all day, I wasn’t sure what to do about my ankle.

I took the long way back to my hotel (via Battery Park)

it was worth it

I decided to give it a go and walk to WTC and Brookfield Plaza…

Then I grabbed some dinner in the Oculus and walked back to my hotel. Next door to my hotel was a Rooftop restaurant/bar where I had a drink/dessert…

  • Wednesday – After work, I had to switch hotels. My new hotel was near Penn. Sta.

I still wanted to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and the light show at Saks so I took a subway there (to save time and my ankle).

I walked back to my hotel via 6th Ave, Bryant Park and Macy’s.

  • Thursday – Today I took a very early subway to Jamaica, Queens for work.

I was excited because after work, when I returned to Manhattan, I was able to meet up  with college friends for dinner. I was also able to grab tickets to a show that they were going to.

  • Friday – Back in Queens for work and after a long day, I returned to Manhattan and took the train home.
  • Saturday – Long Run Saturday – or for me, bike or gym and brunch day..

I headed to the gym and then met my running friends for brunch.

In the afternoon, I had a hair appt and then had to go grocery shopping plus some other errands.

The rest of the day was spent unpacking and waiting for our snowstorm to arrive.

  • Sunday – No hiking so again it will be either the stationary bike or a gym visit…

and Heather’s Christening.

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – Friday – same old, same old… trying to patiently heal my ankle.
  • SaturdayLong Run – biking, brunch with running friends
  • Sunday – GYM, pack to head to NYC for work the next day
