Well, it’s that time of year. Time to pick ONE WORD to focus on for the entire year. (If you’ve never heard about the My One Word approach, here is a summary:
Lose the long the list of changes you want to make this year and instead pick one word. This process forces clarity by taking all of your big plans for life change and narrowing them down into a single thing. Your one word focuses on your character and creates a vision for your future.)
Below is a list of the words, I’ve chosen so far:
- 2014: ACCEPTANCE
- 2015: BELIEVE
- 2016: GRATITUDE
- 2017: RELAX
- 2018: ADAPT
- 2019: RE-FOCUS
- 2020: PATIENCE
- 2021: RESILIENCE
- 2022: INTENTIONAL
- 2023: REJUVENATE
So how did I rejuvenate myself in 2023?
- Joined a gym
- Raced on a Trail
- Completed my Second Marathon
- Became a Grandmother
- Enjoyed time with friends.
- Continued hiking on my Mondays off.
- Replaced my 13 year old car
- Read lots of books while relaxing on the islands of Lake George.
- Picked up knitting again and made a pair of socks and a baby blanket.
What about 2024?
This is the word I’m choosing:

Happy Running! Do you choose a Word each year? If so, what have you chosen one for 2024? Please share.

Since today is Tuesday, I’m linking up with Zenaida (The Running Teacher) and Jenn (Runs with Pugs).

I’m also linking up here tomorrow:

with co-hosts Coach Debbie Runs, Confessions of a Mother Runner, Mile by Mile, and Runs with Pugs

That’s a great word!
I don’t choose a word every year, but I think it’s a good practice, especially after reading that One Word approach above.
You did well on applying “rejuvenate” last year. I think putting yourself in new situations like trail races or becoming a grandmother(!) keep you young!

I hope I remember to think about my word during the year. Often I forget and don’t look until I’m choosing a new one.

I LOVE IT! I’m still taking down my Christmas decs (oops) and so many of them say “Joy to the World” or just “Joy”- as I’m taking them down I’m glumly thinking “No more joy…” Ha ha, that’s completely ridiculous. We have to keep the joy going! I love the Nikki Banas quote. I’m making “Joy” my word as well, to go along with my phrase for 2024.

JOY is a great word to focus on, not just in 2024 but with life in general. There is MUCH out there that brings us joy, even if we sometimes have to search for it.

It’s hard to not focus on what’s wrong. So I’ll try to find more joy.

Nice! We could all use more joy in our lives, or at least I know I can!

I think joy is a great word to define your goals for 2024. I don’t really choose a word but I do love reading what other people choose.
