It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1. I runfess…
This may sound depressing but when I heard that my best friend from Junior High died (went to bed with a headache and never woke up), I decided CARPE DIEM and to sign up for that marathon while I am able.
and so I clicked:
2. I runfess…
Last month, my hubby caught COVID (Sorry I didn’t post about it).
He had a mild case and it didn’t interfere with my running/social schedule. 😉 and I never caught it!!!
3. I runfess…
Some runners enjoy running alone. I don’t mind for short runs.
But more than 4 miles… I NEED company.
I am hoping I don’t regret having to run those 16, 18, 20 milers next Fall!!!
So fingers crossed that a few of my local running friends get into the NYC marathon lottery.
4. I runfess…
I LOVE to race (as you probably know) and sign up for as many races as I can (in advance). This was my plan for the next few months. Those in BOLD are paid for but those in ITALICS are non-refundable, non-transferrable, only available through time qualifying or a lottery and expensive. The others are ones that I planned to run:
-
- 02-19-23 – Publix Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon
- 03-11-23 – Electric City 10k
- 03-19-23 – United NYC Half Marathon
- 03-26-23 – Shamrock Shuffle
- 04-15-23 – Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon
- 04-30-23 – Sasha’s Super Hero 5k
- 05-07-23 – Tropicool 5k
- 05-13-23 – Prospect Mountain Run
- 05-18-23 – CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge (3.5m)
- 05-20-22 – Brooklyn Half Marathon
- 05-28-23 – Miles on the Mohawk 10 miler
- 06-03-23 – Freihofer Run for Women 5k
- 06-18-23 – Valley Cats Father’s Day 5k
- 06-25-23 – Race to the Lakes 15k
- 06-25-23 – Dodge the Deer 5k
- 07-04-23 – Firecracker 4
- 08-13-23 – Run for the Roses 5k
As in the last 10 years, my body has cooperated.
5. I runfess…
In addition to not liking to run alone, I don’t like to race alone. I am a well-known race enabler. Just ask my friends. And it is unfortunate when I talk them into signing up and sharing hotel rooms and I cannot run. (Details on this will be coming in the WRD on Sunday.)

Sherry & Stan (pictured right) signed up for those March, April and May half marathons due to my urging.)
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Anyone else enter the lottery for the NYCM 2023? Do you plan your racing schedule way in advance? Have injuries ever forced you to DNS a big race? Please share.

I also do not like to run or race alone! The social aspect is huge for me too. Those are a lot of races!

They WERE. not anymore. Sigh.
Running with others makes the time go by faster.

Okay Darlene, that’s exciting, NYC Marathon next fall!!! You’ll find people to do those long runs with you. In the meantime… hang in there. This too shall pass!

It will. And the weather sucks here.

I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your childhood friend. Congrats, though, on choosing to seize the day and sign up for the NYC Marathon! I hope you find lots of friends to complete those long runs with!

I hope so too. It’s a lottery so you never know.

Sorry to hear about your old friend, and I think that’s a great reason to sign up for the marathon. Maybe you can get people to join your long runs in legs, on a sort of relay basis – that’s what I usually have to do as no one as slow as me runs as far as me / no one who runs as far as me runs as slowly as me!

Exactly. That’s what happened in 2019. I had company for part of my runs. My friends are great like that.

I am so so sorry for your loss. And I am so so sorry for whatever happened in Florida. I blame the state. I’m glad you registered for that marathon.

Ha ha I hate those pretty Florida sunrises too.

I think you’ll find folks to run part of the miles with you. It’s what I did with Elizabeth as I’m neither fast enough nor was interested in running long so I’d join her for 8-10.
I don’t mind racing alone because I meet people in the corrals. But enabling is fun

Will I enable you? We need to race together again.

I am happy to be enabled at anything 13.1 or below.

So sorry for your loss Darlene. That hits close to home. I’ve lost a couple of elementary school friends over the past couple of years and it definitely gives me pause. Way to carpe diem and pull the trigger for NYCM. That’s so exciting!

It is exciting and scary at the same time.

And even when we are not that old. It is sad for her kids.
Yes. I’m excited but nervous.

I’ve been lucky not to DNS any races, but I’m sure that day will come. I’ve come really close several times, mostly due to family issues.
I’m sure you’ll have company for the long runs, one way or another.

Unfortunately the more races you run, the more likely to DNS.
And yes the Sole Sisters are very supportive. I’m lucky to be part of this group.

I’m sorry for your loss but happy that you’ll be running the marathon “with” me in November. YOLO – right?
I like to do long runs with company, too.

Hooray. I was hoping to meet you in March. But we’ll plan a meet up for November.

I’ll be there in March, too! So hopefully we can meet up both times!

That’s exciting that you’re running NYC Marathon! By then you’ll probably have a whole bunch of other people you know running it!
I’ve only DNS’d once, but I should have a couple of other times as well, when I was younger and more stubborn. After you see the consequences of running a race when you’re injured, it makes you not want to go through that again, though.

Running a race injured is no fun especially if it makes the injury worse.
Not sure about the marathon. It’s very difficult to get in through the lottery.

Darlene, I’m so sorry about your friend – hits like a punch in the gut 😦 I admire your decision to run NYCM! I’m hoping I’ve got one more marathon in me at some point soon. I’m so excited for you!

Thanks I’m excited. But then again I haven’t started training. Ask me again in October.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. That is just horrible.
I have had to DNS a few races, so that does make me hesitate to sign up for pricey ones — but I also don’t want to pay extra for cancellation insurance!

I wish I did now. But at the time I was too cheap.
