A new running year and time to start training.
For me that means, long runs on the weekend to prepare for all those Half Marathons that I signed up for…
Crazy me!
Anyway, the first one is Feb. 19.
This one will be the hardest since my last one was in November so there was a restful break in training. And of course, there’s the cold, snowy, icy weather which can always derail my running.
After that, although I have half marathons in March, April and May… hopefully, I will stay heathy and just maintain the miles and the weather will warm up and the bike paths clear….
Last Week:
- Sunday -Winter Series #2 Race.
The choice was a half marathon or 5.5K 3.75m. The shorter distance for me! And since I ran 7 miles the day before, this was just a “fun” run with friends. But it was very windy and chillier than I was dressed for. I started run/walking intervals with my friends but I was too cold to continue and so I just ran ahead by myself.
Then I had to go to the Apple Store to pick up my new watch. I’ve been procrastinating but my old one dates back to 2016!! ❤ it for everyday use… still a Garmin diehard for races.
- Monday – #Nevermissamonday…. It was a slow work day (because last week was so crazy) and I was able to run during lunch.

so exciting to see no snow or ice on the rail trail… Over dressed today, under-dressed yesterday. Will I ever get it right?
Then after work, I met my BFF for a long walk.
- Tuesday – Rest Day and a hair appt after work. Rainy day, anyway.
- Wednesday – I had plans to meet a running friend after work (as long as it wasn’t raining.)
With rain predicted for late in the day, I squeezed in a run during lunch…
and then another after work at Ualbany (because it didn’t start raining until 7pm).
Both runs were slow with walk intervals so I didn’t overdo things.
- Thursday – Busy work day so I could only get my run done after work. Besides again, it was rainy off and on most of the day.
I didn’t want to drive back to UAlbany (since I was WFH) so I took a chance and ran in town. I got it done before it got too dark.
- Friday – A Rainy Rest Day!!
A stop at the office and the evening with the mah jongg ladies.
- Saturday – Long Run Day. 8 miles on my plan. So happy with the thaw that the bike paths were clear and my friends were available.

nice weather, friends and run/walk intervals definitely made the miles enjoyable and brunch after (8 of this week)
- Sunday – It is time to hit the trails. I haven’t been in weeks.
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – DAY OFF – run, hike with a friend
- Tuesday – run at lunch, dentist appt
- Wednesday – rest day (train to NYC???)
- Thursday – run after work (NYC?)
- Friday – rest day, mah jongg (or train home??)
- Saturday – Long Run (9 miles)
- Sunday – Winter Series #3 race (5.5k)
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – Best of 2022 (Race Awards)
- Friday – 5 Things That Motivate Me

I’m surprised you had to work Monday with it being a federal holiday, but glad it was quiet.
Those NY Day emails were the first ones I got from Hudson MOhawk in years. So weird

I can use Christmas and new years as floaters and I will for my trip in Feb.

I had an Apple Watch when they first came out and didn’t really like it. It seems that they have done a ton of updates with the running metrics and many more features. You should let us know your favorites. Have a great week!

I don’t use it at all for running. I use it for the calendar gps texting and phone calls. The mileage is not accurate. Yesterday we ran 8 miles and on my watch it was 7.8.

Your year is off to a great start! You’ve got plenty of time to ramp up for that Half — hopefully the weather will cooperate and not dump too much snow on your trails.

Yes so far so good… fingers crossed that the paths stay clear and the weather cooperates for my weekend long runs.

Wow, so much rain! I guess at least that means it’s too warm for snow, right? That said, rain is a buzzkill, especially this time of year.

It’s way better than snow… and because of it, the paths are clear… for now!

My husband loves his Apple watch and wanted to get me one for Christmas a few years ago, but I opted for a new Garmin running watch instead.
Good job on getting your workouts in despite the weather.

I agree with you.. Garmin can’t be beat for running.

How cool that you’ve already booked in half marathons! I love it. Well done squeezing in your runs between rain showers and work and whatnot! You’re very inspiring.

Aw thanks… if I register for races, I will run!!!

I got a new Apple Watch last fall and while it is great, I don’t use it for running either. I like my Garmin for all the stats it gives me.

Definitely agree. Do you wear both at the same time?

No, just one or the other. Do you?

Same. I know some runners who wear one on each wrist.

You’ll be fine for the February race! Plenty of time for a few more long runs. Fingers crossed for good weather- today’s weather would be nice. It was low 60s and low humidity for my run.
You had a lot of rain last week- that’s unusual for January! Nice job getting all your runs done.

It is unusual. But I’m happy it wasn’t snow.
And 60s for a race would be perfect. 80s for the beach days.

Looks like you’re off to a great start! No doubt you’ll be ready for your first race. We had so much rain here too – I guess it’s better than snow, right?

Yes yes. Much better than snow

If I do train for something, my guess is it will be in the Fall. So I’ll get back to running at some point and just take it easy.

Whatever works for you.
As you’ve said. We all run for different reasons. I enjoy the challenge even if I’m not training.

Looks like you’ve got some exciting races ahead. All the best with your training. I am envious of your sunshine. We’ve had none in so long here. I am the last in my family without an Apple watch!

I don’t like it for running though.
A little sun but mostly rain last year. Hope your weather improves. Because it comes our way next.

Even though I use a Mac at work, I’m not an Apple gal at all. Can’t wait to hear about your races this year!

I use a PC at work but have a iPhone and Apple Watch.
Racing is exciting.

Your new Apple watch is so pretty! I think that you’ll love it. I made the switch from Garmin to Apple back in 2020 and I haven’t had any issues with my watch (knock on wood!)

I’ve had an Apple watch since 2016. And I do love it. But not for running. Still prefer Garmin.

Cannot wait to see all the Half Marathons you do this year! My first one (still debating as it’s a 5-hour drive away) is 18 March so I’ve started training. So far, it’s easy short runs which I’m enjoying! My long run this past Saturday was 6K and the one this coming Saturday will be 7K but then it goes up from there.

That’s what I do too. Increase my long run each week.
That’s a long drive. Is the hubby or friends running it too?
LikeLike
My hubby would run it too, kind of by force, as I hate driving long distances! It’s an inaugural race so it may also be quite disorganised but there are no other races on the calendar. At least none that have been announced yet. So I may hold off registering to see if any races in town come up.

Great job! I love my Apple Watch, but I wear both it and my Garmin for runs and races. It’s a problem lol. Excited to see how your running year goes!

I wear one or the other but I’m tempted to wear both.

Another productive week for you! I am amazed you can run during your lunch break. Actually, I am also jealous. Looking forward to reading about your races this year. Do you think one year you’ll run in Chicago?

I only can if I’m working from home. And not always. It’s a luxury.
I would love to run in Chicago. So yes! Blogger meet up?
