Weekly Run Down for 2.27.22-3.6.22: Down Time

Believe it not, I do not have a Half Marathon until April 16.  Yup, nada the whole month of March.

That doesn’t mean, there will not be long runs or races.  But the races will be of shorter distances. And the long runs may not be double digit ones.

That’s what I call “down time.”

Last Week:

  • Sunday – To recap things, today I ran a fun hilly half marathon in Central Park, NYC. It was cold, windy but the sun was shining and I shared the experience with fellow blogger, Cari, Almost didn’t mind the hills at all.

  • Monday – My legs felt great and I was tempted to #nevermissamonday but I was good and only went for a long walk.
  • Tuesday  – Back at it but only had time to run after work. I drove into town since I had errands to do afterward.

my lower back was achy from sitting at the computer for 8 hours but at least I got outside

  • Wednesday – Again I ran after work in town but ran in the opposite direction from the day before

felt a lot more peppy than the day before … less windy too…

  • Thursday – Decided to take a rest day because I had things to do after work (and may do a long run on Sunday rather than Saturday). And it was insanely windy!!
  • Friday – Normally today is my rest day but instead I was able to squeeze in a run in my neighborhood after work

love that the sunshine unfortunately the snowman has started to melt

And then, there was cleaning and hosting mahjongg at my house.

  • Saturday – Long Run Day! But I had signed up to Volunteer

(and promote the Freihofer 5k).

actually had a lot of fun.. connected with old friends (I used to teach at this school) and new friends and got a lot of women to sign up for the race

I had thought of running early with a friend (but her son came down with COVID so that was no longer an option) or solo in the afternoon.

With rain but 60s forecast for Sunday, I decided to hold off one day. Besides there’s always lots to do when you work all week.  .

  • Sunday – Yup a rainy morning but I did get out there and do my 8 mile long run once the rain stopped.  I drove to a bike path where we used run before winter.  It was clear in one direction and with a detour I was able to get all my miles done.  The weather was picture perfect.  Unfortunately I had to run alone. I missed my running buddies.

and yes I celebrated post run with ice cream and yes, I was over dressed. There were runners shirtless today. Check out that cute snowman on the bottom left.

This Coming Week on the Run–

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for March ’22

It’s that time of the month…

Lucky half marathon | Etsy

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am so over winter.

I was getting used to those frigid temps.

But I think going on a vacation to a warmer climate made it even worse.

NO LAYERS!!

Because then my body had to start all over!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after THREE half marathons in 5 weeks, I’m ready for a short break.

So of course, I signed up for races in March but shorter distances.  a 4 miler and a few 5 milers.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after my March break in half marathons, I’ll be back out there. I signed up for one in April and then one in May.

Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon

H2H HALF – 4/16/22

Steel Rail Races

STEEL RAIL HALF – 5/21/22

Half Marathons a month apart are perfectly spaced out in my book. Do you agree?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that speaking of half marathons, I did meet my 2:27 finish time goal (on my first try.).

NYRR Fred Lebow 2022

But I believe that I was mistaken about qualifying for the 2023 NYC Half Marathon.

There is NO longer time qualifying standards for the NYC half marathon. Now you have to complete 4 put of 6 qualifying races in 2022 or pay to run the 2022 virtual Half Marathon.

Boo!

But I will be 70 by the date of the 2023 NYC Marathon and the 2023 Brooklyn Half Marathon.  The Brooklyn Half appears to use the same standards as for qualifying for the marathon….

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that the least favorite part of my Florida race-cation was the race.

Yes, the race! And I love racing.

In this case, too much time was spent driving to and from the race (more than 3 hours each way). Originally I planned to visit my sister-in-law and niece but they had recently moved. And it was the only time during the vacation that it rained.

I enjoyed the weather, the friend meet-ups and all the other non-race activities. Next time, I will find a race nearby to my friends or skip it totally.

Update: I registered for:

Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

Who’s joining me? Cari? Jenny? Jenn?

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Are you anxious to get rid of those winter layers?  How much time do you leave between half marathons? Any shorter races on your schedule that you are looking forward to?  Do you usually plan a big race during your vacation? Please share.

TT: Spring Bucket List

I know I am early with this post. I may be jumping the gun so that spring will arrive early.

A runner can dream, right?

So here’s my list:

  • Scenic Hikes (ones WITHOUT frozen anything)

It’s to be nice to leave those spikes behind and climb those fire towers again.

  • Runs without Layers (and beanies and gloves)

Won’t we all feel lighter?

  • More Local Races

Not too many races are scheduled during the winter months where I live (and even fewer due to COVID). I had to travel to Florida and NYC to run winter half marathons.

  • Flowers Blooming

With that goes more daylight hours and sunshine.

  • Annual Tennis Vacation

It may be the only occasion where I now play tennis but I enjoy getting to spend time with my life long friends.

Happy Running!! What’s on your Spring Bucket List?   Are you anxious to see winter ending or do you enjoy running in colder temps? Please share.
