FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for March ’22

It’s that time of the month…

Lucky half marathon | Etsy

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am so over winter.

I was getting used to those frigid temps.

But I think going on a vacation to a warmer climate made it even worse.

NO LAYERS!!

Because then my body had to start all over!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after THREE half marathons in 5 weeks, I’m ready for a short break.

So of course, I signed up for races in March but shorter distances.  a 4 miler and a few 5 milers.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that after my March break in half marathons, I’ll be back out there. I signed up for one in April and then one in May.

Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon

H2H HALF – 4/16/22

Steel Rail Races

STEEL RAIL HALF – 5/21/22

Half Marathons a month apart are perfectly spaced out in my book. Do you agree?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that speaking of half marathons, I did meet my 2:27 finish time goal (on my first try.).

NYRR Fred Lebow 2022

But I believe that I was mistaken about qualifying for the 2023 NYC Half Marathon.

There is NO longer time qualifying standards for the NYC half marathon. Now you have to complete 4 put of 6 qualifying races in 2022 or pay to run the 2022 virtual Half Marathon.

Boo!

But I will be 70 by the date of the 2023 NYC Marathon and the 2023 Brooklyn Half Marathon.  The Brooklyn Half appears to use the same standards as for qualifying for the marathon….

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that the least favorite part of my Florida race-cation was the race.

Yes, the race! And I love racing.

In this case, too much time was spent driving to and from the race (more than 3 hours each way). Originally I planned to visit my sister-in-law and niece but they had recently moved. And it was the only time during the vacation that it rained.

I enjoyed the weather, the friend meet-ups and all the other non-race activities. Next time, I will find a race nearby to my friends or skip it totally.

Update: I registered for:

Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

Who’s joining me? Cari? Jenny? Jenn?

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Are you anxious to get rid of those winter layers?  How much time do you leave between half marathons? Any shorter races on your schedule that you are looking forward to?  Do you usually plan a big race during your vacation? Please share.

  1. I would agree with you that sometimes going away to a warmer place in winter can make it tougher to deal with the cold when you return home! I haven’t been to Florida since that brief trip in 2020, right before the pandemic blew up. I miss the beach, that’s for sure!

    • I have gone without a race. My trip is to visit my friends and escape winter. But as I posted I registered for one nearby for next Feb.

Instead of nyc I may just try for Brooklyn since I’ll be 70 for that race and can use my time.

  2. I really wish we could spend a month in FL like we did last year. Once you get a taste of winter avoidance, you realize just how much winter sucks. Haha! I agree a 6 hour round trip to race would be a deal breaker for me.

    • I know. I didn’t want to leave Florida because I knew what I was returning to.

Next year I’m running a race 30 minutes away.

  3. That mug is so you! Congrats on all your halves and on meeting your time goal — even if it’s not the golden ticket you wanted.

I had great weather in Dallas this week — upper 70s — and came home to the 20s this morning!

  4. Coming back to Iowa definitely was a buzzkill, especially since February seems to treat us to even colder weather than January (at least in recent years). I have a St. Patrick’s race coming up, and it’s for an oddball distance (there’s a 4K or a 6K option)…is that a trend? I seem to see a lot of 4-milers happening…

  5. I’ll do the Ft Lauderdale half with you next year! It would be fun. Did you already register?
I like how your idea of “taking a break” is doing three or four races in March.
I hope you get some spring weather soon!

    • Yay! I did because I wanted that cheap price. You can defer for free.

A break is NO half marathon hence no long runs!!

      9 degrees this am… ugh!

  6. I think there will be time qualifier for 2023 NYC Half – if they didn’t have it this year, it may be b/c too many people were registered from deferrals. I hope so at least. I’m trying to requalify for next year. I did 2 halfs in Feb and have one in March, too.

  7. I can only imagine how hard it was to reacclimate to winter temps once you went to FL. I’m so over all the layers!

That’s a bummer about NYC doing away with the time qualification. Has the lottery option gone the way of the wind? This race is still on my bucket list.

And yes – perfect mug for you 🙂

    • There’s still a lottery. I never get in. I’ve been told that you have a better chance if you are from outside NYS. You should try next year.

  8. I also find it harder to go someplace warm in the winter only to return to the cold and like you said start over again with getting used to the cold weather. I’ve always liked the idea of spending 6 weeks somewhere warm in Jan. and Feb. but I have a job I need to go into and can’t work remotely so that would never work for me.
I’ve run two half marathons three weeks apart but that’s the most I’ve done so close to one another.
