It’s that time of the month…
to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.
1.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I ran my LAST virtual half marathon.
I had already signed up the real half marathons in March, April and May. But as you know, they were all cancelled.
I would be getting the swag so I felt like I should actually run them. I did not race them but just ran/walked that distance alone on three different routes.
- NYC HM
- 2020 – Virtual H2H HM
- 2020 Virtual Steel Rail HM
I am DONE. I hope the next half marathon is a REAL one.
Did you run any long races that were cancelled virtually?
2.Over coffee…
I’d tell you before I was working from home, I would run after work for 3 miles. Some days I did not run at all.
Now being at home everyday, I have been on most days running before work, walking at lunch and then hiking after work.
So I have gone from 0-3 miles a day to 6-10 miles a day.
- 7 am
- 12 pm
- 5 pm
Of course that will end…mostly likely when I return to the office in the fall.
Have you increased your mileage during the pandemic?
3.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I have started seeing my friends. After 10 weeks of self-isolation, we have decided to see each other…safely, of course.
- tennis friends
- running friends
- boating friends
Have you relaxed your social distancing yet?
4.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I mentioned that I finally got a shot for my painful foot. The pain went away immediately. Though it appears that it does rear its ugly head from time to time. Still!!
Anyone else experience intermittent pains?
5.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that there’s no shame in walking. To prove it, I had one of my slowest 5ks and even posted my time.
I believe this race last year may have been the last time that I ran FAST. After that, there was marathon training, foot pain, then pandemic.
Do you RACE your virtual races? Have you lost speed by not racing?
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.
Happy Running! Got anything to spill? Share it here!
Great job on the increased running, walking and hiking. It’s nice to get away from the desk!
27:47 is not slow! How much of it did you walk? Now I’m thinking you walked half of it and did the rest at an Elihud Kipchoge speed.

No that was last year!! This year it was about 10 min slower lol.

Despite being signed up for NO races since Bermuda this year, my mileage has definitely increased. Running is one of the few things I feel like I can control right now. Honestly I couldn’t care less about how fast or slow I am anymore. How fun to see friends! We really haven’t relaxed our distance here yet.

I don’t care as well. That’s why I don’t wear a watch.
Yes running is great for everyone at this time. Keeps us sane.

There is no shame in walking and I’ve done a lot of it lately. My running miles have decreased but I am walking more and cycling more. I need to get back to running more but this humidity won’t help. I am going biking w a friend today so excited to be doing something normal. Had socially distanced cocktails last night w friend for her birthday. Feels good to see people in person! Thanks for linking up today have a good weekend

I am definitely walking more miles than I am running which is fine since there are no races in sight.
Isn’t great to see people again..in the flesh not just through ZOOM?

If one positive thing comes out of this pandemic, it’s that so many more people are getting outside to walk – and run, but hey, runners were always running. Sounds like you are loving all of your extra outside activity!

I agree. More people are getting outside. They realize that it is safer outdoors but it is also healthier. I hope that continues after this is over.

You know most of my answers.
My freihofers wasn’t a race, I never planned to really race it, but it wasn’t just a casual run either. Somewhere in between.
Thankfully most pains I’ve had while running, so far, knock on wood, I’ve been able to work out (eventually).

right now, my foot feels fine but you never know. I think 22 years of standing all day in pretty shoes was more harmful to my feet than running lol

I ran one half virtually when the real race was canceled – the Asheville half. I did not like it at all. Virtual 5Ks are one thing but virtual half marathons – no. My mileage has increased too, mostly because my hubby wants to run almost every day just for something to do. I need more rest days but I feel guilty when he heads out the door, so I go with him. I walk in most of my races – even the real-life 5Ks.

Same here.. not much else to do so I walk or run – that’s my entertainment.

Since I’m training for a trail race, I’m not at all concerned about my paces. I end up doing a lot of walking because of the trail conditions. It’s really kind of nice, especially with the heat and humidity. Like you, I am running more. I’m enjoying it all right now.

Yes it’s so nice not worrying about pace and just happy to be able to run.

My Freihofer’s finish time was painfully “slow” for me, but I don’t care. It was the day following a somewhat speedy 5K and my legs were kinda shot. So far, I’ve done two half marathons by virtual. One was for a race that was cancelled, the other I ran it on the original date of the race (which has not yet announced the postponed date).

You are still a racing machine 🙂

I’ve had one race that postponed the race until November and I’m going then. The half marathon I was supposed to run in June pushed it back to August, but I’m not going (and hadn’t signed up for it). I’m still waiting to hear about the race in September. So, no virtual races for me. I have been running more than ever, though. Like you, I also used to run after work and since I’ve been working from home can run in the morning. That part of being home has been nice!

Sam here. I can run before work and during lunch. Never did before. Figures crossed that we can actually race again!!

Great news on the shot helping with the pain! And that’s an impressive increase in mileage :).

I wish I didn’t wait so long for the shot.
The mileage isn’t that way every day but it definitely higher than before.

Walking miles mostly. Not running.
I hope the pain stays away. We’ll see.

We all know why I lost speed, LOL!
I will start seeing friends this week. We have been seeing our neighbors, outside, almost constantly, but socializing will start to happen. And then we will just see how it goes.

Congrats on finishing your last half! I hope the next one you run gets to be a real one too. I’m glad the shot helped for your foot too!
I really need to work on getting back into a consistent workout schedule of some kind.

Thanks. It’s hard to be consistent. Good luck.

That’s a lot of miles! I’m running a bit more, but not that much more. I ran into one friend accidentally but haven’t seen anyone else except family. I’m trying to play by the rules and we are still supposed to stay apart.

Most of my miles are walking. I’m ok with that.

I think my last “fast” race was the mini, which would have been this weekend? I came close to or PRed. Boo on your stupid foot

That’s great all of the miles you are racking up! I have to admit my running mileage is down, but I’m walking a lot more. I’ve just kinda lost my running mojo a little.
Congrats on your virtual half marathons!
I’ve started to see friends for walks but no real social “outings” yet – still, it’s been nice to see people in person and not just via Zoom.

I agree. Zoom got old. Face to face us do much better

Awesome job on the virtual half marathons! You’re really racking up the miles.
I still haven’t seen any friends in person yet but I think that by next month I might be able to meet up with my weekend running group.

I hope your group does start. It makes a difference in motivation.
Most of my miles are from walking which is ok. No races on tap.
