Since it’s Tuesday, I’m joining the link-up organized by Zenaida and Kim (Kooky Runner)
My Topic today is: GOALS 2020
If you read my blog, you may remember that my goal for 2020 was to run ONE half marathon EACH MONTH.
I actually ran January and February’s races.
- Fred Lebow (in NYC)
- ZOOMA Half (in Bermuda)
Then this pandemic!! My March’s was cancelled and April and May’s have been postponed. I actually did not sign up for one in June. All were completed as virtual races (completed is a loose term meaning I did the distance.)
- NYC HM
- 2020 – Virtual H2H HM
- 2020 Virtual Steel Rail HM
I decided to add a new goal in April:
Visit ALL the LOCAL 25 NEW NATURE TRAILS.
There are many nature preserves just in my local area. So far, I have visited 21.
- Fox Preserve
- Normans Kill Preserve West
- Normans Kill Preserve East
- Van Dyke Preserve
- Phillipin Kill Preserve
- Tivoli Lake Preserve
- Swift Preserve
- Scheffendecker Preserve
- Staalesen Vanderhyden Preserve
- Mon-He-Con Nuck Preserve
- Papscanee Island Preserve
- Bozenkill Preserve
- Hannacroix Creek Preserve
- Huyck Preserve
- Hannacroix Ravine Preserve
- Keleher Preserve
- Bennett Hill Preserve
- Ann Lee Pond Preserve
- Wolf Creek Preserve
- Ashford Glen Preserve
- Lishakill Preserve
In addition to these preserves, there are many parks with trails, waterfalls, arboretums, and nature sanctuaries. Plenty to choose from. I have visited 10 already.
- Five Rivers Environmental Center
- Peebles Island State Park
- Elm Ave Park Fit Trails
- Pine Hollow Arboretum
- Hollyhock Hollow Sanctuary
- Stevens Farm
- Renss. Tech Park Falls
- Artist Falls
- 6 Mile Waterworks
- Tawasentha Park Trails
Definitely one of the positives that has come out of the pandemic. Normally I would be training and running with friends. For my job, I would be traveling.
I discovered places that were nearby and many of them have many trails so they were visited more than once.
And It’s only June 1 and I’ve already surpassed my Nature Trail goal. We are still in the midst of a pandemic.
Let’s see how many I can visit before the end of 2020!!!! 50??
I want to re-visit the early ones because of the increased greenery and of course, again the fall to see all the autumn colors.
You should follow me and view the gazillion pics through my IG posts (@dsc59).

I had a very similar goal: do one race a month. I had done four until the end of March.
Now I’m doing weekly half-marathons – but at a relaxed pace, definitely not racing them.
I love your new goal!! And the gazillion photos!
I’m a big fan of forests and nature. Yes, why not make it 50 by the end of the year?!

Yes I should change to 50. I’m hoping I get back to work but who knows.
Weekly half marathons? Wow! I’m trying to stay half ready for August and run 8-10 miles on the weekend.

I agree. I need the distraction of different scenery everyday and I feel safe out there.

You’re lucky to have so many trails and preserves so close by. I am SO jealous! Do your legs feel stronger from all the walking? A lot of different muscles are used for walking, so it’s an awesome compliment to running 😉

I’m not sure if they feel stronger. But I have so much more energy when I move more.

Oh! These trails are going to be fire in the fall! I can’t believe all the gorgeous colors you will see! One of these days, we would love to go to the mountains for the sole purpose of seeing the colored leaves. One day.

50 sounds like a good goal. Right now I am revisiting some because my friend wants to hike. So I may not do many new ones.
