Good News and Bad News
This past weekend was the Philly Marathon. My running friend Mary was running it as HER FIRST MARATHON!! We have a lot in common & have run many races together. She ran the Stockade-athon the week before & had a terrible run. So I was a little worried. But…she did it!!! And she did great!!! I met her for coffee yesterday to hear all about it. Her excitement almost makes me want to do one…I said almost!!!
Now the not so good news: 2 runners died during this race. One was from my area. Read the story here.
He was only 40. He was an experienced marathon runner. He even had completed 3 Ironman races (including the one in Lake Placid this past July). I know they said he died doing something he loved but it is still so sad esp for his family and friends…
Happy Running! Do you ever worry that running is dangerous?
The Former 5K Racer
My first year of running, I ran about 13 5K races, my second year, 17 and my third over 20!! I went from finishing in 37 minutes to finishing in 27 minutes!!
Year Four: two 4 mile races, a 5 mile race, a 15K race and 5 Half Marathons!
Since June, I have run only one 5k and I struggled to finish under 30 minutes!!!
I feel like I am no longer a 5K racer!!!
That being said, I have signed up for three 5K races before the end of the year! Nov 24, Nov 26 and Dec 17.
So what is my goal for my 5Ks?
- Have fun!
- Finish under 30 minutes!
- Get faster with each one…
Happy Running! How do you choose between distance and speed? Can you do both?
Last Week in Review & Turkey Raffle Run
Reunion & Running Weekend
One of the best years of my life was my junior year of college. I got to spend the year studying French at the University of Nice, travel around Europe and make some extraordinary friendships.
7 of us have managed to keep in touch but we haven’t all been in one place since then. Again Facebook helped us plan a brunch reunion in NYC.
So yesterday I took the Megabus from Albany to NYC. $10 & free wifi. You can’t beat that. After a stop at Starbucks, I took a leisurely walk to the restaurant.
We ate, drank, looked at old photos, but mostly reminisced and laughed at how crazy we were in college.
Believe it or not, we were at the restaurant for over 4 hours!
This morning was HMRRC’s One Hour Turkey RaffAL Run. You get to run for an hour and every time you pass the start, you get a raffle ticket. It was a nice day… a little cool and breezy but I thought it sounded like fun.
I got there and bumped into running/blogging friends Amanda & Suzy. It was nice to see a familiar face. It was pretty crowded ..many more runners than I had expected.
We ran the first 4 laps together. It was at a comfortable pace & I ran without stopping which on my own I might not have done.
For the 5th lap, Suzy decided to walk & Amanda ran ahead. I ran most of it but at a slower pace than the 1st 4.
When I was done, I ran back to my car to get the jacket & glove I had tossed. It got chilly waiting for the raffle prize winners to be announced.
They raffled away turkeys, pies, cakes, wine and all sorts of stuff. We did not win anything!!! 😦
Oh well. It was fun. I got the miles in. Maybe next year, I’ll have better luck.
Happy Running! Did you have a nice weekend?
Morning Runner Wannabe
With the time change, it seems logical to run in the morning before work. I love the way it feels to start the day with a run. I hate to have to run in the dark…and it’s always dark when I get out of work.
But this week, I’ve run TWICE after work!! Duh!
Why can’t I motivate myself to get out of bed???
Well, today I did it!!! It was cold. I even saw snowflakes. But it was a great way to start the day!!
However, I know next week, I will have the same problem…
Happy Running! Anyone else have a problem getting up early enough to run?
