Plan B

Red Rock Bay #18

Plan A:

Three days on Lake George at Red Rock Bay #18.  Swimming, boating, bbqing with friends.

View from Sagamore running route

Running around the Sagamore in the morning before heading back to the island.

Well, the forecast for ALL 3 days was showers and thunderstorms!!!!!!!!! Normally we ignore the weather reports and do our own thing. For some reason, we listened to them!! And they were wrong!!

Plan B:

Spent Saturday with my tennis buddies on Schroon River.

No it did not rain.  My poor hubby had stayed home.

On Sunday, I got up early and ran a sucky 3 miles in my scenic neighborhood (NOT).  My heel felt fine, but the HUMIDITY almost killed me.

Then we headed up to the marina.  We didn’t take the boat out because we thought it would rain. I walked around beautiful Bolton Landing waiting for our friends to arrive.

When our friends arrived, we had a nice barbecue on the deck of our marina. Then on our way home, we stopped for ice cream (I know I said I would give it up) and to play miniature golf.

one of my better putts

No it did not rain.

So today again the forecast is for rain which I have yet to see.  I am obviously blogging, doing laundry, weeding and eventually plan to maybe go shopping and/or see a movie. (I’d love to run but I am obeying PT Guy #1.)

Happy Running!

Two for Tuesday

  1.  I won another giveaway – some GU – YAY!  I really like the Gels (esp Vanilla).  I always take them during my long runs. I even took one before my 5k on Sunday.
  2. Does this weather look familiar?  I see treadmill in my future!!!!!!!! And yes, rain is predicted for Sunday – my next 5k!

Happy Running! Enough of the showers…bring on the May flowers!

Two for Tuesday

1. Yesterday morning I slept in so I had no choice but to run after work. I always bring outdoor running clothes & indoor running clothes (it is very hot where the treadmill is located.) It was cloudy not raining so I changed to run outside.  I got outside and it started to rain so I went back in and changed my clothes. Believe it or not, they rearranged the stage in the gym for an event and the treadmill was gone 😦  So I changed back and went outside to run in the RAIN.  I have never run in the rain (I am a wimp!) but it was only sprinkling and I ran a quick 3 miles before it started to pour. Phew! Then I was off to play tennis (indoors).

2. Yesterday’s Boston Marathon was very motivating.  I am so happy that everyone I knew did well. I am in awe of the women runners esp. Kara & Joan.

Saturday is not looking good – According to weather.com, I may be running in the rain again…

Even worse, Accuweather has predicted HIGH WINDS. (They are wicked along the lake, too)

Happy Running! Praying for a calm dry Saturday!

April Showers

I’m not a gardener!  I am a runner!

I rained Monday!  Ok, I was tired from Sunday’s long run anyway.

It rained all day on Tuesday. But when I got out of work, it miraculously stopped. It was windy & cold but stayed dry while I ran 5 miles!

Yesterday, it started out sunny and then clouded up. Rain was predicted for 6 pm.  So I rushed out to run 3 miles before yoga.  It was  a little warmer but still breezy.

Today is my REST day and of course, it is SUNNY

Tomorrow I mixed things up.  I took the day off to do my 12 mile long run. (If it rains, my back up plan is to run 7 miles after my 5 mile race on Sunday).

Does anyone take the day off from work to run??

My First Marathon

Gotcha!

It’s Virtual and I have from March 14-March 26, 2011 to run 26.2 miles. I think I can do that….

After 3 days off (but 3 days of playing tennis), I ran today.  The Daylight Savings Time is killing me because when I have after work commitments, it is too dark in the morning to  run outside.  Today it was raining, too.

So off to the gym to run 3 miles on the treadmill (23.2 to go).  The Good Wife is on hiatus so my new favorite show is Fairly Legal.

Happy Running!

Just Felt Like Running Virtual 5k

I signed up for Detroit Runner’s Virtual 5k which was supposed to be run on Saturday, March 5.  Saturday I did my long run and then Monday I ran 4 miles on the treadmill.

So yesterday I ran my 5K race.

I was tired of the treadmill at the gym so I braved the 14 degree temps at 7 am in the morning. I dressed in my usual winter layers and hoped that the roads wouldn’t be too icy.

They weren’t  – just here and there you had to slow down and walk over the icy patches.

Ever since October when I started training for my first half marathon, my pace has slowed to a crawl – sometimes over 12 min/mile. Always over 11 min.  That’s OK for long runs but not for a 5K.

Even when I was training for 5ks, my runs were slower than my actual race pace. I can’t seem to motivate myself to not stop when I get tired. In a race, I can push myself because I am very competitive.

So on this cold morning, with teary eyes and runny nose, I finished at 32:19. Not even close to my 27:20 PR but under 11 min/mi is a good run for me these days.  (The last mile was 10:15)

Today it was raining!! I stayed after work and used the treadmill.  For the first time!! Yes, we have 2 treadmills at work.  They are on the stage in the gym.  Lucky the curtain is closed.  It is dark and there are no TVS and no people.  Kinda creepy.  I watched an episode on “The Good Wife” on my iPod and ran my usual SLOOOOOW 3 miles.

Tomorrow is a REST DAY!  I have a race on Saturday — Runnin of the Green – 4 miles. A new race for me!! I’m excited!

Happy Running!

Sunday is not Sun Day

I’ve lost track of how many times we’ve seen this show but Saturday night my hubby & I enjoyed it as much as the first time.

My running schedule called for a long run on today but the weather forecast was 90% chance of heavy rain.

So although I went to bed late, had several glasses of wine while playing Mah Jongg Friday evening, I decided I’d better do my 9 mile run on Saturday.

I’m not going to beat myself up too badly but it was probably my worst run ever!! It was windy, humid and threatening rain.  I felt like quitting after 2 miles.  Nothing hurt.  I just couldn’t get going.  I walked A LOT!  I willed myself to finish the 9 miles and actually my last mile was the fastest.

I’m glad I did it.  It is cloudy and drizzling now.  Plans for this rainy day include:  laundry, cleaning, nails, grocery shopping  and helping a friend set up her new computer.

Happy Running!

Rain, then Snow..What’s a Runner to do?

I must report I suffered NO ills effects from my 10 miler.  I felt fine on Sunday! YAY!

Sunday was my REST day & I went to our annual Mentors & Mom Holiday Party. (I was so lucky that I did my long run on Saturday since I rained all day Sunday.)

Amanda & Richard by the tree

Moms all made fleece blankets for their kids

Monday I woke up to POURING RAIN!!!  I’m a wimp.  Off to the gym I went and I ran 3 miles on the TREADMILL.  It took my one whole episode of THE GOOD WIFE! (That’s 43 min!!)

Last night, I took Amanda & Richard to Holiday Lights in the Park (Today Richard turns 4!)

I will run a 5K here Saturday night

Richard admires the tree

then gets his face painted as "Spiderman"

We decided to forgo Santa (It was $8 and last year, he wouldn’t sit on his lap!!)

Today, I woke up to SNOW!! Not a lot but enough to make it slippery.  I wasn’t planning on running until tomorrow anyway.

So what are my running plans for the rest of the week???

Tomorrow if possible, I want to run outside before work. (If it is very slippery, I’ll go to the gym).  Thursday, I want to run a little longer and hope to run on the sidewalks around where I work.  Saturday night is the Albany Last Run in the Park – no PR goals if it is slippery. Sunday will be a long run!

Happy Running! Don’t forget about my Marathon Giveaway!

3 Things Thursday

  1.           I found this quote in the December FleetFeet newsletter:
  2. “You’ve got to have goals in life or you wither away.
It’s no disgrace to fail, only not to try.”  – — Jon Mendes Age 90, on his plan to run/walk the 2010 NYC Marathon

    Need I say more…

  3. I definitely HATE the treadmillIt’s so stuffy in the gym and I run so slow, it takes forever.  I also am not motivated to not walk when I get tired.  SO my plan is to get up early and run outside before work.  But if I can’t (or it rains like yesteray), I’ll have to do the dreadmill after work.
  4. Tomorrow is a rest day because I have a 5K on Saturday – the Jingle Bell Run which I did last year.  It’s The Happy Runner’s return to running after having a baby – YAY!  The problem is that I signed up before I was training for a half.  What do I do?  Do the 5k and then add 6 more miles??

Happy Running! It’s snowing on my Blog!
