Ultimate Coffee Date for October 2026

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

1.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am going to NYC for work TWICE this month. I’m just a sub so I do not get scheduled there very often.

So when I do, I hope to run in Central Park,

See a Broadway show (or 2):

And even squeeze in a dinner meet-up:

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that when we first starting planning race-cations, everyone in the group ran a half marathon…

back in 2017

Each year, fewer and fewer complete the distance.

In fact, this year I was the ONLY one to run the half marathon.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that next year our group will be even smaller. For various reasons only THREE out the ten are able to go.

the diehards

4.Over coffee…

I’ve already started my search for a fall half marathon in the NE:

    • Surftown Half Marathon & 5k (Westerly , RI) – Sept 12, 2027
    • Apple Harvest Ramble Half Marathon and 5K – (Harvard, MA) – Sept 26, 2027.
    • PortRun Half Marathon and 5k (Newburyport, MA) – Sept 26, 2027
    • SoNo Half Marathon & 5k (Norwalk, CT) – Oct 3, 2027

I think it maybe Surftown… and it will obviously be easier to find a place rent for 3 instead of 10 but I will really miss our big group.

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that again this year, I may have become pumpkin-obsessed.

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Do you like pumpkin-flavored foods? Have  you been to NYC recently? Any recommendations for a half marathon in the NE?  Please share.

  1. You know, I do like pumpkin and “pumpkin spice” flavors but I don’t but too many pumpkin products. The waffles and pop-tarts look good!

Bummer that your racecation group is dwindling, but it’s amazing that you’ve kept it going for so long.

  2. Darlene, I think you will need to recruit the next generation for your race-cation running group! Maybe some out of your STEM running group would be interested?
Well done for belonging to the die-hard core group!

  3. my original group of large runners definitely has diminished. I am no longer running and I think maybe just 2 of the original group is. No one is racing anymore. We are still besties! It is always fun to visit NYC this time of the year!

  4. You’ve got a great assortment of pumpkin items in your cart! I’ve been baking pumpkin sourdough (which is wildly popular) but I haven’t purchased anything other than pumpkin puree yet. It’s a bummer your running group is dwindling but it’s the nature of the beast, I guess.

    Have fun in NYC!

  5. Oh wow, you DO like pumpkin flavored things! That’s awesome! I like pumpkin breads/muffins, but that’s about it. Now if we were talking about chocolate and mint… 😉

I haven’t been to NYC in several years. Last time was when our son and daughter-in-law lived in NJ. We had a great day exploring the city, and prior to that, our previous trip was for the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour which was a ton of fun!

  6. I need a trip to Trader Joe’s so badly! And, I like those pumpkin spice Gu’s but I haven’t found any yet this year. I also need a trip to REI.

Have fun in NYC! I haven’t been there for a LONG time. And why are only three friends going on the next racecation? That’s kind of a bummer but I’m sure you’ll have fun.

  7. Kudos to you for still running half marathons!

Is pumpkin flavoured really pumpkin flavoured? Or is it pumpkin spice, which as I understand it is what we call Christmas spices? Pumpkin on its own seems so bland to me!

    • You know how I fell about mint.

My friends think SoNo is too small. So you’re running alone. My group has shrunk from 10 to 3 so it might not happen.
