TT: Reversing the 5k Slide

I’ve  heard them say “You’re not getting older, you’re getting better.”

That is not the case this year for me with the 5k distance.

Can I reverse the trend?

Last Year:

I don’t intend to go for a PR but just halt the slow down a bit and finish closer to last year’s 5k times.

I have a few more chances.

Wish me luck!

  • 09-05-26 –  Silks and Satins 5k
  • 10-03-26 – Barn to Bridge 5k
  • 10-24-26 – Summer Smith Memorial 5k

Interestingly, someone recently posted this:

I guess at my age, this acceleration is pretty fast…

but as the image says: “Expect the trend but do not surrender to it.”

I like the advice: “Lift things, run often and resist becoming ornamental.”

Happy Running! Have you slowed down? Does it bother you? Please share.

  1. Oh great. So my rate of decline is going to be even faster now? That’s cheery. Yes I have definitely slowed down!!! I blame it on the factors mentioned here, combined with lack of speedwork. Every single time I start doing speedwork, something happens. This time it’s a sore hip. I can run, but am afraid to do speed, so now I’m back to my turtle pace.

My slower pace doesn’t bother me too much, because I’ve switched over to ultras. If my focus were still on road races, I think it would bother me a lot.

I’m rooting for you to reverse the trend!

  2. Not to pour salt into anyone’s wounds…it’s deceleration, lol, not acceleration. Not that it matters. I’m really hanging on by a thread, but am slowing down. It’s hard to see it happen…
