Weekly Run Down for 3.1.26-3.8.26: Let March and Racing Begin…

Yesterday I ran my first March race and it will be followed by half marathons on the next two weekends…

But I’m mostly looking forward to spring temps and our snow melting.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I started the day at the gym…

Then met a friend for lunch..

we had food in addition to those delicious martinis…

  • Monday – WFH all week… YAY!

But today I had the DAY OFF!

Trying to get back into hiking and it’s been awhile.

I planned to get in an early run but with 6 degree temps, I went back to the gym instead.

We drove to the Berkshires. However due to the snowy conditions and cold weather, we did 3 short hikes, had lunch, walked around town and then ended the day at our favorite ice cream spot…

too cold to stay out on the trails long but not too cold for ice cream…

  • Tuesday – I had planned to do the run today that I skipped yesterday.  But I didn’t look at the forecast.. still cold with heavy SNOW!

followed by sleet and FREEZING rain!!

Even too hazardous to drive and walk in the mall.

  • Wednesday – Back to the gym before work…

and a run at UAlbany after work. Since I hadn’t run since Saturday, I decided to run one loop solo and then meet a friend to accompany her on a 2nd (slower) loop.

sun & 40 degrees!! heat wave!

  • Thursday – Another gym morning and my last run before the race.

Well, it RAINED all day.

Finally when I was done working, it seemed to have stopped so since I was meeting a friend at the mall to walk, I stopped off at UAlbany .

very gloomy and wet

I did get in a few miles before the sky opened up…

  • Friday- Just work.

Mah jongg was cancelled since most of the ladies were on vacation. So #flatme time and weather stalking for the next day.

  • Saturday – Electric City 10K.  I’ve run this race several  times before (it was originally a 5 miler) and unfortunately we’ve usually had the worst weather.

There were two of us running it (plus 1000+ other locals).  I carpooled with Deb and Barb (although they were injured and were only going to cheer). It poured on the drive over (which made me nervous since I wasn’t prepared for rain).

But it stopped. Phew. We parked in the parking garage and hung out on the Casino Lobby, socialized until the race began.

It was quite humid and not as windy as predicted so I was overdressed.

The course was slushy and full of puddles due the recent weather but no one fell and we both finished smiling.

As soon I was done, the skies opened up.  Lucky again to have a dry race.

Afterward, we met those friends who were not racing for brunch.

  • Sunday – I plan to head to the gym in the morning and in the evening, we have scheduled a goodbye party for one of running friends who is moving to Mass to be closer to her grandkids.

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday –  run
  • Tuesday – gym, walk
  • Wednesday – run
  • Thursday –  gym, dinner & Cap Rep play
  • Friday – run, pack, mah jongg
  • Saturday – train to NYC, expo, carb loading, etc…
  • Sunday – NYC Half Marathon, train home

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Electric City 10k Race Recap
  • Friday – 5 Ways To Get Race-Ready This Spring

Happy Running! Training for any big or small races?  Run any in 2026? How’s your winter weather? Any signs of spring yet? Please share.

Ultimate Coffee Date for March 2026

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

1.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that you probably know, I have THREE half marathons coming up;

    • 3-15– United NYC Half Marathon (Brooklyn Bridge addition)
    • 3-21- Asheville Half Marathon
    • 4-11 – Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon

Half Marathons #76, 77 and 78!!

I shouldn’t be nervous… but I am!!

They seem to get harder….

But using run-walk-run intervals has helped me get through ALL my training runs! Thank you Jeff!!

Galloway's Half Marathon Training: Use the Run Walk Run Method to Finish Every Race Strong: Galloway, Jeff: 9781782552208: Amazon.com: Books

such an inspiration to runners… he will be greatly missed!!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I’ve been experiencing niggles of late.

First it was my lower back. I went to the chiro but a week in Florida seemed to cure that.

When I went to PT, she said that my right SI joint was tight and she gave me exercises to do…

I ‘am going back to PT to complain that my left hip now has bothered me when I run…

It’s always something…

could this help???

3. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am sure everyone in the NE is complaining. We’ve had the worst winter to train for any Spring race.

cold, snow, wind… does this look fun?

I am so happy that I escaped for a week… no slippery roads, no jacket or gloves ❤

the cover of the Palm Beach Daily News!! the lady in “red” = me.  Feb. 14!

I have to also mention that my friend Jenny whom I run most of weekday runs with did complete the Tokyo marathon.

It was hot and sunny in Tokyo that day and unfortunately she and many others (even Sara Hall had to DNF) were not acclimated to this weather.

definitely wearing summer running clothes … (that’s NOT Jenny. LOL)

4..Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I and the Race Directors are probably hoping for better weather. So many races this winter had to be cancelled.

at least 4 NYRR races had to be cancelled…

So much money lost… medals and shirts all ready. (I didn’t pick mine up but many runners did.)

Will that affect race prices for future races?

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have a 10k tomorrow… Unfortunately every year, the weather is awful for this race…

And rain is predicted for tomorrow… (it could be worse, it’s not supposed to snow.)

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.

TT: Springing Forward…

Today’s Topic is: What does “springing forward” mean for your mindset this year?

I do love that this means winter is ending (soon?) and spring is on the way (even if it will take a while)…

and there will be:

  •  More Time and Places to Run After work.

As of March 8, we will gain an hour of daylight.

That means I will no longer have to run in the dark.

It adds for places that I can run.

Tired of this:

I want more of this:

  • More Racing:

Not many racing opportunities and even many of the ones that were scheduled had to be cancelled due to our horrible weather.

Tired of this:

01-25-26 – Winter Series #4 (15k) – Cancelled (too cold)
02-01-26 – Manhattan 10k*– Cancelled (too cold)
02-01-26– Re-Scheduled Winter Series #4 (15k) – DNS (too cold)
02-08-26 – Winter Series #5 (10m) – Cancelled (too cold)
02-15-26 – Re-Scheduled Winter Series #5 (10m) – DNS (on vacation)

I want more of this:

03-07-26 – Electric City 10k
03-15-26 – United NYC Half Marathon (Brooklyn Bridge addition)
03-21-26 – Asheville Half Marathon
04-11-26 – Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon
05-02-26 – Tropicool 5k
05-17-26 – Boilermaker’s Erie Canal Race (10 miler)
05-24-26 – Miles on the Mohawk (10 miler)

  • Better Racing Conditions:

No fun to run on snow and ice…

and with a zillion layer on…

Tired of this:

I want more of this:

  • More Hiking

I used to hike all winter and maybe enjoyed it?

But this year I lost my hiking mojo…

I plan to take some Mondays off and get back on the trails…

  • More Walking Added to my Fitness Routine.

With the winds and frigid temps, I just didn’t feel like bundling up.

I did walk in mall but oh so boring..

we did find this at the mall, though.

I will need to recruit some friends and/or walk at lunch…

water line right behind my house!!

Happy Running! What does “springing forward” mean for your mindset this year? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 2.22.26-3.1.26: Back to My Routine…

What Routine?

Trying to fit in my runs between the snowstorms, work and social engagements so I am able to complete the races I’ve signed up for…

  • Mar 7 – Electric City 10k
  • Mar 15 – NYC Half Marathon
  • Mar 21 – Asheville Half Marathon
  • Apr 11 – H2H Half Marathon

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I started the day at the gym…

Since a big snowstorm was predicted for tonight and tomorrow, I decided to squeeze in a run today…

and though it wasn’t supposed to yet, it was snowing during this run and stopped when we were done…

  • Monday – WFH all week…

Woke up to snow and it was still falling most of the day (and very windy). We didn’t get as much snow as NYC but everything was closed – No gym today.

it’s pretty but enough is enough…

After work, I visited my granddaughter… and then had a drink with a friend.

  • Tuesday I went to the gym before work and then at lunch I joined Jenny for her last run… she was leaving the next day for Tokyo.

sooo cold and WINDY!!

After work, my monthly tennis ladies meet up was scheduled.  This time, we went to someone’s house, ordered in dinner and did a craft activity.

we made Origami Dress cards

  • Wednesday – More snow.. but a busy work day so only a walk in the mall in the evening.

Remember my lower back pain?  I had made a PT appt before vacation. Guess what? It stopped hurting (while I was on vacation) but I decided to keep the appt. (tight  right SI joint and she gave me exercises to do and return  in a week..)

  • Thursday – A quick trip to the gym before work, a run during lunch in my ‘hood…

the sun was shining but with the breeze it felt colder than I thought…

and then after work, I had my monthly STEM board meeting… for the first time it was face to face instead of ZOOM.

  • Friday- A long work day with only mah jongg in the evening…
  • Saturday – Long Run and Brunch. 12 miles on my plan. Not a problem except that I was supposed to go to a retired teacher’s brunch at 10:30 am.  Could I squeeze it in???

Nope, I decided that it would be too stressful so I was going to postpone it until Sunday.

That I looked at the guest list and most of my teacher friends were unable to go, as well.

I contacted my local running friends and we agreed on a meet up followed by brunch. Long run done!!

it was well colder than I expected and the wind was insane… at least I had company for 8 out of the 12 miles… (started in the park on the left and then continued into the neighborhood on the irght)

I also started tracking my friend who is running the Tokyo marathon but she won’t finish until around 1:30 am…

  • Sunday – gym visit and then lunch with a friend…

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday –  OFF, run, hike/lunch day
  • Tuesday – run
  • Wednesday – gym, walk
  • Thursday – run
  • Friday –gym, mah jongg
  • Saturday – Electric City 10K
  • Sunday – gym, goodbye party for running friend

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Springing Ahead
  • Friday – Ultimate Coffee Date
