Tradition – I’ve run the Freihofer Run for Women every year since 2008 (my first year of running).
Last Week —
- Sunday – Miles On The Mohawk.
My day started with over sleeping due to a power outage but I did get to the start on time and finish a hot sunny 10 mile race.
I was glad to meet up with many runners that I knew and my running friends met me at the finish and we enjoyed a lovely brunch together.
- Monday – Memorial Day holiday and our first day boating in 2023. The weather was gorgeous and the day very relaxing.
- Tuesday – The weather was perfect for a early morning run but decided to go to the gym instead (I hadn’t been there in days) and squeeze in a run at lunch.
In the evening I was treated to a belated birthday dinner by my BFF.
- Wednesday – A busy work day so I again had to run in the heat.
After my run, I attended the FRW volunteer dinner.

It was fun meeting new people esp. those who were not runners but volunteer every year… and again no raffle prize wins!
- Thursday – I started the day with my FIRST early morning run (instead of the gym)…
and then after work, the first of the summer ARE trail run series was held. As I did last year, I walked the trails and then joined my friends for food/drink.
- Friday – A rest day.. starting out at the gym. If I don’t join, this would be my LAST DAY at the YMCA.
After work, I volunteered at packet pickup for Saturday’s race.
I met some old friends and made some new friends and they even had a nice dinner for us afterwards.
Then instead of mah jongg, I went home to prepare my outfit/gear for a predicted rainy race…
- Saturday – Freihofer Run for Women. This is my favorite race and my 16th time running it. Besides my finish time and the rainy weather, I loved everything about this event!!
- Sunday – Boating Sunday? Not likely as the weather has cooled down …
Hopefully dry enough to get in a hike and some weeding the garden.
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – run
- Tuesday – rest day, walk
- Wednesday – run
- Thursday – run, trail walk
- Friday – rest day, hair appt.
- Saturday – Long Run (7 miles)
- Sunday – rest day, boating?
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – Global Running Day
- Friday – Summer Running/Racing Plans

Love this race as you know.. Gym is over unless I join.

So are you going to join the gym???
I think you’re going to enjoy your new age group! It’s always nice to win something. And there’s a reason for age groups- it really does get harder the older we get, so kudos for being out there racing. I agree- it’s hard to complain about anything when you see someone in a wheelchair.
In the birthday dinner with your BFF- not sure if you’re wearing a dress or if it’s just a top- but I have a top that looks almost identical! I just wore it last night.

It was a jumpsuit. Very comfy.
Maybe on the gym.
And yes that’s the one perk of getting older.

As you know, my favorite annual race was this weekend as well. It’s great to have “that one race” that keeps us coming back, despite the not-so-ideal weather Momma N unleashes on us at times. Have you decided on joining the Y? It seems like you’ve enjoyed your gym time 😉

Yes. I look forward to it each year.
Not sure about the gym. $$

How fun to run one of your favorite races again, and congrats on your AG place (focus on that and not the PW). 😉

I will. It wasn’t bad considering my lack of speed work.

Did you get a box of cookies at the finish? I would do the race just for that, lol. Congrats on another year of participating!

I got two boxes at bib pick up. Yum.

Wow, I’d be so stressed oversleeping before a race — glad you made it! And yay on boating last weekend. And the Freirhofer race this weekend!
I’m with Wendy on being willing to do it for the cookies!

I don’t do it for the cookies but I do love this race.

It looks like you’ve had a great week with a lot of running. Congrats on 3rd in your age group!
Agreed on the wheelchair. We’re very blessed being able to use our legs. And when I sat waiting for the dr at the fracture clinic last week and saw people coming in with casts (including a little girl, perhaps 6 years old, in a wheelchair and full leg cast) I felt I was still quite fortunate, knowing I would get out of there with a boot.

When I sign up for a race, I know I need to get out for a run. I know others who don’t race and they run whenever…
and yes, you can walk with a boot and soon I bet you’ll be able to run.
I had a stress fracture in my foot in 2012 and not again since… fingers crossed.

I really struggle to walk with it! Maybe the PT can give some tips and tricks. But I’m happy enough that I can put weight on the foot and get around without straining the shoulders. As for running… after this horror show I’m not sure. I haven’t given up the thought of running and don’t want to say never again, but I want to be a lot stronger before attempting it again so I’ll focus on strength training until at least next spring. We’ll see. In the meantime I’ll enjoy reading all the race recaps from you folks.

I struggled to find a shoe that matched the height of the boot so it was awkward.
And yes it was scary because I was afraid that running caused it… but eventually I got over that fear. And it is way in my past.

A week full of activities!
Congrats on the podium. No matter the finish time, the most important thing is to enjoy the run. Long time ago (2006) I ran a half marathon and I left soon the ground because I thought that my finish time was not so good. The day after I received a call: “Stefano come to get your award, you won your a.g.”!

Yup… you are so right. The time doesn’t matter and I did enjoy it.

How lovely to have done that race every year for so long. I love your skirt, too, it reminds me of Bargello needlework! So glad to see you back so strong. I am being v good with my physio exercises and rehab runs though it’s a little frustrating still.
