It seemed like half marathon training just started and now, it’s only TWO weeks until my first fall half marathon on Labor weekend.
How did that happen? Where did the summer go??
Am I ready?
Yes, that pretty much sums it up. Maybe we will train seriously for the next one in Maine on October 2!
Last Week:
- Sunday – Race Day and Boating Sunday.
I started the day with a 5k and the weather was perfect (I was not perfect but still won 1st in my age group.)
The rest of the day was again spent on the lake… relaxing.
- Monday – I had skipped my 11 Long mile run in favor of a 5k race with old friends. So before meeting running friends (on a day off) for a hike, I got there early and ran 8 miles.

I normally don’t enjoy running alone but it was nice to run in a different place – one where I used to run but hadn’t in awhile.
Our first 3 mile walk was at Peebles Island State Park.
Then we had a lovely lunch followed by a 4 mile trail walk.
It turned out to be a very warm day so we had to end it with ice cream.
- Tuesday – Rest Day! But I did meet friend after work for a walk on the rail trail.
And then my BFF for walk #2 around an outdoor mall.
- Wednesday – Back out there for a pre-work run in the neighborhood.
I woke up to rain and so I went back to bed. Then I woke up and it was NOT raining. I quickly got dressed and headed out the door.

the temps were nice but not the humidity! If you look closely you’d see that my shirt was on backwards. lol
I made the right decision since it was pouring by the time I finished work.
My plans to re-visit the sunflower fields got postponed. The colored ones were supposed have bloomed too.
- Thursday – Another early morning run… in my foggy neighborhood.
After work, we met for an ARE-sponsored trail run at Thacher Park.
- Friday – Another Rest Day. Busy work day but mah jongg in the evening to unwind.
- Saturday – Long Run Saturday. 12 miles!! And I did it thanks for the help of my awesome friends!
I also took a long ride back to the sunflower field.
And then I went out to dinner with friends of a friend. The guy is from France (the brother of the lady I stayed with in Sanguinet) and used to also be a marathon runner.
- Sunday – Boating Sunday.
Another warm sunny day for relaxing and floating and reading…

I can’t believe Labor Day is in 2 weeks! Eeek! Where has summer gone? Looks like a nice week for you. It has definitely cooled off a bit here, although now that I said that, it’ll probably warm up again. I’m loving the cooler nights! Those sunflowers are gorgeous!

I just love sunflower but such a short season (like summer).
It’s hot again today!! Off to the lake!

I just loved that collage of all the pinks–one of my favorite colors. I haven’t gotten to see the sunflowers yet. I’ve probably missed them by now.
Enjoy your time on the lake today!

I plan to enoy the water today… it will be over before you knowit.
Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. This place plants many fields that blooms at different times. (so I may go back one more time) This is the first time I’ve seen the colored one… pink is my favorite too.

The sunflowers are so pretty! I think you are training with all these long runs every weekend. I am excited for Maine but not as trained as I had hoped

I’ve been running. Just not seriously. I’m good with that.

Sunflowers. Ugh. One year I need to get up there for that.
I forgot about your Labor Day race and was super confused by your hay is in the barn post yesterday thinking you were way early for Maine.
Nice matching of the flowers as well as “my” shirt on Thursday.

Sunflowers are worth a trip.

I love all those sunflowers! So many varieties! Yeah, it just dawned on me (this week) that Labor Day is right around the corner…how did THAT happen?

I know. The summer went by so quickly.
This is the first time I’ve seen colored sunflowers

I think you’ll be ready for your race. You may not set a PR (I’m sure that’s not your goal) but you’ll complete the distance and have fun. Maybe you haven’t been training “seriously” but you are very, very consistent and there’s a lot to be said for that.
I love all the photos! Unlike most people, I’m looking forward to fall. It won’t look much different here, but I’m excited to see everyone’s fall photos with the leaves changing. Enjoy your day at the lake!

The color here in the fall is pretty. I hope our dry summer won’t negatively affect it.

Summer brings pretty flowers. At least at other people’s houses. Lol.
Thanks. Two weeks to go yet.

We both had hibiscus flowers with raindrops on them LOL! Much easier to walk that trail than try to run it — it was kind of frustrating. I don’t remember it being quite that bad the last time I ran it.

Same trail. Most likely muddier. Trails are a challenge. No crime in walking a race. At least you didn’t break something. When I fall it’s messy.

Nope, no mud. In the past there’s been a lot but bone dry. Yes I’m definitely happy I didn’t break anything too! I didn’t walk the entire thing but I knew given the conditions today better to take it easy.

Yes, I think you are ready! Especially after that 12-miler. Love the sunflowers. The maroon ones are striking!

I know. The summer went by so quickly.
I’m ready to finish the half. Not ready to run it well. And I’m ok with that.

I still can’t believe that Labor Day is only 2 weeks away. I’m also starting to see school buses out on the road again so it’s definitely back to school time as well. The summer did go by quickly.
Love the photos of the sunflowers – behind tulips, those are my favorite flowers.

Summer sped by. Sigh.

I love all of the flower photos- so pretty! We finally had a break in the weather so it’s “only” been in the 80’s for the highs but it’s so much better than 90’s so I’ll take it.

We now have very humid weather. And you never know when and if it will rain.

Those races just sneak up on your sometimes. If you just ran a 12-miler, you are definitely ready for the distance at least. I love all the pictures. Looks beautiful.

I guess I’m ready. Though it doesn’t feel like it.

Where in Maine is your half marathon? We’ll be in Bar Harbor, Maine starting on October 3rd. We’re bringing our gravel bikes and hope to do a lot of cycling and hiking.
Those colored sunflowers are stunning! I think they’re prettier than traditional sunflowers.

The race is in Portland. Deborah B. is running the race too on Sunday. We are staying in Old Orchard Beach until Tues. Maybe you can stop by on the way.. Bar Harbor is supposed to be beautiful.
