March 17, in addition to being St. Patrick’s Day was my ONE year anniversary of working from home.
Spring also officially began. Still waiting to see those blooms… And for those temperatures to rise!!!
But I am loving the extra hour of daylight. Let the after work hikes begin….
And so I completed another milestone in my 52 Hike Challenge:
Last Week:
- Monday – Winter had returned with 0 degrees wind chill so I waited until after work to do my run. Still chilly and windy.
- Tuesday – Busy work day so only two walks. One at lunch and a longer one after work with a friend.
- Wednesday – Still busy at work but I did have time to squeeze a run in at lunch. A little warmer and less windy but pretty dreary out.
The best part of my day was my after work hike to Five Rivers… no snow, flowing water, deer, etc… so relaxing.
- Thursday – I should have run before work but I was hoping that the rain would hold off. Nope. it was pouring at lunchtime so NO run for me. That also meant we were back at the outdoor mall for our after work walk.
- Friday – Rest Day! It was sunny and since I skipped my run on Thursday, I was tempted to run but I never run the day before my long run so I walked instead.
- Saturday – Long Run Saturday returned. With the snow all melted, we were able to choose one of the bike paths. Six of us met at the rail trail. Some running, some walking and various distances and paces. I seem to be dragging the caboose these days so still glad to have company for most of the miles. It was even warm enough to have brunch outdoors.
Though my legs were a little tired, we were getting a new roof put on our house. Too noisy to stay home so I set out on another hike, a nearby one.
- Sunday – It was even nicer today…that meant it was a hiking day!!! I have a new challenge too. Columbia County Hike 5 (or 10) Challenge. I had two new ones on the plan for today. I LOVED them both.

Ooms Conservation Area –great views of the mountains and the lake and more… could have stayed all day
I got a recommendation about this trail while I was at Ooms.
Six miles for the day and I didn’t finish all the trails.
This Coming Week –
- Monday – run, walk
- Tuesday – rest day, bike, walk with friends
- Wednesday – run, walk
- Thursday – run, walk with friends
- Friday – rest day, bike, walk
- Saturday – LONG RUN
- Sunday – rest day, bike, walk/hike

It was crazy cold here too this past week and omg the wind. I am loving the extra daylight though. All of your hiking looks so fun!

Hiking appears to my jam these days. Esp since my running is dragging. I think this week we will see an improvement in temps…unfortunately it never lasts. So I plan to enjoy it!!

I was whining about our 32F temps yesterday morning, but really it was perfect running weather. Now a wind chill of zero would have me on my treadmill! My last day at the office was March 20th (although most people stopped coming in on the 13th), so now I’ve been a year working from home, but more than that away from my fitness classes, which I seemed to have quite by the beginning of March. Maybe I’ll be back by June.

Except for my running friends of course.

Great pics! It’s pretty spring-like here with lots of flowers and blossom, which is lovely. I’m still working my way around my virtual long runs but no races at the moment.

Can’t wait for some buds. Good luck with your virtuals

Wow, one year! Will you ever go back to the office?
It’s going to be fun to watch spring emerge on the trails, isn’t it? The Ice Age Trail segment where I do most of my hiking has a segment challenge that I think I’m going to do over the summer. It’s a total of 50 miles, obviously, not all at once, lol

Unfortunately we will. Not sure when.
Yes. Love my trails. It’s fun seeing how they change through the seasons.
50 miles. Wow.

It’s amazing how much “better” everything has gotten in just a few weeks. Being outdoors without freezing…having daylight…getting to see other people…all the running…vaccines. Life is good.

Seems like it was cold & blustery everywhere last week, especially early on. Another busy week for you, though. Great job staying so active!

I am impressed with your 10 mile runs on the weekends. Great job! One year of working from home. Hard to believe but at the same time that is reality. Last week it was windy and with the time change I struggled a lot. Here’s to hoping that this coming week is better.

I think this week will be warmer at least the beginning of the week.
Ten miles is always tough but with company, it is a little easier.

I marked one year of working from home last Monday and I honestly still can’t wrap my head around it! What a crazy time. The weather last week was so weird between the sunshine, freezing cold temps and rain, but I think this week will be much better.

I was so naïve. I thought we’d be back in a few weeks…now I have no idea when ..fall?
I agree the forecast for this week looks great…at least until Friday.

Spring is most definitely here in central NC. All of the cherry trees, Forsythias, Bradford Pear trees, and all of the little flower bulbs are coming up. It’s beautiful! Now if only the wind would calm down a bit.

How nice…. nothing yet but the temps are warming up so soon!

There are so many signs of spring but it’s probably going to remain muddy for most trails for a while. Still, we’ve been mostly lucky, no snow, not that much rain!

I don’t mind mud except when it’s too dangerous and slippery. Just have to be more selective. Happy for skirt weather this week at least

A whole year..who would have thought! At least you have cute company with the cat!
The weather was all over the place; hopefully this week will be true spring weather across the board 🙂

It’s warming up here too but today it’s rainy and then a cool down for next week. Typical spring.
