Runfessions for December 2020

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

and it’s the last one for 2020!!

1. I runfess…

I’ve passed by many of those small library boxes.  I always look to see if there’s a book that I want.  I have gone back to get some books.  But recently I saw two holidays DVDs.  I took them because I could just stuff them in my waist band and continue my run.

I mean it was “Love Actually” and a Reese Witherspoon movie

Have you ever done something so silly? What is your favorite holiday movie?

2. I runfess…

I’ve used Strava for a few 5k Virtual Races because NYRR/ Strava sponsored them.  I do not pause my watch when I tie my shoe, stop to walk or even take pictures.  So yes, the elapsed time is way slower than the moving time.  I know that if it were a real race, I could run as fast as (or hopefully faster than) the moving time. I don’t feel guilty.

Do you pause your watch when you stop running?

3.I runfess…

I haven’t decided on my next half marathon but I had already registered (before the pandemic) to run a Feb. 14 one in Fort Lauderdale (with Cari).

Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon

Feb. 14, 2021

But there was a Cyber Monday discount so I also registered for one the week before in Melbourne (where my Sister-in-law lives).

Feb. 7, 2021

No, I don’t plan to run both. I may run neither.  Both races offer deferrals.  Hopefully I will run one and defer the other to 2022.

Anyone want to join me in either of these races?

4. I runfess…

I ordered all my holiday presents myself. So I love them all. Running shoes, socks, lighted vest, turkey trot beanie & socks.

Do you prefer surprise gifts or do you like to pick out what you want?

5.I runfess…

I had a hard time getting in the holiday spirt with everything going on.  But I always make and send holiday photo cards.  So I did.

Do you still like to send and get “real” cards?

6.I runfess…

I said that I was over virtual races.  And I am. At least mostly (No more virtual half marathons!!)

But I already signed up for two virtual races – a free 5k on January 1.

NYRR Virtual Resolution Run 5K

and a 15k on January 30.  This one supports a great charity and has awesome swag (and blogger Kim is also running this one.)

Virtual Houston 15k

Anyone want to join me in either of these races?

It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.

Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

  1. I see a lot of those little library boxes but I don’t stop because where would I put the books? I regret not stopping once because there was a copy of The New Basics cookbook; the copy I own has a broken binding. It would have been nice to replace it!

After my vaccine, I started looking at races and that Feb 14 Florida race is on my list of possibilities. Stay tuned…

    Merry Christmas Darlene!

  2. I’m in the send/receive holiday cards…though every year I’m terrible about getting them out very early. At least in 2020, anything is acceptable LOL

  3. I do try to send cards when I can get organized. I think New Year’s cards should be more popular/easier to find — they are non-denominational and can be sent out after the holiday crush! 😉 Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  4. I’ve seen one of those little library boxes in my city – it was on a route I don’t normally run but it was packed full of books which made me happy 🙂

I’ve run the Hot Chocolate 15K race in Philly twice and that race series always has the best swag, especially their jackets!

  5. I have not checked out any of those library boxes myself but I have seen quite a few. I was awfully proud of myself for reading 6 books on my trip and a few audiobooks. I am not ready to sign up for races again yet until I am convinced they are happening. Hoping at least one of those works out for you

  6. I love the idea of the library boxes but I’ve never stopped to checkout what’s inside. Great idea though. I runfess I’ve run past a golf course and picked up golf balls that were out out near the road, and dragged them home. Why? I’ve no clue. You’ve got lots of fun race possibilities! I love holiday cards but have failed at sending any over the last few years. Ugh.

    • I almost didn’t do a card this year. This may have been the ONLY normal part of the holiday.

I have done that on a golf course too (they are easier to carry lol)

  7. How fun that you were able to snag 2 movies from that box!
When will you know if your race in Florida is a definite?
I like sending/receiving holiday cards and every year I intend to do it early, but I never do. I never end up sending as many as I hope too. Your Holiday card looks great, and is that your husband doing the belly flop? That looks terrifying! Have a great week!

    • Most likely the last minute. Even if it happens, I’m not sure I want to go through all the trouble. We’ll see.

Actually, he was driving off a cliff and luckily it was not a belly flop (or that would have hurt).

  8. One of my friends has a little free library that I sometimes check out on a run. I usually come back to pick up the books, though. That way I can get some of my books to drop off as well as not having to carry books on my run.

I wish I could go to Florida to run one of those half marathons with you. My sister lives in FL and I usually visit her at the end of January, but I just don’t feel good about traveling right now. Good luck if you wind up running one of the races.

And I have my watch set on auto pause. I would definitely forget to restart it after a stoplight, tying my shoe, etc. 🙂
