It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1. I runfess…
I signed up for a series of 8 fall virtual 5k races. They were free and I thought that they would motivate to improve my pace and get more serious about running.
They did not. I grew more disinterested with each one and my pace got slower and I walked more.
Obviously virtual races are not races in my eyes.
2. I runfess…
I also signed up for a virtual half marathon because it was ZOOMA race, the ZOOMA director bought Skirt Sports (I have been, as you know, a Skirt Sports ambassador for many years) and there was great swag.
I am so over paying for virtual races. I feel bad for the racing companies and charities but no more!!
3.I runfess…
I’m struggling with the fact several of my running friends have become walking friends (and my consistent partner is wintering in Florida). I know it’s selfish but I like company when I run. And although there are no races, I still want to keep up with my long runs.
I miss the races we used to run together.
4. I runfess…
I want this pandemic to end so I can travel again. I have a trip tentatively planned in February but Florida is a hot spot and even if there race happens, I wonder if my Florida friends will let me stay with them.

I know this is where I will want to be in Feb!!
5.I runfess…
I’m pretty nervous about my upcoming “real” half marathon. I forgot what it was like to race. I’m pretty sure that it will my slowest one ever. I don’t really care about that. I just hope it will be still fun and won’t taint my vision of racing.

the new normal – staggered starts, no water stops, no bag check – masks
It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? So glad to get mine out in the open? Can you identify with any of them? Please share.
I would be nervous too about a real race! I don’t even know how that works anymore. I’m sure it’s going to be fun even with all the restrictions. When will it be?

Nov 15. It’ll be different that’s for sure.

I agree with you about paying for virtual races. Now I will only pay for ones that give the money to local charities. I will admit that as the year goes on my desire to do more virtual races is hitting 0%.

Yup. I hear you.

I agree with you on all points. I think most people (runners anyway) are over virtual races and this whole pandemic by now. Before it seemed like there might be an end in sight around the beginning of next year but now, who knows?

I heard not until the end of 2021. Ugh. Hard to be positive sometimes.

I’m very sad that there is no end in sight for this pandemic. It’s hard to keep getting one’s head about the ongoing cancellations/isolation. I won’t do any virtual race longer than 10k. That’s plenty for me at this point. Ugh.

Yes. As long as we stay active we’re ok. But it is depressing at times.

I think I missed that you have an in-person half coming up! I so miss real races. Once I wrap-up the BAA virtual races next month I’m done with virtual races for a while. Though, sadly I don’t think we’re going to see many in-person events any time soon.

Yes Nov 15. This organization had one already and I guess it went well. We’ll see. Not the same but maybe better than nothing. Not too excited about it. But who knows when there will be a REAL race as we remember them.

I agree, the virtual races are not the same regarding motivation as the IRL ones. I do have to say, “biking” some has been a fun twist to the mix…it’s given me a new challenge. We’re debating rebooking our Florida trip as well… we’d planned on going there in late March thus year, but that didn’t happen. Who knows if 2021 will happen either?

I know. I REALLY want to get away!!!
Glad you enjoy biking. Esp with your foot injury.

I also quickly lost interest in the virtual races however, I am doing a Thanksgiving one bc I wanted to support the charity. My goal was also to get back to a 10K base. I really miss all of my running peeps!

I’m so lucky to see my running peeps. There are others that I only see at races. I miss them too. I will just run on Thanksgiving…not supporting any more virtuals at the moment.

I would definitely like to travel. It’s been far too long (almost 2 years). I don’t see it happening anytime soon, unless we risk a trip to see my MIL at some point.

That would be a long flight to wear a mask. I do hope I get to go to fla. but not sure about quarantining if I go. We’ll see.

My nephew & his girlfriend flew in from India a few months ago.
My brother flew back from CO to CA after taking his son to college. You should’ve seen what he was wearing.
As much as I long for a vacation, I suspect my first one might be within driving distance, although I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

I have a real 5k coming up next week. I haven’t heard anything about how it’s going to happen. My live half was so well planned. This should be interesting!

Yes. Can’t wait to hear. I love race recaps. Have read too many this year lol

I have run 2 local (tiny) 5Ks in person this fall. they were both very low-key because I was running them with my son. I think I would be very nervous about an in-person half too. A friend just asked me to sign up for an in-person half happening next spring in Napa. It is so appealing. I might just take the chance.

Very tempting. I would if I could afford it. The RDs I heard are doing the best to make races safe.

I think we are all ready for this to be over. It’s so funny to me – where I am in Florida, things aren’t bad (knock on wood). A couple hours down the road, not so much. I hope things work out.

Yeah. I heard Fla was very bad. I have plans for Feb. fingers crossed.

You can never go wrong with free! I have always wanted to do a Zooma race because of the swap( I’m sure that’s why those aren’t free).Hopefully I’ll be able to do one some day at an event rather than virtual.

I can understand your disinterest in virtual races. By this time, I bet everyone is. Who would have ever thought that virtual “everything” would be lasting this long??
Thanks for linking up. I hope you have a great weekend and a happy Halloween!

And it’s not over for a long shot.
Hope I can keep up my mojo without races.

There’s an organization here managing to put on small races. I’m just not interested. I do love the swag I got from the 2 virtual races I did. The Scooby Doo long-sleeve is really nice and the Lawyer Have Heart t-shirt is so soft!

That’s great. Everyone feels differently about races and virtuals.

It’s tough as I understand how much these organizations are hurting, but I agree, it’s hard to pay for a virtual race…just not the same. I just did an in-person 10k today that was very safe and it was fun to be back in that environment and see all the other runners/racers I recognized from years prior!

Great to hear that your race went well. Looking forward to getting back out there.

I feel the absolute same as you…I’m so over virtual races. Initially I did it as a way to support race companies, but now I’m done. I’ll finish up the virtual races I have already paid for and then I’m done until real racing comes back. If we don’t get a spring season I’ll focus on building speed for short distances like I did this past summer. That was going great until I got injured, so I’d like to get back to that when I heal up. I’ll probably also keep swimming in the rotation. I really like it.

Yup. Hope your injury is short lived. And that races come back this spring.
