It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.
I have my first half marathon of 2019 in THREE weeks – the Publix Florida Half Marathon. Though I have run 8 halfs in Florida, this is the first time for this particular race.
- Naples -Jan 2011
- First Watch Sarasota – Mar 2013
- West Palm – Jan 2015
- Eau Palm Beach – Dec 2015
- Sarasota Music Half – Feb 2016
- PCB Half – Dec 2016
- Treasure Coast Half (Jupiter)- Mar 2017
- Brew2Brew Half (Vero Beach) – Mar 2018
So my Topic this week is: Five Things I’d Love to Happen During This RACE
1.Good Weather
Not too hot and not too cold. No wind or rain. It’s in Florida so I’m not sure what I can do about the humidity.
2. No pain.
No foot pain or lower back pain. Or any new aches or injuries.
3. Ocean Views
Sometimes, they say there will be water views but you can never see the ocean or it is for such a short period of time. This is the main reason why I love Florida races.
4.Age Group Award
At my age, this is always a possibility and welcome reward.
5. Finish under 2:15.
Not expecting a PR (under 2:06:52) since I did not train for one. I’d like a respectable finish time although with crossing big TWO bridges, this may be a dream.
- 2:11:23
- 2:11:48
Happy Running! Do you have any goals for your first BIG race or any race in 2019? Please share.
I want to run a race in Florida so I may have to add this one to my bucket list if you like it!

There are so many Florida half marathons – like over 150. Of course, there’s Disney but they are so big and so expensive so I avoid them But others love them.

Fingers crossed that you have good weather and no pain! That map certainly makes the race look like it should have lots of beautiful views 🙂

It should be a beautiful course but it won’t matter if I’m in pain or it’s raining. Fingers and toes crossed!!

Hopefully it will be warm this year for you. Regardless it has to be warmer than New York. You can’t beat a fast flat race. I’m sure it’ll be nice to get away.

Yes, it’ll definitely be warmer than NY but I’d love to get to the beach.

My racing goals are to do a 5k, 10k and half marathon this year.

Great goals – I bet you achieve them all. Keep us posted.

That’s fun you found a new half to run in FL! Can’t believe it’s been almost a year already since i ran Gasparilla. That was fun despite the heat. My first race of the year will be the Tokyo Marathon and I’ll be thrilled to get there in one piece and finish with a smile on my face.

Oh I am sure that you will do great!
I’d love to do Gasparilla some time.

Have fun!! My first race isn’t for a few more weeks (mid-February), but I might register for one at the last moment next weekend. I need to stalk the extended forecast a little first LOL

Good luck. We’re getting snowmageddon this weekend.

Do you think it will be challenging to switch back to warm weather and humidity after running in cold temps the last few months?

Yes but a welcome

I’ll be in Florida in March and I’m eyeing a half in Fort De Soto state park. I ran that one about 7 years ago. Considering it again. We’ll see.
Do they card you at races? You look way younger than your age!

Ha ha. You’re funny.
Hope you run that half. It’s always fun to run while on vacation.

Best of luck to you! Haven’t ran a race yet in Florida but would love to run in the Keys or Miami someday.

Me too. My friends are in the Keys now. The half is tomorrow.

Ooh that course looks fun. I love that area too. Cocoa Beach is my tacky heart.
Ocean views is what I love about Lauderdale. It’s oceanfront for most of 9 miles. And two of the non oceanfront miles are gorgeous in the state park on the intracoastal.
How do you find the competition for winter races in Florida given the snowbirds?
I oddly don’t have capital G goals for any of my 3 Halfs. I wrote them somewhere but they were to maybe PR in FLL, definitely course record and have fun for the NYC Half. I subsequently revised Lebow when I was hurt, but I don’t remember my first set. Will have to find them

I have to do FL one year. I have 3 friends in Delray. My goals are always the same. Stay healthy. Enjoy. All my halfs are new. So course PRs. It depends how big the race is. Those old runners can be very speedy. Can’t wait to leave the cold.
