Rain Abbreviated Vacation

 I’m Back!

The forecast for last night was thundershowers and rain for today so we stayed on the island till 8 pm last night and then brought our boat back to Bolton Landing Marina and headed home a day early.

the view from our site (Red Rock Bay #18)

We had PERFECT weather for three days. We spent each day on the island barbecuing, drinking, swimming, fishing, relaxing and enjoying the company of our old and new friends (who visited each day).

Although the site and weather was perfect, we spent the night on our boat at Bolton Landing Marina.  That way, I could run.  YAY! I ran 3.5 miles both Sunday & Monday mornings in Bolton Landing and around the Sagamore Hotel.

Plans for today include laundry, laundry …and movies tonight and then back to work tomorrow!

Happy Running!

Topic: Lessons Learned

Question: It goes without saying that anytime you challenge yourself, you learn something.  What are some of the things you have learned on your own personal journey through fitness, whether it be from triathlon, running or just simply training? (Thanks for posting this question last week so I could schedule this post before I left on vacation.))

  1. I’ve learned to prioritize.  If running is important, you have to make time for it which means skipping things you like to do or re-scheduling things.
  2. I’ve learned to set goals. That means – how many miles to run each week or each month, how many races to run in, how fast to run, how far to run (and to keep track of the above by blogging and dailymile.com)
  3. I’ve learned not to get discouraged after a poor run or a poor race.  There’s always another.
  4. I’ve learned to run on the treadmill because I hate to run in colder temperatures.
  5. I’ve learned that what you wear matters.  Clothes must be comfortable and it’s important to look good (at least for me).
  6. I’ve learned a lot from reading other running blogs and by writing my own blog.

Happy Running!

On the Lake

I am leaving for Lake George….

Bolton Landing (Sagamore) running route

Happy Running and Happy Memorial Day weekend!

5 Things Friday

  1. The weather has cooled down a bit and I had a good 3.5 mile run yesterday – after my hair appt & before sunset. I hope to do another after work today too.
  2. My knee pain has been gone for a week (knock on wood) – I hope it stays away.
  3. I haven’t had time to play tennis (working 2 jobs and running) but I played yesterday before work – I enjoyed it and even played well.
  4. I have FOUR days off starting tomorrow. YAY!!!!!!!!
  5. I must be a runner since I am thinking more about when & where to run than anything else regarding our upcoming weekend on our boat.

Happy Running and TGIF!

It’s HOT!!

I love the hot weather.  I wish I didn’t have to work and could enjoy it.

Last nite, I waited til after 8 pm to run 3.5 sweaty miles. Today, I had to settle for a walk at lunch.  Tomorrow I hope to run in the evening after my hair appt.  Maybe I’ll even squeeze another in after work on Friday.

Then we’re off to stay on our boat for 4 days on Lake George.  If I can talk my hubby into  docking in Bolton Landing, I hope to run around the Sagamore a few mornings.

Happy Running and enjoy the summer weather!

Juneathon 2010

This is sponsored by Run Courtney Run.

Here is how its going to work:

1. It’s a month of exercise (running, biking, swimming, etc.) and blogging. June 1st to June 30th.

2. Everyday you must do some sort of exercise and blogging. I know this might be tough especially the blogging part but I’m not asking for a big post and if you miss a day its possible you might still win. So give it a try!

3. Leave a comment here letting her know you’re in.

4. The person that actually blogs and exercises the most (i.e. everyday or almost everyday) will win a grand prize. TBA.

5. Two runners up will also win a prize.

6. Go HERE to see participants and updates.

7. Make sure to post this logo on your blog and let people know your participating. You should have a link on the logo sending people HERE. The more people we get to join the more fun this can be!

Sounds like fun.  I won’t have a problem blogging and maybe this will motivate me to run or play tennis EVERYDAY!!!

Topic:  Summer Racing

Question:  What are your summer race plans?  Are you trying anything new this year?  What race are you looking most forward to?

I LOVE racing in the summer.  If I could, I would do a 5k every weekend. These are the ones I’ve registered for already but I may do some more in June and July.

  • June
  • Freihofer’s Run for Women
  • July
  • Silks & Satins 5k
  • August
  • Fasig Tipton 5k
  • Jailhouse Rock 5K
  • New Visions 5K
  • I am most looking forward to Silks & Satins and Fasig Tipton because I love to run Saratoga, especially during track season. All of these races I’ve done before so there’s nothing new here.  But I, of course, want to get faster!!

    Happy Summer Running!

SPAC 5K Rock & Run and a PR

Another new race for me. This one sounded like fun and it was!

It was beautiful day for running – in the low 70’s and cloudy/sunny.  I think there were almost 800 entries which is a lot for a new race.  I arrived early and immediately bumped into my boss.  I recently found out that he runs (and he’s fast!)

The course weaved through the park and there was a band playing music at each mile marker as well as time clocks posted.

I started a little ways back since they kept asking the 6 min mile runners to move to the  front.  I tried to start out slowly which meant that about 500 runners whizzed by me.

At mile 1, I was around 9:20 which is fast for me so I slowed down and at mile 2, I was around 18:40. So I guess I didn’t slow down.  I stopped halfway for water and that was it.  I ran the whole race and I felt great! It was a good feeling because now I know I could  have run faster.

I crossed the finish line at 29:21!!! That is a PR!!

No chance for an award.  The times of the runners were amazing. They had a free photo booth so I took some sweaty pics of myself.

and they gave out cool gifts (moisturing-wicking shirt, bag, chap stick, magnet, pen, water bottle, etc.)…

I’m definitely going to run this race again.  (Watch a video HERE.)

Next one is not for 2 weeks – the Freihofer’s Run for Women…

    Happy Running!

2nd Annual Vascular Birthmark Foundation 5K Run

I ran this race last year and I have run several races before at the Crossings so I was prepared.

I only ran once this week (Tuesday) and only 2.5 miles.  Today was commencement for the law school where I work.  It was held in Saratoga and I was a volunteer worker. So as a result, I was on my feet (in heels) for about 4 hours.

After the ceremony, we went out to lunch.  I had a chicken parm sub & sweet potato fries (probably a mistake).  I rushed home to change my clothes and get to the race.

It rained for a few minutes before the race but unfortunately it didn’t lower the humidity at all.  The temperature was close to 80 degrees, as well.

Anyway, whether it was lunch, standing on my feet all day, running too fast, the humidity or what, I did not feel well at all during this race.  I had stomach cramps and walked for a while during mile 1, mile 2 and mile 3.  I felt I had to. Several times, I wondered whether I should quit.

I was stunned to cross the finish line at 30:00!! (3 minutes faster than last year.)

There were a small but enthusiastic group of runners in this race and they were only giving prizes to 1st place in 10 year age groups.  I was 2nd by 7 seconds.  So I left and treated myself to ice cream.

So still trying to PR at 5k— that means faster than 29:30.  I know I can do it!?

Next race is the SPAC Rock and Run next Sunday.

    Happy Running!
