Weekend Update

I survived my 5k on Saturday (barely).

I then headed up to Lake George for the rest of the weekend. We had lunch in Bolton Landing.

at Water's Edge Marina

our friends getting ready

and hung out on our boat til the evening when we went to Harris Bay marina for a theme party.  Our friends won first place with their “The Fog” movie theme. It was a beautiful evening.

Harris Bay at sunset

The next morning, it was cloudy & cool and I went for my usual 3 mile  run around the Sagamore. I felt better than yesterday.

We spent the rest of Sunday hanging out on the water with friends (5 boats tied together) until it started to rain around 5 pm.

having lunch on our boat at Bassin Bay

I’m glad I got in a short run…who knows when I’ll get a chance again.

I haven’t decided on my next 5k…there are many possibilities – Aug 28 in Altamont, Sept 4 in Saratoga, and/or Sept 11 in Guilderland.

Jailhouse Rock 5k Race Report

This race also counts for  Courtney’s Virtual Race for Change benefiting LLS.

This is my 2nd time running this race.  Last year, I won my age group & a pair of socks.

This summer, my tennis has taken up most of my time so I didn’t feel prepared to do well on this race.  I had only run 5 miles since my last 5k race. I decided to just do it and get on with the weekend. NO EXPECTATIONS! NO DISAPPOINTMENTS!!

I remembered that the race ended with a BIG hill and there were some minor ones in between.

So…

Unfortunately, I got up feeling nauseous and tired exactly the same way I felt the day before. At least, the weather was perfect for a race – high 60’s and sunny with a breeze!!!!

I arrived at the race early enough and bumped into Melissa from the Happy Runner’s running group.  I hadn’t seen her since the Freihofer race in June.  She is training for the NYC Marathon but in this 5k, she was going to be pushing her daughter Mia in a stroller.

I knew I was in trouble when we had to walk up that big hill to get to the starting line and I was winded.

I started at the front.  It doesn’t bother me that everyone whizzes by me. I felt sick the whole race – sweating (& it wasn’t hot), feeling like I was going to puke.  During the 2nd mile, my head started to throb also.   I only stopped at the water stop and I persevered to the end.

It’s times like this that the thought goes through your head, why am I running????  This is not fun…………

During last  Saturday’s 5k I felt great and was surprised that my time wasn’t faster.  This time, when I saw the clock at 29 minutes, I was shocked that I was so fast!!

I managed to finish under 30 minutes at 29:49!!! 2 seconds faster than last week.

I didn’t puke and after a while, my headache went away. So I hung around with Melissa to see if I won anything.

I DID!!!!!!!!

I won one of the raffle prizes – RoadID and I won 3rd place in my age group – a pair of Jailhouse Rock 5k socks (The same as I won last year.)

Stats:
Time -29:436
Pace – 9:37/mi
Finish 156/231 ( 3/4 in 55-59 age group)

Goals Recap for this  5K:

A – PR
B – under 30 minutes
C- faster than last year’s (31:04)
D- win my age group
E – finish

I didn’t do A, I accomplished B, C, E – Not bad considering…

I’m off to Lake George!!!!!!!!

Happy Running and Enjoy the Weekend!

Five Foto Friday

I have the Jailhouse Rock 5k tomorrow and it’s been a busy week.  I’m going to think of this race as practice with no expectations.  Whatever happens, happens. After the race, I’m going to Lake George for the rest of the weekend. It is always a fun time and again, the weather promises to be perfect.

I’ll be competing in Syracuse next Friday, Saturday & Sunday so this coming week, I need to focus on tennis and then re-focus on running after it’s over.

Now for 5 photos:

They’re of Lake George, of course!

Happy Running and Good Luck on Weekend Races!

Happy Hump Day

Gee, this week is speeding by!

I have a 5K this Saturday!  After last week’s lack of running, I planned to run more so I could maybe PR!

NOT!!!

Monday after work, I had team tennis practice.  Yesterday, I played tennis after work.  Today, I have a team tennis lesson after work. Tomorrow I play tennis before work.

Yes, tennis has overshadowed running until after Sectionals and if we win, til after Nationals.

And then, there’s Amanda, my mentee – Sunday at the lake, Mon am – road test, Thursday – Funplex…

Amanda & Richard on our boat

And then, there’s my Mah Jongg friends (They want to play 2x this week) and my hubby and my JOB!

How’s a girl supposed to find time to run??? If I don’t run, my 5k race time will SUCK!

I’m doing my best — Yesterday after 2 hours of tennis, I ran 3 miles (in the almost dark).  This morning before work, I squeezed in another 2 miles. I may even run some more Friday before work (though I don’t usually run the day before a race.)

Goals for this Saturday’s 5K:

A – PR
B – under 30 minutes
C- faster than last year’s (31:04)
D- win my age group
E – finish

Happy Running!

Fasig Tipton 5K Race Report

This is my 2nd time at this race.  Last year, this race was a PR for me. Here I am:

However since then I’ve lowered my PR.(to 28:42) My last race was here in Saratoga and I didn’t PR so I decided not to get my hopes up.

I planned to meet Mary at this race.  She is training for a half marathon but still wants to finish a 5k under 30 minutes.

One good thing about this race is that the Fasig-Tipton Pavillion (where people come bid on and  buy horses) is open,  There’s an art exhibit and REAL bathrooms.

The weather was absolutely perfect – 60’s and sunny.  There were only about 300 racers because this race conflicts with 3 other races.

The  race starts at the same spot as the Silks and Satins but has a completely different course. I ran into Mary right away.  She wanted me to be her pacer so she could finish under 30 minutes.  Imagine, someone thinking I run fast!!!

I like to start at the starting line but Mary wanted to start in the back.  We compromised and moved to the middle.

I should mention that tennis has taken over my life and I haven’t run since Tuesday when I only ran 3 miles.  So I definitely was rested but was I in shape to run fast???

I took off fast and Mary said she would follow me.  I felt like I had so much energy.  The course does have a long uphill road during the 2nd mile and when you think it’s over, you turn the corner, and you have a steeper hill.  At that point, there’s a water stop.  I stopped but it was difficult to get going again.

Mary caught up to me at the end of the 2nd mile but I still felt strong and she was losing steam.

At the 3 mile mark is when I felt tired. .1 miles seemed endless.  I thought still that I had run a good race until I saw 29 minutes in the distance.  I sped up because there was no way I was going to finish in over 30 minutes!!!

My official time was 29:51.

A first: I ran a race slower than the previous year!!!!

Mary finished in 30:03!! This was her fastest race but she was disappointed that she didn’t finish in under 30 minutes.  I said that next time, we have to start at the front!!!

She was so thankful that I was her pacer.  She called me her HERO and hugged me!!!

It made me forget my disappointment in not PRing!!

Stats:
Time -29:51
Pace – 9:37/mi
Finish 193/266 (8/11 in 50-59 age group, 2/3 in 55-59 age group)

They gave out awards to the top 3 in 10 year age groups (not 5) – DARN!! (I forgot my camera but pics are posted here)

This year's finish

Another busy week is coming up and another 5K next Saturday!

Happy Running and have a nice weekend!
