Weekly Run Down for 8.20.23-8.27.23: Following the Plan…

I do have a plan.

But during for training for my marathon in 2019, I had a hard time following it.  Those mid-week long runs were almost impossible when traveling for work or the weather didn’t cooperate.

This year, I’ve tried.  I got the miles in but not exactly how it was supposed to be. For example: 3, 5, 3 became 4, 4, 3 and 3, 6, 3 became 4, 6, 2.

I still have a long way to go…. 8, 9, 10 miles on a week day????

But this past week, I actually ran 3, 6, 3 (as the plan said). Woo Hoo!

Last Week —

  • Sunday – Not the warmest or sunniest day but still very relaxing and great to get away.

  • Monday – DAY OFF from work!!

I got up early and ran 3 miles on the rail trail

too bad when the temps are cooler, the humidity is higher… did another FREE Peleton run – intervals 5:2, 5:2, 4:1, 1:1 or something like that

and then met my running friends for our hiking adventure.

First we headed to walk among the sunflowers.

only one field at this location but just beautiful.

Afterward we hiked at Huyck Preserve to view some waterfalls and then we walked around the lake

soo muddy but very pretty

After our hike, we had a delicious lunch at the Shell Inn.

Then one last hike to earn our homemade ice cream (at Duck Pond)…

of course, more small waterfalls not pictured at Bozenkill Preserve

  • Tuesday – I wasn’t sure if I would run my 6 miles after work or wait until Wed. AM.  It all depended when I’d have company and the weather.

So I started the day at the gym and then decided to postpone my run. I met two friends for a walk instead.

  • Wednesday – I got up early enough to get in 6 miles on the rail trail before work.

thumbs up for temps in the 50s…

During this run, I listened to a podcast interview with Susanna Sullivan (who qualified for the World Championships in the marathon) – full-time teacher (9am-5pm), runs 100 miles a week, swims once a day and tutors in the evening.. I guess I can’t complain about not having enough time to do my miles each week.

I missed last month’s tennis ladies meet-up.  But this week, it was held at someone’s home… They relaxed and swam in her pool but I joined them after work for dinner and drinks.

  • Thursday – An early 3 mile run. This time my friend Deirdre was able to come…

and then I planned to join my friends for an evening on the trails…

but it was pouring so we went out to dinner instead. Thursdays has not gone well weather wise for this summer trail run series.  (Last one is next week. Finger crossed for dry weather.)

  • Friday – Rest Day/Gym morning. Mah jongg in the evening. My typical Friday.
  • Saturday – Long Run Day or cut back/taper run. Yes, only 10 miles.

warm and humid but could have been worse… having friends along helped

I was fortunate to have company for most of the 10.5 miles (yup went a little over).  Ran 1.75 with Barb, Stan and Sherry and then ran back and met up with Heidi, Judy & Deirdre for 3.5 more in the opposite direction. Eventually I finished the last 1.5 solo and joined Jan, Denise, Chris & El (pictured) for brunch.

Very fortunate to be part of this group… we discussed our plans for next week’s race.

  • Sunday – Gym time and then if the weather is nice, we’ll go boating…

This Coming Week on the Run (10 Weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday –  run (AM)
  • Tuesdayrun (AM), hair appt.
  • Wednesday – longer run (AM)
  • Thursday – ARE trail run/walk (last one)
  • Friday –  GYM, rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Run 4 the River Half Marathon
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Marathon #2
  • Friday –  Ultimate Coffee Date

Happy Running! How is your year of running so far? Training for any big or small races this fall?  How’s the weather where you live? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 8.13.23-8.20.23: Sunny Days

Yes, sunshine.  And some clouds. Rain was only forecast for my rest days!! (Of course, there were several unpredicted showers too)

Last Week —

  • Sunday – On my schedule was a fun 5k that I’ve run the past two years.  But I hadn’t signed up…

I was tempted but I had run 11 miles the day before and so instead I went to the gym.

Finally no rain in the forecast so it was a perfect day for the hubby & I to go boating on the lake.

I relaxed, watched kids jumping off the cliff and read Running While Black – what an awesome book!!

Guess what? It poured but the storm was short and then the sun came out and dried things up.

  • Monday – I got up early and met my running friend Deirdre on the rail trail for a 4 mile run before work.

ran 3 miles with intervals and then one on my own

I had planned to walk with a friend after work but when she mentioned that she’d love to see the sunflowers, I didn’t hesitate (despite the hour drive.)

each week a new field blooms… and we even discovered a new place to have ice cream on the way home…

  • Tuesday – A rainy day but that was ok with me since all I had planned was a trip to the gym before work.

Then after work, it wasn’t planned but we decided to buy a car rather than repairing my 13 year old car.

  • Wednesday – No time to run before work so I ran 6 miles after work. Deirdre met me again (at a different part of the rail trail)..

The rain had stopped which left the air full of moisture… so humid… we wished for more rain!

At noon, NYRR opened up for selecting your transportation to the start, expo time and bag check option. Did all 60k runners log in?? I waited in the queue for about 30 minutes and then picked.  I chose 6:15 am bus.  My other option was the subway to 7:45 am ferry, then a bus. One option seems too early and the other too late.

  • Thursday – The gym before work and then a lunch morning run… just 2 miles today.

I thought that the slight breeze would relieve some of the humidity .. nope!

I also tried one of the FREE Peleton classes… I did half of this one (which was a speed workout).

Finally no thunderstorms predicted for our weekly trail run/walk. Thacher Park was the location and it’s our favorite because we go for dinner after at Maple on the Lake.

muddy in parts but beautiful views… no rain until the drive home after dinner…

  • Friday – Rainy morning and  rest day #2.  I headed to the gym before work and then after work, shopped, cleaned the house so I could host mah jongg.

Of course, the sun did come out at lunch when I went outside to weed…

  • Saturday – Long Run Day! 12 miles on the plan! I ran the first 8 with Stan & Sherry and then Deidre joined for the last 4. And it rained lightly during most of the run (but it felt good) and the run felt good.

After our runs, Heidi, one of my running friends planned a party at her house (She lives on a lake). Unfortunately the rainy weather kept us indoors so no swimming, kayaking, etc. today. Still it was fun.

Top: not 21 but 12 miles (lol) and cheers to running with friends.

Then I picked up my new car (2021 actually):

  • Sunday – The gym first thing and if the weather is nice, we’ll go boating…

This Coming Week on the Run (11 Weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday –  run, DAY OFF, hiking with friends
  • Tuesday – GYM, rest day
  • Wednesday -AM run, dinner out with tennis friends
  • Thursday – run, trail run/walk
  • Friday –  GYM, rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Long Run (10 miles)
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Favorites of 2023
  • Friday –  Runfessions

Weekly Run Down for 8.6.23-8.13.23: Summer Fun

I don’t take any formal vacations during the summer.

But sometimes as they say: “Girls just wanna have fun…”

So I took Monday, Wednesday and Friday off this past week and added some fun activities.

Last Week —

  • Sunday – I started the week (as usual) at the gym…

The weather was beautiful (with rain predicted for the next few days) so we planned to spend the day on the lake.

Unfortunately, my hubby has been battling a cold for the last few days and was feeling worse.

So I took advantage of the free time to get some things done — manicure, grocery shopping, library, etc.

When I realized that it may possibly be raining the next two mornings, I decided that I should try to get a run in.

85 degrees and sunny = not a good idea!!

One good thing about the day was that one of sunflower patches was in full bloom and they opened at 5 pm.

So I took a long drive there and yes, it was worth it.

there will be many more visits when the other fields bloom…

  • Monday – Every other Monday, I try to go hiking with my running friends.

As it often happens, the forecast was for rain.

And I woke up to rain so I was glad I had run the day before.

When I looked at the radar, there looked like there would be a break in the rain.  My running friend Sherry was game to give it a try.

and yes, we stayed dry. The first trail was really nice although we’d have to cross the brook to finish it and the 2nd was very buggy.

I met a friend after she got out of work to walk.  It was raining (and HUMID) so I suggested that we go to the Y to walk on the track.  We walked 2 miles and it isn’t so bad if you chat the whole time (but boy, was the gym crowded at this time of day!!)

  • Tuesday –  I thought it was going to be raining so I didn’t plan to run and went to the gym instead before work.

Well, the humidity had returned but I was ready to run at lunch and then it started to monsoon.

And then a few minutes later, it stopped so off I drove for a run.

the flowers were pretty but holy humidity, Batman!!

  • Wednesday – Each August for like 35 years or more, my former teacher friend and I go to breakfast at the race track and then stay and bet on the horses. Occasionally we win $$ but mostly just have fun.

Finally we had a sunny DRY day this week.

today there was a power outage but fortunately races resumed and we even ended the day on a winning note.

  • Thursday – It was a struggle but I got up early enough to get my 5 mile run done before work.

the temps were great but it was more HUMID than I expected…

Sorry to be a broken record but every Thursday evening, rain is forecast and my friends and I struggle with the decision to join the trail running group.  Often we bail and then it doesn’t rain.

Only a few of us did go and it rained (but only lightly).

ice cream is always appropriate for evening trail walks

  • Friday – One of my running friends participates in an annual knitting retreat on Lake George and two years ago I joined her on the last day.  I ran my 10 mile long run on hills and then spent the afternoon swimming.

This year, it was my rest day so I started by going to the gym and then headed up to Lake George.

Instead of running, we went on a short hike on nearby trails.

Eleonora is also a knitter, runner and fellow Skirt Sports ambassador

Then we spent the rest of the day relaxing by the water

such a beautiful place to hang out, swim, etc. I’m planning to join them again next year

and I rushed home in time to play mah jongg.

  • Saturday – Long Run Day! It may have been the weather or the company but today’s 11 mile run felt easy (finally).

it was great catching up with Alyssa whom I haven’t run with in quite awhile.

There were 11 of out there today… it’s great that everyone can join no matter what distance or pace they are running and then we celebrate our achievement at brunch.

  • Sunday – If the weather is nice, we’ll go boating…

This Coming Week on the Run (12 Weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday –  run
  • Tuesday – GYM, rest day
  • Wednesday -run
  • Thursday – run, trail run/walk
  • Friday –  GYM, rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Long Run (12 miles)
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Dream Running Location
  • Friday –  Does Age Matter?

Happy Running! How is your year of running so far? Training for any big or small races?  Do anything fun this week? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 7.30.23-8.6.23: A Brief Cool Down

Hot and humid the week before and this past week, when I am working from home and so I have more options on when to run, it was 20 degrees cooler with little humidity.

Summer in the NE!

Last Week —

  • Sunday –  I never had time to get to the gym last week so today I made myself get up early and go!!

Finally NO rain in the forecast.  It was much cooler as I mentioned above but the sun was shining and so it was perfect boating weather.

top pic shows where the day before an 85 ft tree fell on someone’s boat (no human injuries) and today we did invite friends to join us (so no reading got done).

It is a long drive to the lake so guess what I finished?

beat the grandbaby’s birth by a month 🙂

  • Monday – Back to early morning running on the rail trail… and it almost felt like fall..

but I was sweating by the end of the run… and I’m not used to solo runs (even with a podcast) so I quit after 4 miles.

Too nice to sit in the house at lunch and so I planned to walk or run a few more miles… and then it started to rain.

I headed out after work and again it started to rain.

I guess that was a sign that one 4 miler was enough for the day.

  • Tuesday – I do enjoy routines – 4 days running (M, W, TH, Sa long) and 3 days at the gym (Tu, F, Su). So today was gym day #2 (first thing in the morning and had to rush home to work).

What Is the DTaP Vaccine? 7 Things You Need to Know | The Healthy

Then after work I got my DTaP shot (to prepare to meet my granddaughter in a few weeks) and afterward I met my BFF for a walk…

  • Wednesday –  Same routine as Monday but I drove to a different section of the rail trail.

perfect running weather – those arm sleeves only lasted for the first few minutes of my 4 miles

  • Thursday – Loving this fall-like weather (and my WFH schedule).  Just 3 miles today before work starting from the barn (on the rail trail.)

spotted a rock from Ohio and leftover art from the Pandemic

We decided that the scheduled location for the ARE Thursday trail run was too far away so we organized our own.

We had planned on the Pinebush trails but again thunderstorms had us switch to a closer 3 miler.

  • Friday – Rest Day from running but a before work trip to the gym.

Notice my shirt… my current “motivation”

I decided to go work at the office today.  One benefit (besides a printer) is that I pass Starbucks on the way. I was introduced to this last week – Chocolate Cream Cold Brew. Try it if you haven’t!!

Rain on and off ALL day so it was a perfect indoor work day with mah jongg in the evening.

  • Saturday – Long Run Day!! 10 miles with friends on the rail trail. It wasn’t easy but it felt way better than last week due to the deceased humidity.

After brunch and a few errands, I was finally able to go see this movie with my running friends:

Official Poster for Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' : r/movies

  • Sunday – After the gym, hopefully a relaxing boating day on the lake.

This Coming Week on the Run (13 Weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday – DAY OFF – run, hike
  • Tuesday run, walk
  • Wednesday – DAY OFF –rest day, day at the Saratoga race  track
  • Thursday – run, trail run/walk
  • Friday – DAY OFF – GYM, rest day, day with a friend in Lake George
  • Saturday Long Run (11 miles)
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Favorite FB Photos
  • Friday –  Avoiding Fitness Burnout

Happy Running! How is your year of running so far? Training for any big or small races?  Has your weather cooled down? Do you always run on certain days? Have you seen the Barbie movie yet? Starbucks addicts, anyone? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 7.23.23-7.30.23: Moonlighting…

Twice a year (February and July), I take time off from my regular 8-4 job and work for the software company that applicants use to take the NYS Bar Exam.

So that’s what I did this past week.

Last Week —

  • Sunday – I headed to the gym first thing in the morning.

After two rainy Sundays in a row, today was perfect.

lots of needed relaxation and reading (Hello Beautiful- any one read it?)

  • Monday – I had predicted a crazy work week so I decided to move my 5 miler to this morning… luckily my friend Deirdre agreed to get up early too to run.

too rushed to get a selfie but I did see some more art on the rail trail…

Then I dropped my car off at the dealer and worked a half day.

After lunch, I met my friends Heidi and Sherry for a short hike in Pittsfield, MA…

an impromptu location and we finished the hike before the skies opened up

  • Tuesday – Rest Day and day 1 at the Bar Exam.

7AM start

Long.Day.

7PM finish

  • Wednesday – Back to my regular job but not working from home… teaching a live class.

Tired from standing all day but needed to get some fresh air and some miles.

At least I had company at UAlbany but it was 90 degrees and it felt torturous…

  • Thursday – Day 2 at the Bar Exam with a later start and earlier finish than Tuesday.

I thought I might squeeze in a run first thing but nope I delayed it until after work.  It rained on and off all afternoon but there was brief pause …

my old route as I used to work here… but so so humid!!!!

We hoped that the predicted thunderstorms would hold off so we could get in our weekly trail run/walk. But we were so indecisive about going…

Instead, we bailed and just took a walk and went out to dinner…

It poured before our walk but never rained again the entire evening… we finished off the day with ice cream sandwiches from the cookie truck.

  • Friday – Rest Day and similar to to Tuesday (Day 3 at the Bar exam). I did some walking laps around the building but that’s about it…

In the evening I went out to play mah jongg…

  • Saturday – Long Run Day!  We started earlier than usual but still it was the hardest one to date… due to extreme humidity. I ran the first 4-5 miles with Barbara, Lisa, Stan and Sherry and then sprinted ahead just to get the 9 miles done before meeting the others for brunch (That was the best part of the run. LOL)

hoping for some cooler weather next weekend

It rained hard off and on the rest of the day… and temps dropped about 20 degrees…

seen in the Walmart parking lot

  • Sunday – I plan to return to the gym after a week off and definitely go to the lake with friends.

This Coming Week on the Run (14 Weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday – run
  • Tuesday – GYM, rest day
  • Wednesday -run
  • Thursday – run, trail run/walk
  • Friday –  GYM, rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Long Run (10 mies)
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Favorite IG Pictures
  • Friday –  Ultimate Coffee Date

Weekly Run Down for 7.16.23-7.23.23: Back in the Big Apple

Yes, NYC is my favorite place but unfortunately this trip was not for a race or a vacation… WORK!!

Still, I tried to make it fun.. explore, run, race, eat ice cream… lol

Last Week —

  • Sunday – Boating Sunday got rained out AGAIN!!

It rained in the morning and threatened all day but actually didn’t rain until evening.

I started the day at the gym and was able to take my time (no need to rush home)…

and there were actually people running the indoor track (due to the inclement weather) and I even walked about a mile

Because I was going to miss my Thursday evening hike at Thacher park this week, I decided head up there to do some hiking (that was after I got stung several times in the nose by a wasp – OUCH!!)

Paint Mine trail was my first stop and the creek (and the humidity) were wild…

When it looked like the rain would hold off, I decided to walk the Indian Ladder Trail… it had been years since I had done it…)

the rain has been good for something I’ve never seen so much water in both falls!!

On the way home, I stopped for ice cream and my car started acting up AGAIN… (it’s back at the dealer !!! 😦 )

  • Monday – Because I skipped my long run on Saturday in favor of a 5k race, I got up early and ran 7 miles on the rail trail before work.

I parked at that barn and ran some humid foggy miles with my friend Deirdre (who had to run 10) … the bottom right is a new bridge that collapsed while under construction)

  • Tuesday – I got up very early to get to the gym and then my hubby drove me to the train station to catch my train to NYC.

I checked into my hotel and then had to decide what to do until Cari got out of work… I decided to head to the World Trade Center area to explore.

I was greeted by lots of wall art…

and more:

Unfortunately the 911 Museum is closed on Tuesdays so I just walked around..

upper right is the Survivor tree

I walked toward the river and discovered Brookfield Place

Soon it was time to head back and meet Cari for dinner and…

  • Wednesday – Early morning subway ride to Queens, worked all day and then the subway back to the hotel.

Decisions, decisions. 5K in Brooklyn OR a 3 mile run around Central Park??

You know me, even though I was exhausted and it was humid and threatening to rain, I chose to run the 5k.

pic from last year’s race

I quickly changed my clothes and hopped on the subway… Q or the B? I chose the B.

Wrong choice as there was a delay on the line and we sat on the bridge for over an hour (as I watched the many Q trains go by.)

By the time we got to the next station, I would be too late to run the 5k (which started at 7:10 and it was already 6:45)

So what to do? Continue on and run 3 miles in the Prospect Park?

Nope… I got off the subway and went back one stop and then got off…

It was 3.1 miles back to my hotel and so I ran a leisurely route back through Soho, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, etc.

always interesting sights to see in NYC

Was I disappointed in missing the race?

Just a little. I love to race but the conditions were not ideal anyway and I did get the miles in (and beat the rain.)

  • Thursday – I checked out of my hotel but left my bag, then there was a LONG subway ride to Queens, worked all day and then took the subway back to the hotel. Finally I headed to Penn Station to catch my train home! (LONG DAY!!!)

treated to this view of the Hudson

  • Friday – Back home and back to the gym before work and mah jongg after work in the evening. In between, work and unpacking!!
  • Saturday – Long Run Day!

I was lucky to have some amazing friends to share 8 miles with

on the Corning bike path (which is along the Hudson R)

and others who joined at brunch.

  • Sunday – Gym first thing.

Will the weather allow us to go on our boat??

This Coming Week on the Run (15 weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday – run, hike (PM off from work)
  • Tuesday – rest day, walk with BFF?
  • Wednesday -run after work
  • Thursday – run after work, trail run/walk
  • Friday –  rest day, mah jongg
  • Saturday Long Run (9 miles)
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  PPTC 5K Race Recap When to DNS a Race
  • Friday –  Runfessions

Happy Running! How is your year of running so far? Training for any big or small races? How are you dealing with the weather where you live? DNS any races lately? Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 7.9.23-7.16.23: Searching for speed…

I started Marathon training but still I have a few 5ks on my schedule… I keep saying that these races are my speed workouts. However, it would be nice if I did some speed drills to prepare for them…

Last Week —

  • Sunday – Another Sunday where rain and thunderstorms were predicted.

I went to the gym first thing

and then we decided to skip boating.  I went for a two very muggy hikes (while my hubby did yard work).

I returned to Tivoli Lake (where I had a tour recently) because the animals (sheep & alpacas) were supposed to return from NYC today.

the wildflowers were in bloom but no sign of the animals!?

Then I stopped to walk at Normanskill Farms (sorry no pix).

Of course, the rain held off until later but boy did it rain…

I got caught up around the house, binged watched “Never Have I Ever” (someone mentioned it on their blog) and knit (I need to finish that blanket before the grandbaby is born…)

  • Monday – My Day off!

And we cancelled our hiking plans since AGAIN the forecast was for rain!

Of course, when I woke up the rain had stopped.  I decided to risk getting wet and went out for a run.

lots of interesting scenery and NO rain, just high humidity.

I had 3 miles planned but when I didn’t have to rush to just it done before work, I wound up with over 4 miles!

Again it didn’t rain much and not until later.

So made a trip to TJ’s, continued binge watching Never Have I Ever and knitting.

Finally I decided that I needed that hike. We’ve had so much rain that it was quite muddy but I love the sound of flowing water.

  • Tuesday – Back to work but I decided to postpone my rest day and run on the rail trail before the heat and with a friend.

4 miles with some cat sightings.

After work, I returned to the same trail to walk with a friend whom I hadn’t seen in a while.

  • Wednesday – After a night of poor sleep, I decided against getting up early for a run.

Instead, I went to the gym and felt so much better afterward.

At lunch, I decided to give that run a go (despite the sun and heat.)

that was painful.. back to early morning runs!

After work,  the brief rain shower had ended so my BFF and I hit the outdoor mall for a walk/chat.

friends for almost 50 years…

  • Thursday – Finally a rest day (from running) and I even skipped the gym.

After work, I planned to join my friends for a trail run/walk. Sorry to be a broken record but again rain/thunderstorms were predicted.  I don’t mind rain but thunderstorms in the woods would be no bueno.  And I was planning to just walk.

So a few of us decided to meet to just walk. Yes it did rain and who knows if its timing coincided with the event??

our view from the porch while eating delicious ice cream sandwiches

  • Friday – Another rest day (from running) but I did get to the gym before work.

After work, I had a hair appt and then got ready for the my race the next day.

  • Saturday – Silks and Satins 5k Race!! (Maybe this should have been a long run but it’s still early in my marathon training so I’ll call it a big cut back week.)

I met up with friends to run the race (and came in 2nd in my AG) and then after, we met up with other friends for brunch.

yup, another HUMID morning but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…

  • Sunday – My plans for today include the gym followed by a day on the boat (unless the weather gets in the way AGAIN.)

This Coming Week on the Run (16 weeks until NYCM)–

  • Monday – GYM, run
  • Tuesday –  train to NYC (for work), walk around NYC & meet Cari
  • Wednesday -run
  • Thursday – rest day, train home
  • Friday –   GYM, rest day
  • Saturday Long Run
  • Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Silks and Satins 5k race Recap
  • Friday – Sometimes Once is Not Enough (Part 2)

Happy Running! How is your year of running so far? Training for any big or small races?  Please share.

Weekly Run Down for 7.2.23-7.9.23: And so it began…

Last Monday started week 1 of 18… Marathon Training!

I will switch Mondays and Tuesdays and cut back when Wednesdays go over 4 miles…

And my YMCA membership also began!! My goal is to workout 3x a week and run 4x a week.

Last Week —

  • Sunday – Boating cancelled due to monsoon rains… Boo!

My only option was the gym and as you read above, I did join!!!

So I did my machines and because I was not in a rush, I walked a mile on the track.

yes 14 times around = 1 mile which is why I will NEVER run here… it was above a very loud and popular Zumba class. Anyone do Zumba?

  • Monday – Normally a run day but I had signed up a race the next day so I hit the gym again before work.

After work, one of my running friends (who lives on a lake) hosted a FULL MOON party…

Well, it poured so no kayaking and then cloudy, so NO FULL MOON!

lots of good food and conversation so we still had fun

  • Tuesday – Firecracker 4 Race!

I was successful in talking 4 of my running friends into joining me (even after a late night!!)

It threatened rain but then it didn’t rain at all and the sun even came out to make this a sweat fest.

I definitely struggled but the mimosas after made me forget about my finish time…

  • Wednesday – Hike-a-thon!

This was my 3rd year participating.

My friend who usually accompanied me had to cancel but another friend agreed to come.

This year, I chose Thomas Mountain.

it was very hot but we made it up and back (3 miles).

My hubby took the day off from work and took us out on the lake.

we spent a lot of time cooling off in the water and of course, we stopped for ice cream on the way home.

  • Thursday – I started the day with a 4 mile run before heading to a funeral and then the office.

glad I did this very early and glad to have company…

I ended the day with my weekly 3 mile trail run/walk..

it continued to be hot and humid but we cooled off at a new dinner place and then ice cream…

  • Friday – Finally was able to get to the gym.

A rest day (raining on and off) with mah jongg in the evening

  • Saturday – Long Run Day!

I planned on 8 miles this week. I started running with Barbara and Stan… after 3 humid miles, I deferred to a slower pace with Heidi and Deirdre (until the last mile) and then we all had brunch.

  • Sunday – I plan to start the day at the gym and hope for a dry day to go boating…

Weekly Run Down for 6.25.23-7.2.23: Fitting it all in…

Crazy week!!!

Instead of my usual WFH, I had to teach in person… 8-4 pm Wed-Fri.

So when do I run or work out???

In addition, to my job, there was also dealing with the weather. When I WFH, I can squeeze in my runs or workouts between the raindrops. Not this week!

And it was my turn to host mah jongg. OY! (cleaning my house…)

Plus, I had car problems and needed to use my hubby’s truck and get mine to the dealer = $$$$

Last Week —

  • Sunday – The forecast called for cloudy and showers…

I started the day at the gym while the hubby went to play tennis..

But it didn’t look like rain at all so we headed to the lake… blue skies, sunshine and very warm temps.

perfect day and the water was even warm enough to go in… a little rain came after we got home that evening.

  • Monday – Day off from work so the plan was to go on a hiking adventure with 3 of my running friends. Again rain was predicted.

First we drove to Field Farm in Williamstown, MA and had a lovely 3 mile hike.

It rained during lunch but then it stopped so we drove to the Clark Campus Trails and walked 2.5 more miles.

It rained a little on our way to get ice cream but the skies opened up when we got home and it poured all evening.

Phew… lucky us!

  • Tuesday –  The weather was too unpredictable to plan an early morning run with a friend.

Of course, I woke up early and it wasn’t raining. Too late to call my friend so I drove the rail trail and ran solo.

95% humidity!! But glad to have it done… my whole day starts better when I do my run before work. And there will be lots of distraction since a scavenger hunt is going on on the trail.

  • Wednesday – In person work!! That meant getting up early, looking good and driving to work (plus packing my running clothes, a lunch and snacks)…

My only run time would be after work… without rain, hopefully.

It rained on and off all day but stopped by the time I was done with work. But as I mentioned above, my car was acting up so I drove straight home and ran in my neighborhood.

lots of flowers (and a podcast) to keep me entertained (and a beer after to re-fuel.)

  • Thursday –  Same schedule as Wednesday except that it was Trail Run night.

I quickly changed into running clothes after work and drive to UAlbany to get in my 3 miles. Afterward, I met the others at the trail (which was nearby) ran to meet my friends Barbara and Deb who agreed to drive to the trail (due to my car issues).

As usual, I enjoyed walking the trails while my friends ran and of course, it was followed by ice cream.

  • Friday – Same old, same old… but finally a rest day.

Rest?

Work, shop for snacks, clean, set up and host mah jongg.

  • Saturday –  Long Run Saturday.

I met my friend Debbie and she drove to Zim Smith Trail where we ran 8 7 miles with Sherry, Stan and then joined Heidi for brunch.

several in our group didn’t come due to the poor air quality… it was the humidity, however, that bothered me not the smoke.

On the way home, I stopped off to pickup our bibs/shirts for the July 4th race.

  • Sunday – TBD depending on the weather

This Coming Week on the Run (18 weeks until NYCM) –

Weekly Run Down for 6.18.23-6.25.23: Welcome Summer!

Longer Days! Sunshine! Flowers! Boating!

What’s not to love?

Maybe humidity and higher temps.. just means adjusting and running early (and slower).

Last Week —

  • Sunday – I started the day at the gym…

Since it was Father’s Day, I let the hubby decide what he wanted to do… and it was tennis.

So I did errands, laundry, cleaning, gardening and eventually a short hike.

  • Monday – Juneteenth Holiday so I had the day off from work.. It was very convenient since I ran a 5k on Saturday instead of a Long Run.

And so today I did my Long Run. I was glad to have the company of two friends.

2 miles w/Deirdre and then 4 more with Heidi & Deirdre + coffee after (at a new place)

I spent the rest of my day off, weeding and knitting… Yup, a baby blanket for my granddaughter!!!  The pattern is  very easy so I should be able to get it done before Sept. 5…

this is the pattern: Diagonal Eyelet Baby Afghan (the baby is cute too)

After dinner, I went for a walk with my BFF.

  • Tuesday – Gym was closed yesterday so I went there before work today.

I took the day off from running so I could go to our monthly tennis dinner.

love catching up with these ladies

  • Wednesday – I decided to run before work rather than going to the gym.

My friend Deirdre met me on the rail trail but I forgot to get her pic so you have one of my cat Champ instead…

And after work, I had signed up for this:

It turned to be a private tour since no one else signed up.  If you know Albany, this park is located in one of least safe neighborhoods in the city…

but it’s beautiful… I’d go again… but probably not alone

  • Thursday – Another early morning run…

a little too warm but much better than later in the day… ran a little on the rail trail, a little on a dirt trail and a little in the ‘hood.

and then after work, our weekly trail run was scheduled.

As usual, most of the participants ran it (and I could have on this trail but I had already run in the morning so I walked it with some friends).

always a fun time esp. searching for ice cream afterwards

  • Friday – Rest day from running but a trip to the gym before work.

Mah jongg in the evening and getting ready for my race the next day.  Will it rain??

got my rain jacket, poncho and umbrella ready!!

  • Saturday – Adirondack 7M Race to the Lake.  First time for this course that was changed from a 15k to a 7 miler (with the hills removed at the beginning).  Still very hilly until the last 1.5 miles but it ends at Lake George.

The predicted rain never happened until I was done but it was warm and oppressively humid.

don’t let that smile fool you… I struggled big time!!

In the evening, the hubby and I went out to dinner to celebrate a friend’s hubby’s b-day.

  • Sunday – Fingers crossed for boating weather… (though it doesn’t look good) but if not, then hopefully some dry time for hiking and gardening.

This Coming Week on the Run–

  • Monday – DAY OFF – run early, hiking with friends
  • Tuesday – GYM, rest day
  • Wednesday – run after work
  • Thursday – run after work, trail walk
  • Friday –  rest day, mah jongg (chez moi)
  • Saturday Long Run!
