It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1. I runfess…
Obviously I have runner’s amnesia because after my last 5k that felt inexplicably hard, I vowed to prepare better so I would not feel defeated with my slow finish time.
I did not do any speed work for tomorrow’s 10k.
But I have another 5k the week after.
Will those drills come to fruition?
2.I runfess…
I don’t expect any 5k PRs but I haven’t given up hope on that sub 30 (or realistically sub 31) finish.
Upcoming 5ks:
-
- 10-03-26 –Barn to Bridge 5k
- 10-24-26 – Summer Smith Memorial 5k
- 11-15-26 – Upstate Classic 5k (as a STEM mentor)
- 12-13-26 – Winter Series #1 (5k)
Wish me luck.
3. I runfess…
Even though my last half marathon was my slowest finish time ever, I don’t regret running it.
I enjoyed the challenge, a new place to run and I even won an age group award.
4. I runfess…
My last half marathon was #79 and if I can stay healthy, I’m going for 100!
I’ve already signed up for 2 more in 2027!
-
- 02-28-27 – NYCRuns Central Park Half Marathon
- 04-03-27 – Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon
5.I runfess…
Again this year, I am mentoring a group of new runners as part of the STEM program.
They use the Couch to 5k app (most likely because, it’s cheap and easy to use.)
I HATE it!
You start and end each run with a 5 minute walk. And in 10 weeks, you increase your runs from 60 sec. to 30 minutes (without walking).
Maybe it’s because I’ve adopted the run/walk method.
Do you need to be able to run without walking to complete a 5k? Do you walk for 5 minutes to start a race? What new runner will finish a 5k in 30 minutes?
End of rant…
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, and Runs with Pugs,
And don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other blogs!!

You will definitely reach those 100 half-marathons, Darlene!

We’ll see. It’s good to have a goal. But they get harder as you age.
Not for you. lol.

That’s a very impressive 13.1 count! I know I’m well over 50, but it’s been awhile since I’ve kept tract. Striving for 100 is a great motivation!

You’re younger so who knows how many you’ll achieve.

Going for 100 half marathons sounds like a good and achievable goal to me! Especially for someone like you who loves races. Hope you’ll reach your sub-30 5k as well.
Before I got injured and quit running in 2023 I followed a Couch to 5k program on Runkeeper. It was very ambitious and I wasn’t a fan. I made my own intervals instead and now when I run again I’ll keep making my own intervals. I have no rush to run a full 5k and may never do it which is fine too. I have no problem to keep doing the walk/run method forever, I’m just happy to be able to run.

And you should be.

100 is a great goal!
I think Couch to 5K is pretty great and I think the 5 minute walk to start is way before you get to the 5K run. And there’s no issue with walk breaks either way! Whatever it takes.
