WRD for 8.2.26-8.9.26: Adding some fun into my week…

I only worked 3 days this week and they were all WFH.

I went to the races one day and I spent two days in NYC.

Fun. Fun. Fun.

Last Week-

  • Sunday -I started the day at the gym…

The weather was iffy but we decided to take a chance and go up to the lake.

It wasn’t sunny but it never rained until we left and it was so relaxing.

I read Theo of Golden and loved it!

  • Monday – It rained all night and I didn’t plan to run this morning. I didn’t sleep well so I decided to skip the gym.

Thunderstorms were predicted but it wasn’t raining yet so I squeezed in a run in my neighborhood. It was a test to see how I fared at a later start time and in extreme humidity.  Not good. What a slog…

no selfie but I was wearing these colors…

What was I thinking about running a 10k this weekend in these conditions?!

My granddaughter had a swim lesson so I went to visit anyway.

she did pretty good for someone who is not yet 3… and she loved her new books!

  • Tuesday – I met my running friend for a planned early morning run. It’s definitely easier to run when you are not alone. It was also cooler and less humid.

My friend Jenny texted me and asked to meet her for a walk so I took a late lunch …

After work , I went to PT..

and then I met my BFF for another walk.

Lots of steps today!! Over 20k.

  • Wednesday – DAY OFF – My annual day at the Saratoga Race track with a former co-worker.  We’ve been doing this annually for 40 years.

2013

We had breakfast while watching the horses warm up.  We stayed for 8 out of 10 races.  I did not have winning day but it was enjoyable (Luckily I don’t bet a lot of $$ so I can’t lose a lot.)

  • Thursday – Early morning PT today. It helps to use different equipment and to have someone to monitor your exercises.

At lunchtime, I attempted a run… and quit!

I thought it might be cooler on the water line behind my house… How do you Florida people do it?

and then after work, I planned to go to the weekly trail run (which I always walk) unless there were predicted thunderstorms.

I got lucky and finished my abbreviated walk just before the skies opened up.

the rain didn’t stop me from getting ice cream…

  • Friday – DAY OFF.

My running friend Heidi and I took an early train into NYC. After we arrived, we took the subway downtown to our hotel. We had our traditional bagel lunch and stumbled upon a free bus and so we took that to a sculpture park.  From there, we took a ferry uptown…

and walked to a Titanic VR experience, then had rooftop drinks before carb loading for dinner, getting soaked in a thunderstorm (seeing Cari for a few minutes) and finally we went to a Broadway show.

Lots of steps and sweat for our pre-race day in NYC.

  • Saturday – Manhattan Ice Cream Social 10k.

I got up and had my usual hotel-prepared oatmeal and coffee. I met Heidi in the lobby (we had separate rooms) at 7:15 am.

We had stayed in a hotel downtown so we could just walk to the ferry. The line was long but we arrived on Governor’s Island in plenty of time to get our bib/shirt.

We checked our shirts and just hung out.  I was praying that we wouldn’t get a thunderstorm. (I had this happen for a 5k here and they cancelled the race.)

The race consisted of 2 loops around Governor’s Island. I had run it twice before and recalled that it was fairly flat but no shade.

pic from this 10k 2 years ago..

Unfortunately since the race started at 9 am, it was already hot and extremely humid.  It was a struggle but I just took it slow. Heidi had even more issues with the heat and quit after 3.1 miles.

Otherwise, the course views were great, the race was well organized and you got ice cream/Italian ices afterward.

This was the first time that I hadn’t done the race alone and I didn’t have to rush off the island..

We hung out/recovered until we had to leave to get to Manhattan to check out of our hotel. Before we headed uptown to the train station, we had lunch along the water.

  • Sunday – Maybe another 5k – Rose for the Roses and boating but most likely just the gym and boating…

  1. A visit to Governor’s Island is on my list albeit not in August 🙂 Kudos to you for finishing a 10K in this heat and humidity. That’s quite a challenge.

  2. ARG! Race should not start at 9 am in the summer!!! Races down here start no later than 7:30- 9 is getting way too hot. Still, you did it- I’m looking forward to the race recap.

Sounds like this was a very fun week! And I guess the PT is working!

  3. I don’t think a race without shade in August that starts at 9:00 a.m. would be my favorite, but free ice cream does sound like a good incentive. As always great job getting in all of the races, and I love your New York City pictures. What a fun week! I definitely recognized those Saratoga photos 🙂

  4. That 9am race time sounds rough!! It sounds like a great race otherwise (well, some shade would be nice too). I love a scenic race! Are you usually the travel planner when you go to NYC? You always do such fun things there. I just googled the show you went to. It sounds pretty funny! Did you like it?
