A very busy week: 10 mile race, first boating day on the lake (rained out), lots of gardening, dinner out with tennis friends, a visit to the NY Botanical Gardens and my all time favorite race.
AND WE GOT ANOTHER CAT!
Last Week-
- Sunday –Miles on the Mohawk 10 miler – I have run this race several times in the past so I was familiar with the logistics. It’s point to point so you park at the start and have someone drive you back after the race.
Unfortunately the weather forecast was accurate. It rained the whole race. But actually, we were only cold and uncomfortable before and after the race.
- Monday – DAY OFF – Memorial Day.
I had booked a dock on one of the islands on Lake George and was hoping to take our boat our for the first time this season
Nope, too cold and rainy.
Eventually it was nice enough to do some gardening. So Plan B worked out fine.
- Tuesday – Back to work and a beautiful day.
I started the day at the gym.
You may remember that we have 2 tuxedo cats . One is very sweet and the other is a BIG nuisance. My hubby thought that a 3rd may help. I wanted a kitten but they are hard to come by. And I happened upon this 2 yr old female who had been in a small cage for several weeks. I fell in love.
She is still in her own room and our nuisance cat is in hiding!?
Weather perfect for lunch on our deck (we redid it last summer).
After work, I was meeting my BFF for a walk so beforehand, I decided to run a little to see how the legs felt. Sluggish but not too bad.
- Wednesday – Another nice day and I decided to run in the AM around the neighborhood
and then after work, I went to my monthly dinner with the tennis ladies.
- Thursday – I started the day again at the gym.
I left work early because I had signed up to volunteer at the expo for this weekend’s 5k. I took the opportunity to pickup my bib and shirt as well as my friends’.
Afterward, I rushed off to attend ARE’s first summer trail run. Or for me, trail walk.
- Friday- I took the day off to go on my annual visit to the NY Botanical Gardens. We drove part way and then took the train the rest of the way to the Bronx. This year’s the was Flower Power (the 60’s). And we were old enough to be nostalgic.
- Saturday – Race for Women 5k – The only race that I have completed every year since I started running – so this was my 19th time.
I had to get there early as I was a mentor for the training challenge.
Deb did the race too and we carpooled to the start.
It was cold, windy and rainy … but everyone seemed to be smiling. Can’t ask for more!
- Sunday -A gym visit and weather permitting up to the lake.
If not, more gardening…

Love the flower pics and the botanical gardens look fun with their theme! Someone told me a little while ago they did the Miners’ Strike (1984; politicised me, remember it very well) in History lessons. Hmph. A shame both runs were wet but then you didn’t run the risk of overheating. A friend just did the Edinburgh Marathon and it was boiling hot and lots of people collapsed.

The same in Paris at the French open. Really hot.

Wow, how great to have a race you’ve done 19 times — rain or shine!
Congrats on the 10 miler too!
Dali is a perfect name! Interesting on the cat relationship dynamics. I hope they all get along.

I hope they do. I’m waiting a few weeks to find out.

Awww, the new kitty is so cute, but I have no guesses as to why you named her Dali. Hopefully, she and the other two will be friends in no time!
Nice job on completing two races in one week and having fun at both! Too bad that both were wet, though.
Your new deck looks great. I love the rug!

Wait, that artist from Cuba with the eyebrows? Did she have a mustache, too?

No the Spanish one. Salvador Dali. (a man with a famous mustache.)

OMG Dali!!!! Yes, love the name and the mustache. It’s a little harder for adult cats to get adopted so I’m glad you chose her! Your other cats are just going to feel unsettled for a while with a new “smell” in the house, but they’ll come around. I’m looking forward to a photo of all three tuxedo cats together!
I can’t believe it’s still cold there- well, soon you’ll be cursing the heat and humidity. Congrats on race #19- that’s some amazing consistency!!!

it’s my only consistent race. I like new ones.
It will be a while for that photo. I plan to keep Dali in her own room for a few weeks.

We had a few cooler days this week, but the rain was finally gone so I was ok with it! It was 50 when I woke up this morning and “Chilly” for my run, but it’s already almost 70 and sunny! This time of year brings so many big temp stretches that I often go to work with a coat on and then forget it because it’s so warm when I leave! Love the new kitty!!!!!!!!

Same here. Starts out cold and then warms up. Hard to dress for the run.

DALI!!!! Look at her mustache! What a cutie! I hope everyone starts acclimating soon!
Congrats on another great race! Cold weather sounds really good right about now.
I love botanical gardens. I always try to visit them when I go to other areas.

I love when it’s porch season again! Bummer it rained for both of your races. You did finish with a smile anyway!

Oooh, a new cat! She’s beautiful!
You’re so unlucky with weather at your races. But people smiling certainly makes up for it.

You can’t change the weather so you deal with it.

Congrats on both races, but geez, sorry about the weather! Your deck looks great and now I need to get motivated to buy some flowers. I didn’t even put any out last year. Our deck has a south exposure and it is often too hot to sit out there. Maybe if I make it pretty, I might like it better, lol

My hubby says it’s too hot also. I try to go in the am and at dinner time… it helps if it’s pretty but I have to remember to water the plants.

Looks we both had rainy “19th time” races this weekend, LOL. I had a light breeze, which actually felt nice because it was SO humid. Congrats!

Dali is adorable!!! When I saw the pic I thought, wait a minute.. doesn’t she already have 2 tuxedo cats?? it will be interesting to see how they all get along (wonderful I hope!). My cats still fight with each other on the daily (well, one is aggressive and the other won’t stand for it!). I look forward to seeing a pile of sleeping tuxedo cats 🙂
Congrats on your 19th! That’s impressive. The 20th has got to be better weather.
