It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1.I runfess…
I love running and racing but I may like tennis again…
But no, I am only subbing outdoors this summer.
No time or $$ to play tennis the rest of the year.
2. I runfess…
Half marathon is my favorite distance because I love the challenge of finishing 13.1 miles.
But I am enjoying having no half marathon on my schedule from April 12-August 30.
Long runs are not long.
3. I runfess…
I talked a friend who mostly runs marathons into running run/walk intervals.
She complained that she has gotten so slow.
But it may be making me faster too.
4. I runfess…
I had given up hope of having a fast 5k time again. Each 5k race I’ve done this year has been a course PW.
Except for the last one…
I have a few more scheduled this summer before I run 2 more half marathons.
Maybe I should try for that sub 30 minute finish….
5. I runfess…
I’m already looking ahead to my winter trip to Florida…
Of course, I want to run a race while I’m there. But we will have to coordinate the dates with our hosts…
The are some of our choices:
-
- Jan. 3 – Say No to Drugs 10k (The one we registered for last year but they changed the date)
- Dec. 22- Aspirations Christmas Wine 5k

-
- Dec. 13 – RunFluent Christmas Trail run (4 mi or 7 hr.)

-
- Dec 20 – Run Tampa Tinsel 5k
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and The Running Teacher!

I’m sure it’s fun to mix things up with tennis!
My long runs have tapped out at 6-7 miles and I’m good with that. Maybe I’ll get back up to 8 in the fall, but not in this heat!

The heat has put a tamper in things for sure.

training for a 5K is different from long distance running. Maybe it would be fun to mix it up for a bit and focus on the 5K races

I think so. But I’m not a fan of speed work.

Nothing wrong with shorter long runs in this heat! I think the summer is an especially good time to mix it up – enjoy your tennis!

What is this now? A trail run on December 13? I assume it’s in the Tampa area. It would probably not be a good time for me to get away, but I’m going to look into it anyway.
Maybe you’ll focus a little more on speed instead of distance this summer! That could be fun. I’ve decided to focus on “decade PRs” going forward. You might have some decade PRs in your future!

I always say I’ll focus on speedy but then I don’t.
I’m not keen on trails. And yes in the Tampa area.

So, you are doing a walk/run thing with Jenny like once/week? How many miles do you do? And… of course you need to start at 5:30am…?

Looks like you have a lot of options for future races in Florida! I’ve said this many times… I love long races (half marathons, and an occasional full marathon-though it’s been six years since my last one), but I am not a fan of the long training runs. I’m glad I don’t have any of those long-long runs on the roster for a few months 😉

Yes. It’s nice to have a long run break.

How fun that you’re subbing in tennis this summer. I’m sure you’re happy not to be doing long marathon training runs in this heat.

Oh I love that you are able to get in some subbing for tennis!
And how fun for another Florida vacation. That area is so pretty!

Training thru summer heat for long races is brutal. Tennis sounds like a nice mix to your activities.
