It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1.I runfess…
This year has to be a record of the number of races, I’ve signed up for and have not raced. I either walked or ran/walked slowly…
- Hero 5k for Autism
- Run for Women 5k
- High Lawn Farm Keep MOO’ving 5k
- NYCRUNS Manhattan Ice Cream Social 10k
- HMRRC Anniversary 3.3m Run
- Barn to Bridge 5k
Better than a DNS, right?
I may have lost my competitive edge.
2. I runfess…
I can’t wait for marathon training to be over so I can actually focus on racing and on shorter distances.
I hated skipping races because I had a long run on my schedule.
Next year – Run for the Roses 5k, Great Pumpkin Challenge 10k, Stockade-athon 15k
3. I runfess…
My 18 miler wasn’t as bad as I thought because I stopped several times during the “run.”
- After mile 1.5 to meet friends
- After mile 9.5
- After mile 11 waiting for the 5k to start
- After mile 14 hanging after the race.
How did my 20 miler go? It was much harder but again, it helped to have along for some of the miles.
4. I runfess…
I’ve never just run. I’ve always started out fast, add walks when I feel like it and walk more frequently as I go… I don’t wear my Garmin.
When I run with friends, I allow them to set intervals on their Garmin.
I finally realized that intervals do work and I’ve used the Runkeeper app on my iPhone and set intervals (90:45)
5. I runfess…
I’m still searching for the perfect shoe…
Yes, I still wear Topos but then newer models of Specters and Phantoms don’t feel as comfortable as the older ones (and I’ve gotten blisters.)
They are pretty… but NOT COMFORTABLE!!!
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

Well, I know you’re mad at Altra because they’re the shoe you wore when you sprained your ankle… but you could try them again. Their 4mm drop line is great.
The good thing is, you can run this marathon and then never do another one, and have no FOMO. This training cycle has proved that it’s just not your thing. But, I’m still hoping that you have an incredible time at the actual race- and then you can move on.

I’m trying to change my attitude about this race and enjoy the 26.2 miles in NYC.
The new Altras are fine for walking but the bottom of my foot hurts (neuroma) when I run.

maybe training for this most recent marathon has demonstrated to you what distances you prefer. I have no doubt you will cross the finish line with a smile. Intervals do work and there is no shame in doing them. Almost there!

I love intervals… otherwise I’d be so discouraged. And yes, a marathon runner is not me.

My racing stats are low in comparison to previous years. I blame my crazy spring (selling/buying a house, moving, and the insane time needed to do all that & still my usual day-to-day stuff) and my summer of numerous commuting miles (which put a small kink into my “at home” running time). But onward!

I don’t love my Saucony Endophin Speed and Pros as much as the v2. So I’ve been trying out some New Balance that I tried at the Brooklyn Half. I like them but will still likely wear the Sauconys for NYC.
I’ll be happy when it’s done, too! 3 marathons in 5 weeks is a lot!

That is a lot of miles.
One more week.

I just bought the brand new Adrenalines, completely untested. I’m going to crack them open this week, and hope they feel good.
Shoes are so frustrating sometimes.
You will be all ready to go after this marathon training cycle!

A big no on the Altras. Back to Topos I guess.

Oh wow I’m so sorry the Topos aren’t working for you anymore. That’s so frustrating. NYCM will be here SO soon and then you can focus on the shorter distances you love. Yay!

Looking forward to the race. And after.
I’m going with the Topos since I trained with them.
