It’s that time of the month…
time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.
Confession: I write my blog posts way ahead… sometimes that’s a good thing. Other times I should have waited.
Today I should have waited…
Read my Weekly Run Down to get the current update.
1.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I had planned my last half marathon as a training run…
But I was very disappointed in how untrained I felt while running. It was not the course or the weather or an injury (although my feet did hurt).
It was all me… and so I am doubting my decision to run 26.2 miles..
2. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I think I’ve replaced my love for ice cream with Starbucks cold brew…
I’ll admit that I don’t buy it when I work from home but some weeks it’s been 4x since I either go to the office or the training lab (pass by Starbucks).
I started with Chocolate Cream Cold Brew and then moved on to White Chocolate Macadamia and now ’tis the season for Pumpkin.
I wonder what they will offer next?
3. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that last December I won a free race entry at the Hot Chocolate 15k in Tampa, Fl.
I am going back on a different weekend and there’s no other race nearby or on a convenient date.
“No live event near you? No problem! Get your chocolate fix from anywhere with the Hot Chocolate 5K, 10K, and 15K virtual run. Warm up your hot chocolate, pick your favorite running trail, and we’ll ship your runner’s kit including your exclusive Hot Chocolate Run swag (a JACKET, chocolate, hot chocolate mix), finisher’s medal, and virtual bib right to your door!”
So WTH, I’ll just run it virtually…
4.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that my work trip to NYC will be returning. One in Sept, two in October and one in December.
Three days have been cut out already and after January, I may no longer need to go there.
So I’m planning my running routes.
-
- Roosevelt Island mural display – Sept
- Hudson R. – Oct
- Central Pak – Dec.
5. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I’m still debating about short race vs long run but after last weekend’s debacle, I think I need a confidence booster.
I will probably do the races and add on more miles before, after or the next day to make it count as a long run.
Sept 28 – 10K + 6 more = 12 miler

Oct 5 – 5k + 13 more = 18 miler (this race starts at 11 am)
Happy Running! What’s new with you? Please share.

Darlene, you still have PLENTY OF TIME before the marathon. Keep at it, and things will turn around. Imagine some beautiful cool fall weather, and suddenly having lots of energy for your runs. It will happen, just don’t give up.
I love that mug at the top of your post! And… I’m sure Starbucks will have some sort of December-themed cold brew in a couple months. All your beverages sound delicious.

My running is on hold. Fingers crossed that NYCM still can happen.

I do remember that pumpkin cold brew being quite delicious last year. This year I haven’t yet enjoyed any of the seasonal drinks. Now that my daughter is working there, I haven’t been going.
Just keep building your endurance for NYCM and all will be fine!

I never tried cold brew until recently. It is good.
NYCM is on hold. You’ll see why in my WRD.

Hey- you still have just about 2 months until NYC. You can do this- even just for the experience! I, on the other hand was just using the Half last weekend as a stepping stone to the Full. I felt fine and strong the whole way… but, I was running slow🙃. Oh well, on to another marathon experience!

Slow is very individual… we finished at the same time.
Anyway, I’m not running AGAIN now so I’ll need your advice on whether to do NYCM or not.

Nope. Boating accident on Labor Day. Head injury and bruised ribs… not sure how long until I can run and if I could be prepared by Nov. 3. Finger crossed.

Oh… so sorry to hear. What does your doc say- or, did you even ask him about running? With bruised ribs you have to wait until you are not having discomfort with running. Head injury- eh- how bad? Did you pass out? Have to wait at least a week or so to run. This is the ER nurse in me speaking. Feel better.

One week for head injury and stitches are out.
Running when it’s doesn’t hurt. No idea on that. I can walk fine with no pain. This is new territory for me.

Yeah, your ribs might be the area that bothers you when running, but, only time will tell.

you definitely are giving yourself options with races & long run miles. I’ve done one Hot Chocolate in person (with Deborah) and one virtually … both were fun, and the swag is incredible! I love the jackets!

I agree. I love the swag.

Oh no I’m sorry you’re injured and running is on hold. Is there any way to defer NYC?
I’ve not tried Starbucks Cold Brew but will have to check it out.

Yes. Let me know if you like the cold brew.
No deferral but guaranteed entry to next year. I definitely won’t do that. I’ll either skip it totally or walk. Too soon to decide. I have until Nov 2.

You can’t let one bad race get you down! Especially not in the summer. I had a terrible run at the Chicago 13.1 in June and the rest of the summer has gone fine. Better to dust yourself off and move on!
The Hot Chocolate Swag is usually pretty great! So do the virtual if it’s free.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and just when I have moved on, I can’t run. Hope it’s short-lived and I get to run NYC again!

Oh no, I am sorry to hear about the marathon. I love the Hot Chocolate swag. Do run it virtually since it is free anyway. I’ve been seeing ads for the one here in Chicago and have been thinking of signing up. But that will happen if I start running consistently again.

Yes. I did it virtually and used my half marathon miles from last weekend.
The marathon is up in the air. I haven’t cancelled. Though maybe I should.

Have you tried the salted caramel cold brew? I much prefer that to the pumpkin spice.
I’m sorry about the marathon. I know you’ve been back and forth so much.

No. I need to I think. lol.
And even more back and forth now about the race.

Pumpkin should not exist, but should give way to peppermint at all times.
You will be OK for the marathon. Summer running sucks.
Which Roosevelt Island murals?

painting there this Saturday.
The weather lately has been great. At least my legs still work.
