It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
This month I do have a few GYMfessions too…
1. I gymfess…
As I have mentioned before, one of the perks of mentoring or participating in the Freihofer Training Challenge was a 12 week FREE membership to the YMCA.
Yup, that was the main reason for my participation. And I did work out there faithfully most mornings before work.
2. I gymfess…
The race mentioned above took place on June 3.
So that meant that my gym membership ended that day.
I got up early the Monday after the race and headed to the gym to inquire about joining.
The guy at the desk was busy so I just scanned my card and IT WORKED.
And I did my usual workout.

3. I gymfess…
Yes, I felt guilty. So on my way out, I informed the guy at the desk that the FTC membership was supposed to end on June 3 but my card still worked.
He checked the system and it said that it was good until JULY 1st!! Phew…
So I went back to my regularly scheduled gym workouts…
4. I gymfess…
Membership to the YMCA is pretty pricey but supposedly if I joined before June 18, they would at least waive the $100 sign-up fee.
Yup, I informed the guy at the desk of the deadline and he said that he would extend it for me until July 1.
Stay tuned…
Will I

5. I runfess…
because this is a RUNNIING BLOG (lol)
I had said that after I broke my foot and recovered, I would be happy just to run… my pace wouldn’t matter!
And it was and still is true for longer races.
However, I do admit that I was a little annoyed when I realized that I ran the Freihofer 5k race for a PW with around the same finish time as 10 years earlier WITH A BROKEN FOOT.
Well, something similar happened with a 5k race two weeks after: Valley Cats 5k.
2016: 28:47
2022: 28:43
2023: 29:11
I don’t know if I can run faster but I’m not giving up hope and may even do some speed work to prepare for the FRW and Valley Cats 5ks in 2024.
Happy Running! Anything to gym or runfess this month? Do you belong to a gym? Are you still trying to run faster? Please share.
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida!

That’s great your membership was extended. Good for you getting to the gym consistently! Yeah no. I don’t try to run faster. Been there, done that, don’t care.

I figured that was your answer. Why? You’ve done all the majors.

I think it’s great that you have been using your gym membership. Strength training is so important as we age. I vote for keeping it 🙂

Ok. Thanks for the encouragement

I agree with Deborah – you seem to be liking the gym so I’d keep the membership.
I did speedwork for the first time in ages this week – it wasn’t pretty lol. I’m going to just embrace my turtle pace.

Yes. I think I’m going to embrace whatever my pace happens to be.

Yes! Keep the gym membership. Especially since if you sign up now you’ll get the $100 waived. I will just say one thing… I don’t know how much the monthly fee is, but at YouFit I pay $15 a month. I know the Y here is more expensive. Have you checked to see if there are any cheaper gyms? But, if you like the Y and it’s convenient, definitely stick with that.
Ugh, speed. I’m trying! It’s definitely discouraging to run so much slower than just a few years ago. But, you’re running very consistently and placing in your AG so… maybe you’re happy to continue doing what you’re doing. Speedwork increases your risk of injury so maybe it’s not worth it.

Good point about injuries.
Y is more convenient. Had classes track pool etc.

Cool on the membership! Great perk for leading the group.
You can still run a sub 30 5K ten years later – I call that a win!

Thanks! You’re right… win win.

I do go to the gym. Our YMCA’s in the area are ridiculously expensive, but fortunately there are many gyms to choose from that are reasonably priced. I think lifting heavy is even more important now that I’m in my 50’s and I’m fighting against the inevitable muscle loss that comes with aging. Good luck with the gym membership!

Yup… I’m hoping those arm machines will help those saging muscles.

That’s great news about the gum! Sounds like you’re kind of liking it (?) 😉 I was hoping to do some sporadic speedwork this summer, since I didn’t have anything on my fall calendar (yet). And we all know how that’s going at the moment, LOL…

I plan on speed work but then it never happens…
I don’t hate the gym LOL

Whatever works.. we all want different things. I need my running buddies in my life so that helps get me out there.

I love that your membership was extended. I mean, whatever it will take to keep you going to the gym, lol.
Trail running is a great way to help me accept a slower pace. That last road half really hurt my ego, lol

I know what you mean. I’d run trails if I weren’t so clumsy.

That’s awesome that they extended your membership. Can’t wait to see what you do!
Right now, I’m not trying to run faster. The heat index is like 114. I’m good LOL.

LOL on the gym — just do it! Especially with the poor air quality this summer.
I think I CAN run faster but I seem to not want to push myself so hard anymore!

Yes, it’s a lot of work to get faster and I’m not sure it’s worth it.

I know what you mean… I feel the same. Not willing to do what it takes to get faster.
