FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for Feb. 2023

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

As I am writing this post, I have sunshine on my mind for obvious reasons.

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that these cloudy skies are really getting me down. I don’t mind the cold temps and the snow as long as the roads are clear.

if you always have sunglasses, will the sun come out??

But I need SUN!!

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that luckily I have SIX friends who winter in Florida (on the east coast) and they ask me to come down and stay with them.

I’ll be there visiting them (and looking for sunshine) Feb. 14 12-19!!!

3.Over coffee

I’d tell you that I love our free winter local races and so I signed up for all FIVE!

But because a friend’s husband recently died of Parkinson’s, I decided to move up my vacation in Florida and add a stay with her for two days.

So I am going to miss the 5th race on Feb. 12…

But I think I made the right decision!!

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I am excited to connect with fellow blogger Jenny again.  Not sure if we will meet up in Boca where she lives (and I’m staying) or just at the Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon we are both racing.

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I can’t wait to see the ocean and run at sunrise!!!

Fingers crossed to clear skies….

** One more for good measure – Over coffee…

I’d tell you that even with the snowy gloomy January weather, I did have a strong start to 2023.

In order to reach my annual 1000 mile goal, I need to run around 84 miles each month.

In January, I ran:

MILES!!

This gives me a cushion for June & July when the weather heats up and I have no half marathons to train for.

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Will you get a chance if you live up North to escape the cold temps? Does the lack of sunshine bother you? Have you started off 2023 strong? Please share.

  1. I’m sure that your friend will appreciate your support. I know my husband’s cousins were very appreciative. Now, if it could have been FL instead of NJ — but then we wouldn’t have gone.

Hope you have great weather for your race & vacation.

    • Fla… warm weather. I would have hopped on a plane for sure LOL

It seems to RAIN most years for my FL races but hopefully there will be some beach weather in the mix.

  2. Yes, the lack of sunshine is one of the worst things about winter. Usually it’s still at least sunny here but this winter has seemed more cloudy than before so that’s been hard. I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s husband. It sounds like you definitely made the right choice to move your vacation. Fingers crossed for perfect weather while you’re there!

    • Same… that’s why I am trying to get in some consistent miles when I can.

Fla can be very cold or very warm this time of year … hope I get lucky.

  3. Enjoy Florida and soak up that sunshine! We had the cloudiest January in history and yep, the bright sunshine we have now is everything!

Nice work on those miles! I had 77 in January. I expect to up my mileage as I begin training for my April trail race.

    • yes it’s sunny now… but freezing and windy!!! I think I may prefer clouds.

I bet you do increase your mileage as you start training for t hat race.

  4. Darlene, I’m looking forward to seeing you! Now that it’s getting close, let’s talk about plans. I’ll send you an email. You’ll be down here for a full week so maybe we can get together before the race.
There will be plenty of sunshine for you!

    • That would be great. I’ll be in Boca Feb 12-13 and then in Delray Feb 16-17. Though it’s hard to plan since I’m staying with friends. Now are runners or early risers so perhaps a sunrise coffee/tea.

  5. I am soooo with you on the sunshine. I’ve been in Michigan over 20 years now and I whine every single winter. It’s not the cold, although I don’t like that either, but the lack of sunshine that really gets to me. I was born and raised in Florida and some days I’d love to just move back there. My husband and kids love it here though. I do think I’ll be a snowbird when I get a little older.

  6. Nice job on those January miles! It was ridiculously cold here today – single digit temps and sub-ZERO windchill. At least there was sunshine this afternoon. But tomorrow it’s supposed to be in the mid-40’s in the afternoon.

  7. You are off to a great start on your mileage goal! It looks like your trip to FL lines up with my trip to VT. I’m sure you made the right decision to spend more time in FL to visit your friend.

The sun does make a world of difference in the weather and my mood.
