My 12 miler is to be completed today.
And in TWO weeks, I’ll be towing the line for my first half marathon of 2023…. in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
It will hopefully be fun with ocean views, sunshine and warm temps (not too warm but warmer than up North.)
Last Week:
- Sunday – After a 11 mile run the previous day, I signed up for the 5.5k race with my friends. It turned out to 3.8 (not 3.4) miles but a lovely day and lots bonding time with my racing friends.
- Monday – #Nevermissamonday…. A little beat from last week’s stress but I had some errands to do at lunch so I also squeezed in a run.
- Tuesday – I try not to run so many days in a row but when it’s dry and the next day is booked, you just “do ‘it.”
Snow flurries and temps in the teens (with the wind chill) kept me inside during lunch.
I was happy to be able to get in a few miles right after work… it’s great that now it stays light until 5 pm.
- Wednesday – Finally a rest day (sunny but FREEZING) and my dinner with my tennis friends (that got cancelled last week) happened. I do miss playing tennis with these lovely ladies.
- Thursday – Finally a great sunrise. I wish I had time to go out for a run but I did not…
Believe it not, I skipped dinner out and a play in order to run.
I hadn’t run at UAlbany in awhile so I met up after work with a friend for a loop around the campus.
- Friday – Rest Day, a trip to the office, and the evening with my mah jongg ladies. Soooo cold and wind gusts up to 50 mph!!!
- Saturday – Long Run Day (12 miles). With negative temps predicted, I happily agreed to postpone until Sunday.
Definitely a day to catch up with things around the house. The weather forecasters were not exaggerating.
And then take in a movie with the hubby.

The book and the original movie (A Man called Ove) were better but always enjoy a Tom Hanks performance
- Sunday – Definitely a warmer day. Not warm but better. Luckily my running friends are able to join me for a run and then brunch.
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – DAY OFF – run (early), hike
- Tuesday – run (at lunch), b-day dinner w/stepson
- Wednesday – run (after work)
- Thursday – rest day, hair appt
- Friday – rest day, mah jongg
- Saturday – the Taper (8-10 miles), pack
- Sunday – early flight to Ft. Lauderdale, FL
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – NYC Marathon 2023 – Yay or Nay?
- Friday – 5 Things to Love About Running

I was wondering if Tom Hanks’ new movie was A Man Called Ove! That was such a charming movie–I guess I’ll have to check out Tom’s version to see if it holds up.
Nice week for you! Enjoy your run today.

You are definitely ready for your race. I hope you have better Florida weather than I did. It was 87 on Friday and super hot. Then rain all Saturday. It’s clearing this morning and very humid-not ideal running weather.

I want heat but not on race day. Lol.

I saw Otto a couple weeks ago, LOVED it (but anything with Tom Hanks is usually a hit with me). I was happy to get all my runs done outdoors last week (by default, LOL), and the weather was cold but very bearable. Looks like it was wickedly cold everywhere last week!

I feel the same. I run outdoors. No choice. I survived.

Well, right now the forecast for the day you arrive (the 12th) and a couple days after looks beautiful! Cool in the morning and then warm and sunny during the day. If this holds, you’ll love it. Of course I don’t know what
race day will be like- we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

At this point I don’t care. As long as there’s no rain.

Smart move to switch your run from yesterday to today with those extremely cold temps. It’s much warmer here today, too.
I bet you’re counting down the days until you go to Florida. 🙂

It was not as warm as predicted and still windy. Ugh.
7 more days!!

A half marathon in Florida sounds great! You seem to have some good clear roads despite the wintry weather. But your temperatures are quite wild… we had something like that (and worse) now and then in Sweden. I’m not a fan of it at all. I hope you got your long run today!
We’d like to see that A man called Otto film. I don’t expect it to be as good as the original.. but I also really like everything with Tom Hanks.

That sunrise is lovely! It’s so cold though!
I wonder why they changed Ove to Otto for the movie? Did they think Ove would sound to “foreign” to us? 😉

The movie is Americanized. Did you see it?

I hope you have a fantastic time next week! I do most of my runs solo. It’s weird how everyone’s different with that. I do have some people I run with, but I really enjoy the alone time. It helps me clear my head.
I vaguely remembering learning to play tennis in high school, but that’s I think the only time I played. I think it’d be a fun sport though.

Tennis is fun but I actually enjoy running more. Totally different.
I don’t mind short runs solo but for the long runs chatting make the miles go by faster.

Safe travels! I am still outside for runs, even when I am getting rained on in cold temps! What can you do! I’m so glad you got to enjoy dinner with your tennis friends, even if you did miss out on the play!

A movie date with hubby is always such a great treat! We haven’t done one in ages, so this is a good reminder to do more of that again! And I also love Tom Hanks!
