One week until my half marathon! That meant that I was in taper mode.
What not run 9.3 miles in a race??
Yes, that’s what I did.
Happy to report that the temps last week were not as cold as the previous week. But turning back the clocks was a real downer!! I am one of those runners that usually runs and walks after work. 😦
Last Week:
- Sunday – While nervously tracking my friends running the NYC Marathon, I went on two hikes (Falling Waters Preserve and Opus40). The weather was absolutely perfect for us all.
- Monday – #nevermissamonday. I was able to get my run done on the rail tail during my lunch break.
After work, I had an appt to see if I could volunteer my time helping immigrant kids with their homework (I know I complain that I have no time to work out but it’s important for me to help others besides myself)
- Tuesday – Another opportunity to run in my ‘hood during lunch. I wanted to be able to walk after work with two friends. Unfortunately with the lack of light, we have to walk around the outdoor mall.
- Wednesday – Rest day. It rained early but it was a busy work day and I was only able to get outside for a walk after work with a friend.
- Thursday – Day off from work for Veteran’s Day. It was so nice to be able to linger over breakfast and then drive somewhere for my weekday run. I decided on the Colonie Town Park Bike Path since I hadn’t been there in awhile.

some cute kids were giving away their books for free and if you took one, you got candy…so cute. I couldn’t carry the book but got a kit kat anyway lol
I hung around after and did some exploring on the trails…
- Friday – Another rest day. And a miserable rainy day it was. I walked at lunch and then played mah jongg (at my house) in the evening.
- Saturday – Normally this is my long run day but instead I walked with my friends and then went out for brunch.

it was a beautiful morning but as soon as we were done with brunch, it started to rain and it rained ALL day.
I also picked up my bib for the next day’s race at our local Fleet Feet store and did some errands (in the rain).
Then I relaxed and carb loaded with pizza and tried to figure out what to wear for the race the next day.
- Sunday – Race Day! Stockade-athon 15K. It was my 8th time running this race, I always enjoy the varied course scenery, downhill finish and all the familiar faces. It was harder than I remembered but the weather was great. Now that’s it’s over, I’m glad that I ran it. lol
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – rest day, volunteering
- Tuesday – run at lunch, walk with friends
- Wednesday – run after work, walk with BFF
- Thursday – run at lunch, museum and dinner out with tennis friends
- Friday -rest day, mah jongg
- Saturday – rest day, walk with friends
- Sunday – Upstate Classic Half Marathon, pick up Turkey Trot bib, anniversary mah jongg dinner

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any in-person races planned? How is the time change affecting your running? Please share.
No running for me since I finally get to take a break after my last race. My body was ready for a break, too. After a couple weeks of just long walks I’ll start running just for fun and to keep the holiday pounds at bay.

Congrats on another great race. 15K is not an easy distance! And you have another Half Marathon next week? I think you are making up for 2020. 😉

I’m trying. I like the 15k distance but it was a hilly course.

That’s funny, I run at Colonie Park a LOT because it’s just so close. I actually do some of the trails off of the path sometimes — well, I used to last year a lot, but not this year because of all the rain.
Glad you enjoyed the race. It’s definitely a challenging one.

There’s no lights there so I don’t go often. A nice change of pace from all the usual bike paths.
It’s one of my favorite courses because of the variety. But those hills. Yikes.

This was my 18th I think this year. Still restrictions but at least I’m racing.

Your weather sounds a lot like mine. I had a 10-mile race (today) I’ve been on the fence with running. I’m glad I took a pass because it was cold this morning (18F feels-like) and 24mph wind. W also had rain last night, so the air is really damp and miserable.

It was nice today. Sunny and 40. But then it got windy and the sun went in.

15k is an interesting distance- not many races of that distance though so fun to do for a change! Glad you had fun and good luck next weekend Darlene!

Yes very few 15ks around here. There’s one in NYC in Dec that is tempting. I like the distance. It’s when I die in a half.

Yes, I can see how the time change would mess up your schedule! I like having it light earlier in the morning.
The weather in your photos looks really beautiful- love all those blue skies.
Can’t wait for the race recap!

I love these 15k races – are they a thing there? I don’t think I’ve ever come across one in the UK!

Not common at all. We have only have two in our area. I love this distance.

Congrats on your race! I like the idea of the 15K distance, though I’ve never run one. I’m always amazed at how many races you have so close by. It seems like a lot of the usual races here have all been bumped to next year.

We have many races. I feel lucky. I wish there were more 15ks. That is when I crash in a half marathon.

Congrats on your race, a hilly 15km was a big challenge! And this week a half!
15 km races are not usual around here. I have raced on this distance only once.
Fall looks beautiful there. Nice photos.

15K is not a common distance. I wish there were more races of this distance. Fall is beautiful here but the leaves are falling rapidly. sigh

Congrats on another race! I really like the 15K distance but I think I’ve only done two 15K races – not an easy distance to find around here, that’s for sure!

This is the most popular race at this distance…not many others. I like this distance too.

I’ve never done a 15k. Sounds like a fun way to get in some miles! Congrats and good luck with your next half!

Awesome! I totally forgot about the time change in my recap! I hate the darker nights and missing all the beautiful sunrises. I was glad to get an extra hour of sleep that night but I’m over it. The best thing is that my kiddo no longer has to ride his bike to school in the dark (he leaves at 6:45 and it’s DARK the rest of the year).

Mornings are great now. If only it weren’t so cold up here.

Good job on your 8th time running this race! Funny how the same races don’t get any easier as you run them more. I know the feeling! 🙂

I know. Sometimes they get harder. Oh wait. We get older.
