The house was still a disaster zone. Not just the kitchen but now the family room, as well.
Finally, I had a Saturday without a race scheduled so I was able to do my long run in preparation for my next half marathon.
Last Week:
- Monday – They started installing kitchen floor. After emptying the family room, it was decided not to put in a new floor…UGH! Instead we may either clean the existing carpeting or buy new carpeting (Either way, I’m NOT putting that clutter back!)
After work, I ran with the ladies in the FTC group. Always a good workout when running with others.
- Tuesday – Normally a walk day but I had a hair appt. after work and then had to rush home for a college reunion ZOOM.
- Wednesday – In the office today meant a walk at lunch. There were rain and thunderstorms in the forecast. Fingers crossed that they would start late.
There was also a SOAR group run scheduled but I decided instead to run at UAlbany and follow it with a walk with my BFF (We hadn’t caught up in a while.)
The rain did come earlier than I hoped but I was able to squeeze in a few miles near work.
- Thursday – I ran before work today since I thought that we would be walking the trails after work.
This week we had planned on the Water Tower trail (part of the Pinebush trail system) but many couldn’t make it so we postponed until next Thursday. Instead I met Heidi to run on the Corning bike path along the Hudson R.. The second run of the day made up for my rained shortened run the day before.
The kitchen reno is done for now:
- Friday – On the reno front, the kitchen was supposed to be measured for the granite countertops. I waited and skipped my lunch walk and they cancelled for the second time!!! Grrr
Not much other activity today. After work, my tennis friends and I had tickets to hear Aztec Two Step perform Simon and Garfunkel songs.

This was so fun but would have been even better to sing along without masks lol
Of course, we met for a delicious dinner beforehand.
- Saturday – Back to half marathon training. Today I ran 12 miles with Sherry, Heidi and Deirdre. After, we met the others for brunch.
Then I rushed home hoping the countertop guy would show up. He did!!! Hopefully they will be installed in a week or two.
But I think going up and down the stairs to put stuff back in the cabinets (and de-cluttering at the same time) may have been more tiring than the 12 miles.
- Sunday – Relaxing in the sun on our boat…

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any in-person races planned? Is the weather interfering with your runs? Please share.
another solid week of training for you Darlene! I am sure it’s frustrating to have all the work stall in your kitchen but it will be fabulous when it’s done. Happy running this week enjoy your cooler temps

The temps are up and down.
Yes can’t wait to have water.

You’re making progress on your kitchen reno! Everything looks nice. It’s so hard to be upended during the process, tho. Just keep running and it will keep you calm, lol

Yes. I agree with that.

Ugh on the stalled kitchen installation. It sounds like it’s getting close though. Yeah on Friehofer coming up! I know you do that race every year.

Yes it’s my favorite race.
It’s almost done. Except for the important stuff. Water. Lol.

Frustrating to have the reno stalled – hopefully it’s just a blip.
Nice job on your long run!

It is what it is. Can’t wait to look back on it.
Long run was hard. At least it’s done.

I guess I’m glad when we redid our kitchen it was basically adding to it, not redoing the (very) old cabinets — aside from going into our front hall closet to take space to expand our (still teeny) pantry. So at least I almost always had a functioning kitchen. Good luck!
Very glad I ran today. Much nicer!

Nicer when you can run with others. I don’t plan my runs around the weather. Lol.
I think the inconvenience will be worth it in the end. That’s why we decided on all new everything.

When we were doing ours this was only supposed to be a temporary assignment.

How many years ago was that?

12. Has a ways to go to beat the temporary assignment in TX which turned into 17 years.

Hopefully your kitchen will be done soon and you can enjoy it! Great job getting in those 12 miles this weekend. Its tough in the humidity!

Nice job on the 12 miler. I wish I could have run it with you- it looks like a beautiful area! You’ll be ready for your half.
Good luck on the 5k(+5!)

The 12 miler was hard. Hope the half is easier and the weather less humid.

Great job on your long run, and having brunch with friends afterward – sounds fun!
Ugh on the delayed kitchen remodel. Here’s hoping the granite gets installed on the early end of your expected timeframe. I’m sure the end result will be worth the wait.

Fingers crossed. We have countertops soon.
We pick our brunch locations before our run locations. Lol

Oh, I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel on my mom’s records and love them. What a fun event!
The kitchen is looking so nice! But I’m sure you’re anxious for it to be done already.

Loved them. Great musical memories

Great week of activity Darlene! Sorry the kitchen reno seemed to have stalled exactly where ours did. It’s such a bummer the counter person was a no-show. Hopefully this week will bring some progress for both of us!

I’m glad that the countertop guy finally showed up later on in the week – I know that must have been stressful/annoying! From what I can see so far the kitchen looks awesome so far so I’m sure the end result will be great!
The Zoom college reunion sounds pretty cool! I was supposed to have a high school reunion this year but no one from my graduating class wanted to plan it lol.

Same with high school. They want a live one so maybe next year.

I love your new kitchen floor! Great job getting the miles in! It’s still hot and humid here and I can’t wait until it cools down and the humidity drops. It’s way to late in the year for it to still be in the 90’s!

Yes. But then when it’s freezing we’ll be complaining so I hate the rush the warm weather away. With it goes the daylight.

Love, love, love the new floors! I’m sorry they haven’t been able to get your granite measured. I want our kitchen redone, and I want to burn all the carpet in my house. I hate it!

I hate hate ALL the carpet….but it’s so expensive to do those floors everywhere. For now, it’s just the kitchen. Fingers crossed that the countertops will in next week.

I love how the kitchen looks.
After hardwoods for so long I don’t think I could live anywhere with carpet
Shame you didn’t have a UALbany race Saturday 😀

Carpeting is also impossible to keep clean. I’d get rid of it all if I had the $$$.
Unfortunately I need one good long run before my next half. I would have run if I hadn’t already signed up for a 5k last week and one next week. We’ll have to do it next year.
