FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for May ’21

It’s that time of the month…

Starbucks Coffee City Mug Collection- Florida, 16 Oz Cup

time to join up with Coco & Deborah
for their ultimate coffee date.

I am very excited to have just returned Florida.

Don’t worry. I still drank coffee every morning.

But there was a lot of more this going on:

1. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that since it’s been awhile since I’ve gotten my second COVID vaccine, I was a lot less nervous about flying. Of course, there was still a mask requirement (so that we protect others who may not have gotten the vaccines.)

Have you flown yet? If so, how did you feel?

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I was a little disappointed that they changed the date of the 5k race that I always run during this vacation. So I was not able to add any mugs to my collection.

Do you still go on vacations without a race planned? If so, are you disappointed to not be racing?

3.Over coffee/wine…

I’d tell you that when on a group vacation, it’s a little hard to get the runs in. I did my best but my weekend 10 mile run did not take place.

lots of tennis replaced my running

Do you skip long runs when on vacation?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that most of the local races are not happening but there are a few that have been scheduled:

    • May 8 – Schoharie 5k
    • May 8 – Prospect Mountain 5.7m Race
    • May 22 – Bacon Hill 5k
    • May 23 – Super Hero 5k
    • May 30 – Miles Along the Mohawk 5m or 10m or Marathon

I usually, in the spring, race EVERY weekend but so far, I’ve only signed up for the 5k on May 22 and the 10 miler on May 30.

Are races happening where you live? Have you signed up for any?

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that again this year, I’ve been named an ambassador for the Freihofer Run for Women.

It’s a popular 5k and one of my favorites. It was cancelled last year and this year, it has been postponed until Sept 25. (If you want to run it or do it virtually, sign up with this code: AMBDC10 for get $10 off. (I will also be giving way TWO free entries.)

Exciting, right?

I am also a ZOOMA Ambassador. Guess when the Cape Cod Zooma Race weekend is?

September 25-26, 2021

Yup, same time!!!

Any advice? Which would you choose? Anyone else running ZOOMA Cape Cod?

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Any trips or races planned? Please share.

  1. Oh, gosh on the races being the same day. If I were you I’d probably do the Friehofer, unless you think you’ll have other friends doing Cape Cod … Tough choice!
On a vacation iwth friends time with friends is most important.

  2. Oh, it’s funny those two races are on the same day. Now there are too MANY races!!! Sounds like you’re a little more passionate about the Feihofer.
Glad you enjoyed your Florida trip! Your body probably enjoyed the change and a little rest from your usual long run. I’m sure you’ll be back at it this weekend though!

  3. It sounds like you are having a wonderful time on your trip! Because most of our trips are to our beach house with a lot of down time, we pretty much always fit our long runs in. These days, though, we take our bikes since neither of us can run long distances anymore.

I think I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, but yes, we will be flying in late May when we go to Florida for a long weekend. I’m really looking forward to this getaway with our youngest son and his fiancée. We’ll be checking out the venue where we have the rehearsal dinner planned.

    • Yup, you mentioned going there. Enjoy. It is hot!!

And yes I had a fantastic time. So relaxing to get away. I planned on riding a bike but never got around to it. I played more tennis than I thought I would.

  4. Looks like you had a fabulous time on your trip! That’s not nice…two races on the same day! I guess it’s a good problem (considering the past year we’ve all endured with no races), but still. It’s tough to choose. I don’t get too OCD-ish about long runs whenI ‘m on vacation. I try to run when it fits my schedule, but I don’t let my running dictate it.

    • Same. I enjoyed my time n the sun and running was just secondary. I think there will be a lot of overlapping races this fall.

  5. Looks like you had a great vacation! So nice to be with all of your friends. You already have a full race schedule! I have always wanted to do the Zooma cape cod race and the timing has not worked for me. I would pick that one!

    • It was a great time in Florida.

I’ve always wanted to do ZOOMA cape cod too. It depends if I can get a roommate. I could do the other race virtually or head to the Cape after the race.

  6. Too bad the races are on the same day! Which one will you do? I am coming up to the Cape in June. I will have to look for a race there at that time.

I definitely did not do a long run when we were out in Colorado visiting my grandson. No oxygen in the air there! The longest run I did was 4 miles!

  7. Well, you know my one trip planned. We really need to see my MIL, but that’s a long flight. Not sure when that’s happening.

I don’t think missing one long run is gonna hurt you.

Mr. Judy actually signed up for something on Freihofers race day. Without consulting me. Then threw a hissy fit when I told him. If I do do Freihofers, and I haven’t decided, we should still be able to juggle things.

  8. You. know, I don’t go on group vacations but if I run I run and if I don’t it’s ok too. We usually are pretty active no matter what so I figure it’s all good. We used to make sure there was a race going on when we’d travel, or we’d do parkrun for example, but since my hernia and of course 2020 happening, it just hasn’t been the same. I hope one day to get back to that.

I would personally do Cape Cod if it were me and I was in the States. But that’s simply because my cousin lives really closeby in Kingston and at least I could combine it with seeing her :).

  9. Love the photo of your drinks in Florida 🙂

There are no local in-person races planned in Stamford or any surrounding cities yet, but I feel like that’s going to change very soon and I will probably see ads for summer/fall races.

  10. Sounds like you had a fun vacation! I’m dying to get away, but not ready to step foot on a plane. I’ll probably feel differently post-vaccine.

Congrats on the Ambassadorships! Too bad about them being the same day. It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen on the Cape – the Town of Falmouth is very conservative so I’m wondering if/when they’ll greenlight the race. The Town still hasn’t approved its big annual road race held in August.

    • I’m wondering about that face as well. Although CT is dropping their mask mandate May 16.

Post vaccine I definitely felt safer.

  11. Is it weird I did not stress about flying while unvaccinated and I’m not stressed about it now that I am? I am just back from ATL and I was sad to see many people not following the mask protocol in the airports or on the plane. I don’t get it. Glad you had fun in FL. I’d get my long run done on vacay ONLY if I had a big race coming up. Otherwise pass!

  12. Seems like a lot of races are overlapping I haven’t registered for anything yet but I would love to go to the Cape.
I’m not worried about flying or going out to eat but I don’t think I’ll be going to the movies for a long while. With all the streaming services who needs to sit in a movie theater for 2 hours with who knows who.

  13. to me racecations and vacations are different, the latter usually have nothing to do with racing. It’s part of why even in normal times I wouldn’t do a race somewhere that I didn’t want to visit anyway so it doesn’t matter if a race is cancelled.

I’m doing June 10 and maybe Pride. Other than that, nothing on the horizon until maybe fall. I don’t like summer racing anyway and I think lots of races outside the marathons are holding off until more info about fall is known

    • I definitely agree. I pick the place first and then add a race ie Paris, Bermuda, etc.

Kusama is planned for Aug 17 when tix go on sale.

I’ll be in NYC Aug 27 for Van Gogh. Tempted to do Ice Cream 10k in Brooklyn on Aug 28 (but no hotel pts).
