It’s that time of the month…
to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.
1.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that when I upped my daily miles in the NYS Challenge from 500K to 1000k, I regretted it at first because I could have been done last month and then now I could rest my foot and start doing some biking.
But it is going well. It’s not as overwhelming as I thought. I should be done by the end of the month or earlier.
It’s all good.
Are any of you participating in these challenges? If so, how are you doing?
2.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that although I am moving a lot each day, it’s not because I have been running a lot.
March – 91 miles
April – 89 miles
May – 86.5 miles
June – 82 miles
July – 78 miles
Notice a trend??
Yup, fewer miles each month. I’m still on track to finish 1000 miles for the year but barely. (84 miles monthly is about what I need…)
Why the drop in running miles?
No half marathons not even virtual ones scheduled for June and July and maybe none for the rest of the year. Minimal running during the week because I am walking and hiking a lot more. No need to train for any races. Just enjoying my social distanced group Saturday runs and brunches.
How is your monthly mileage? Running more or less?
3.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I cancelled my Peleton trial subscription. If I had a stationary bike or treadmill, I may have kept paying. I don’t do any yoga or strength training. Running is my thing and only outdoor running now that the gyms are closed. Even you preload the class before you run, it still uses data (and I do not have an unlimited plan.)
I do have FOMO when I read about all the fun Peleton classes many runners are taking. Maybe I’ll be back if I can afford to buy a Peleton bike or decide to get a stationary bike or treadmill.
Any one use the Peleton app outdoors? Anyone use it for other things than biking?
4.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I do like my new Topo Fly-Lyte running shoes. I may even try the Magniflys (love those free returns).
For trails, I am wearing Altra Lone Peaks. I like them too.
My foot problem is bearable however, not totally gone. I am still considering the expensive Laser Therapy. Just procrastinating.
Anyone else wear Topos or Altras? If so, which model?
5.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I am not an Intervals runner. I did not even use them to train for or run my marathon.
But with this insanely hot/humid summer, I have run almost all my long runs using them.
Anyone else switch to intervals this summer?
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.
Happy Running! Got anything to spill? Share it here!
I don’t have a stationary bike or a treadmill either. I think the Peloton is really good but if you’re more into running and hiking you don’t get your money’s worth from the app.
I hope you can get the Laser therapy for your foot soon!

Strangely my foot is feeling so much better. Maybe it’s the intervals. Maybe it’s the shoes. We’ll see.

Are the altra lone peaks the ones you found on crazy sale here?
I never tried the Peloton app for the same reason – no data, no bike. I was using the Beachbody app until my subcription lapsed for yoga and strength training, but only because I already had it.
My mileage is up, which isn’t hard since it was about 20 in April. Crazy the volume we were doing this time last year.

Yes. Cheapo and feel great for hiking.
I cannot believe last year on July 1, we started marathon training. What a difference a year makes.

I think given this summer’s heat & humidity I would definitely use intervals if I were running longer. Currently, I can’t get out of the 3-4 lane for most runs.
Good to hear that the NYS Challenge is manageable. Curious to hear more about the laser treatment for your foot. I hope it helps!

My foot is feeling a lot better…maybe it’s the shoes??? Si I am holding off.
If I didn’t have friends to run with I’d be stuck at 3. No mojo.

YES, most of my runs have been using intervals this summer because it has just been way too hot and humid.
I have not jumped on the Pelaton wagon, although I do have a stationary bike and it would probably be a fun thing to be involved in. I just find too many other things I can do for free! Have a great weekend! -M

I agree. I tried it for free but there are many videos that are free.

I’m doing a Run Across Connecticut challenge that ends on August 31st and I’m almost done with my miles for that – I did it as a team with a few other ladies. It has encouraged me to get in more running which is always a good thing.

I was part of a team as well but the others only did 500K and finished. I agree this encouraged me to do more walking which was a good thing too.

Intervals have always been a big help to me especially when coming back from injuries. Looks like you are still keeping up a pretty decent monthly mileage. Sorry to hear that your foot is still bothering you. I am going to try Prolotherapy in a few weeks for my hip and hope that it helps. Thanks for linking for coffee

I hope that helps your hip. Fingers crossed.

My mileage has gone up just because I have more time to run these days. But I think July will probably be my highest mileage for they year. We’ll see. I figure I should plan some downtime before the fall when the weather improves.

That’s great. My mileage is up but not for running. Maybe it’ll increase once it gets cooler.

Believe me, I’ve gotten quite comfortable with run walk to adapt to summer weather. And even more comfortable with just pausing the ol’ garmin from time to time and taking a chill. Runners do what runners gotta do. I think that if I were to try a workout program I would definitely look into Peloton but like you say…I just wanna run.

Right now I’m using intervals, but for a totally different reason. I’m using walk/run intervals as I ease back into running. I always did either intervals or hill workouts one day a week during my training cycles. I always said that the best part of them was the drive home, but they worked so I kept doing them. 😉

I think intervals are great way to get back into running. And if it works, why change?

Good for you for staying so active, especially since your running is “down” (though still decent numbers). I’m at a similar place for 1,000 miles for 2020, but that’s never been a yearly priority. I don’t think I’ll hit the 1,000 this year, but I will be in the upper 900’s. And I’m not gonna cry about it LOL Glad to hear the foot is feeling a little better!

I’m not worried about hitting 1000. It’s just a fun goal. Normally I’m in the 900s.
The foot is a lot better. Maybe I have found MY shoe!!

I am definitely running less. It’s never been about mileage for me though.
I probably wouldn’t have kept the app if I hadn’t already had a treadmill & a stationary bike. I don’t have unlimited data either, far less than you have I’m sure, but I don’t use it for outside stuff. Mainly because my phone just won’t keep a connection with bluetooth headphones unless it’s at chest height. It’s really annoying. No idea why, but nothing I’ve tried has fixed it. And I really don’t like running with wired headphones.
I do do walks with wired headphones sometimes, but that’s from a different app and I can download it & not use data.

Strange. I love my after shokz. They connect automatically. I mostly wear them for walking when I’m alone.

It’s just a weird thing with this phone. I’ve tried a bunch of stuff, none of it worked. Don’t want to wait on the line with Apple. Never wanted to go to the Apple store to sort it out.
With my ipad, I can wear my After Shokz and go downstairs no problem & still hear. It’s the phone. Don’t know why. It is what it is I don’t plan on a new phone anytime soon.

You can make an appt online for the Apple store. Probably don’t want to go now anyway.
But I doubt you would want to run with your ipad lol

I think taking this opportunity to do more walking and hiking is a great idea. We won’t be working from home forever — will we? 😉 I am just finishing the Pelothon challenge and don’t know what to do next. I am hooked on the app but use it for strength and treadmill workouts as well as outdoor runs. With just running outdoors I think the free trial period would have been enough.

I’m not sure how long I’ll be home…no end in sight. It will be a challenge when it gets cold out. So I’m enjoying the weather now.

1000 miles in a year is an amazing goal! That’s cool that you’ve been doing lots of walking/hiking too. I don’t typically run anymore, but back when I did, I tried to do interval training every here and there to break things up!

I didn’t realize you stopped running. Do you plan to start again?

I haven’t for several years but keep meaning to start again. 😅 Would be a good excuse to get outside + enjoy some fresh air on days that I can’t go hiking!

I loved spin classes when I was taking them, and would love a Peloton. But it’s not in the cards right now (I’m looking at new kitchen appliances, which is equally exciting lol). Glad you love those Altras!

Yes I’d love a Peleton but too much $$$
