I LOVE to race.
And everyday, another race that I planned on running is cancelled or postponed… NINE so far. The gyms are also closed…
A little hard to keep the motivation going.
My work trip to NYC was cancelled as well. And on Tuesday, I was ordered to work from home.
Last Week –
- Monday – Cold temps have returned but at least it was sunny. My first run in my new Hokas. Unfortunately it was solo (and not because of social distancing.)
- Tuesday – A rest day due to a scheduled hair appt (not necessary since the Sat wedding was cancelled…oh well.) But I woke up to finding out that I am now working form home. SURPRISE!! So I had to drive to work to get my files, laptop, etc. Definitely not a fan of being at home. At least I could now walk during lunch…
- Wednesday – Day two of work from home and another lunch walk.
Back out there after work. Not in NYC’s Central Park with Cari and Elizabeth as planned but instead I drove to run in Albany’s Washington park. Solo!
- Thursday – A rainy rest day but eventually it stopped so I could go for a walk during lunch
and then again after work.

on the rail trail after stopping off to pick up my new glasses and a new chain for a necklace – both places will be closing after Friday.
- Friday – Working at home. Getting into a routine. Lunch time walk.
Online work meetings- thanks to ZOOM.
69 degrees…had to go for a run. Tired of staying home so I drove to the Crossings followed by a trip to Trader Joes.
No mah jongg. We are taking a break (social distancing….) but I had a second ZOOM video call of day catching up with my mah jongg friends. Gotta love technology.
- Saturday – Normally our Sole Sister Long run day but it got postponed until tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone would want to run with me (even 6 feet away.)
My Yoga for Runners class got cancelled too. Instead, Samara offered it through ZOOM. My first online class and I enjoyed it (and so did my hamstrings). I’m not seeing this as a trend because I’m picky about my yoga instructors but I am comfortable with how she teaches. Next one is in April.
Afterward, I engaged in my usual Saturday activities of cleaning, laundry, etc. Although home, I still work from 8-4 on weekdays.
In the afternoon, I decided to go for a walk since although it was chilly, it was sunny. I decided on Five Rivers (and so dd so many others. I even ran into a running friend.)
- Sunday – Long Run day. It was supposed to be our H2H preview run but that got cancelled (as did the half marathon). I tried to convince my friends to run with me from 6 feet away but no takers. Sigh!
But the advantage of running alone is that I could run wherever and whenever. I decided I needed a different place and a scenic one. So I drove to Waterford. I ran toward Green Island for 3 miles and then back. Then I ran on the river trail in Waterford for 2 miles and back and the last mile was on an old trail.
It was too nice out to go home so I stayed and walked the perimeter of Peebles Island. There were lots of people taking advantage of the weather. I saw an eagle’s nest and two eagles.
As you can see from the top collage, I stopped for ice cream on the way home (a soft-serve kiddie cone:)= my fave )
This Coming Week –
- Monday – rest day
- Tuesday – run
- Wednesday – rest day, walk
- Thursday – run
- Friday – rest day,
mah jonggwalk - Saturday –
5k race. LONG RUN - Sunday – rest day, walk

Happy Running! How is your running going? Anyone training yet for a big 2020 race? Have any of the races that you trained for cancelled? Do you have a treadmill at home? How is this virus affecting you and your family? Please share.
I am wondering when I will get to race again too, Darlene!
We were supposed to be in Asheville this weekend, running the half marathon there. We did it virtually this morning but it was really more like a training run than a race. I didn’t push the pace at all.
At least the temperatures are spring-like, which makes it easy to get outside for a run. Hang in there and stay safe! We may just have to start planning our fall race schedules now! 🙂

I ran NYC as a virtual race but more like a run. I plan to do the same for the April half. I have another in May. Maybe.
No idea when it will end. At least we can run.

I’m all about that ice cream, for sure.
Working from home is hard. My husband has moved his office back home and while he’s ok with it, it gets tough on the rest of the family (he has a hard time shutting it down at the end of the day).
I’m also glad you’re getting in so many walks and runs. That fresh air has to feel great. I am walking every day, napping every day and just trying to take it one day at a time. It’s all we can do.

Yup. So much is out of our control. Stay safe. Keep up that walking. Soon you’ll be running.

I bet your life is greatly changed right now! You have some quirky sights in your neighborhood – love the black bear! You’re lucky you got your hair cut when you did. Mine will be a disaster by the time social distancing is no longer essential!

It was a coincidence. We use zoom for work so I still have to look decent.

Love that bear hug
My hair is going to be a fright when we all go back to normal — I haven’t had a cut & color since before Bermuda.
I haven’t gotten into a lunch walk habit yet, but all about the before (coffee) and after ones. Maybe sunset this week

I’d love to be in NYC for walks. It’s easy to be stuck to the computer. I drag myself out.
I had the hair appt scheduled already Hope this doesn’t last more than 6 weeks. Lol.
Maybe we can do a Zoom meet up one night with Elizabeth.

I can do a Zoom meeting, or we can Facetime.
We have less snow than you, I just FTed the kids

it’s snowing really hard here. Your brother must be working from home. How are they all doing?

they’re hanging in, thanks. It’s a lot with a 5 and 2 year old. I’ve been sending books. We did a Baby Shark duet

Yes running and life has really changed for all of us this week. Way to go on keeping up your runs and getting in an 11 miler too. Ice cream sounds really good! Thanks for linking up and have a good week stay well

Ice cream was great. Glad I went because everything closed at 8 pm last night.

I have a hair appointment scheduled for Thursday, and so far the salons haven’t been required to close. I usually get a reminder message from my gal’s place a few days prior…so fingers crossed 😉 It’s a bummer to have so many races cancelled (or even postponed), but looks like you’re making the best of it.

Another cancelled today for May. I’m not sure if my salon has closed. We’ll see in 5 weeks. Fingers crossed that this ends sooner than later. NY is hit really hard.

All the cancellations have definitely been tough. The area where you’ve been walking by your house looks nice though. Good luck with the working from home!

I’ve always walked most days, even before we had dogs. We were lucky to get out before the snow (and breakfast!) this morning but it was cold. As it was yesterday — it was really cold! I was quite happy to let Mr. Judy walk the dogs without me later (but then again, I’d showered so I had wet hair).

It’s hard to get out of the office when you work but now I make myself.
I walked at lunch today in the snow…it was cold but invigorating. Unfortunately now it’s snowing even harder…might have to skip the 2nd walk.
I thought yesterday was perfect…sunshine and not cold at all. I even had ice cream outdoors.

It was in the 30s when I ran yesterday. And very cold.

same but the sun made me feel warm…no wind. Not single digits. A very mild winter. Yes I know it is spring. Just trying not to be negative. Today’s weather would have sucked.

It was a nice day, and I had a nice run, but I was also really cold. I wouldn’t call it warm at all. It is possible it was a lot colder than where I was, too.

I’ve been wondering when races will be “safe” again as well. My best guess is maybe early summer (June/July), but who knows!

So hold up…you got your hair done? All the salons here closed last week. I’m kinda jealous–I’ve been touching up my roots but in a few weeks, I’m going to be desperate.

just beat the closings…It’s an appt that I had made weeks ago. I hope this ends in less than 6 weeks.

I’m so glad I just got my hair colored, and cut (which is not the norm). I’ll be set for a few months. I’m still going to the office, but people are slowing disappearing as we get their technology set up to work at home. Do people set up crazy backgrounds for the zoom meetings?

How is the foot? I can’t believe 9 of your races were cancelled?!?!?!? I don’t want to sign up for anymore until we have a better idea of when it will be OK to start racing again. So many of my friends have mentioned Zoom so I am late to the party here. I set up an account today but don’t know how to use it. 🙂 I don’t have a treadmill a home either so I am running outside. At least now it is warming up.

Foot is good. I haven’t signed up for all 9 but many. I’m trying to run outside. No other choice. Zoom is easy and fun.
