It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Well, it’s finally spring although it often still feels like winter.
1. I runfess…
I so wanted it to be spring for the United NYC Half that I dressed like it…and I froze. 30s with wind and I wore a skirt, baseball cap and short sleeves. Everyone else was wearing tights, beanie and jacket. Obviously they are smarter than I am.
Thank goodness for heat shields.
Would you rather be cold or warm when you run?
2. I runfess…
After my previous half, I walked around a garden for several hours and then on the beach. I wound up with a strained calf muscle.
So you would think that I’d learn my lesson.
Do you relax after you run a half marathon?
3. I runfess…
Once again I signed up for the Freihofer Training Challenge group. It meets on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Not sure why… FOMO??
I often to my long runs on the weekend (in preparation for my big races) so neither of these days are convenient.
I’ll do my best to attend some of them…but seriously what was I thinking?
Do you belong to a running group?
4. I runfess…
I’ve always been a naysayer about massages, foam rollers and chiropractors.
That was before my recent injury.
Those ART sessions may or may not have made it possible for me to run the NYC Half pain-free.
I told my chiro that I may continue to come see her as maintenance before each of my big races. Hey, the visits are covered by insurance..
I even made a foam roller out of 2 tennis balls.
Do you regularly visit a chiropractor or get sports massages?
5. I runfess…
I was worrying about all my upcoming races that I had (impulsively) signed up for when I was injured. I even skipped one of the my favorite races.
Now I’m back in racing mode.
And I signed up for this one on Sunday.
Do you get FOMO and sign up for a lot of races?
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.
I get so warm when I run, I always am freezing at the start/finish, but I’d rather suffer then than during the race. I *may* have pushed what could be my last PT appointment to next week to make sure I get a *tune-up* shortly before Cherry Blossom.

Hope the weather is better than predicted Sunday.
I prefer to have things with zippers so I can adjust on the run.

I hate being cold and I would never run in shorts or a skirt in that weather. Good for you for getting it done! I know I am atypical, but 60s or even 70s are perfect running temperatures to me! I’m always signing up for races due to some serious FOMO!

I would actually rather be cold than hot when running. When I’m cold I’m not as miserable than when I’m really hot, lol
So glad that you had success with your ART sessions!

I definitely prefer being too warm to too cold. I used to he Italy dress too warm for fins when I started running because I was so afraid of being cold. I’ve gotten a bit better at it now.

Yay on feeling good enough to be in racing mode.
I prefer to be cold — easier to warm up than cool down when I’m over heated and in that case I’m usually not feeling well.
Love your DIY massage ball. While I think your post a couple weeks ago was exactly right that the jury’s out on wehther the treatments are necessary, I think it’s listening to our bodies and can be helpful at times. Expensive though on the regular.
After I did Cherry Blossom last year I walked about another 5M all over the tidal basin. Otherwise I don’t tend to adventure after purely due to lack of interest. January/Lebow, no thanks — January not walkabout weather and there was football to watch. Brooklyn — well we know why. Lauderdale I could have, but opted for pool chill out day to stretch legs which helped.

We’ll see if I am really in racing mode or just in my mind. Lol

Well, I’m a summer weather lover, so I’d much rather be too warm than too cold. No argument.

For a long run/race, I need to start out cold otherwise I’ll heat up too much. It’s challenging to do that when you have to stand around for a while before the start, thought!
As for your signing up again for that training, I think it’s just tradition with you – sign up, miss most of it, but hey, you’re part of the group!

You’re right. It is a tradition

I would definitely rather be cold than too hot when running. And I love a good sports massage – I try to get them regularly. I really do think they help!

That race looked so fun.

I’m FINALLY learning to not have FOMO and not sign up for races like crazy! One year I signed up for about 8 and only did 1 of them – I didn’t even check my schedule before signing up, du’h!

I get it. I signed up for one tomorrow with rain in the forecast.

I had been bad about stretching, foam rollers, etc. However, I have learned that if I want to keep running injury free, it’s as important as running itself!!

It is to a lot of runners.

In all my years of racing I’ve only been too cold at 2 of them. A turkey trot in North Carolina where I packed for summery temps and it was 25 degrees and Tokyo in driving rain after 3 hours. I loathe heat but actually getting too cold really sucks too. I used to only see my chiro when I was injured. Took me awhile to realize I WOULDN’T GET INJURED if I saw him preventively. Live and learn.

Same here. I will see her regularly so I don’t have the same problem again.

I hear you about spring! It was here for a few days, but then the temps dropped back into the 40s! I am ready for sunshine and consistent warm weather!
Best wishes with all your races!

This up and down looks like it will continue for awhile unfortunately.

What a clever way to make a foam roller. You must have been so freezing at that race!! But, I am with you, I want spring too!

I’m so over the cold – but I don’t want to it be super hot, either! No extremes. I agree the NYC Half was freezing – but at least it wasn’t too windy.

I would have been fine if I dressed appropriately. I still loved the race.
I am so ready to be warm. 19 degrees this am.
