Back to the Big Apple for work and a 15k race. A busy week, for sure!
- Monday – Another Turkey Trot Training group run missed. It was raining and I am a weather wimp. Besides I still wasn’t feeling 100%.
- Tuesday – Another rainy day. This weather is getting old but the rain did stop in time to squeeze in a run before tennis. Due to the time change, the only place light enough to run is UAlbany. But I play tennis near Colonie Town Park so I rushed to try to get my run done before it got too dark. And I did. Mostly.
- Wednesday – Off to NYC by train for work. After set-up in Queens, I made it out for a run. Lucky for me, NYC has lights for those working runners. I took the subway to Central Park and ran there. I wished, however, that I could have enjoyed the fall foliage in the daylight. But it was in the 60s so grateful for the warm temps.
- Thursday – Another work day in NYC, Tonight I ran along the Hudson River. And yes, it was lit up there too. Not as warm as the day before but not bad and warmer along the river than in the city. (Strange?)
- Friday – Back home by train. No time to run but it was raining anyway.
- Saturday – I spent the day with my mentee Amanda and her two sons. It had snowed and we froze but they had fun so it was worth it.
- Sunday – Race Day. Today I ran the Stockade-athon 15k. It was my 6th time running it and it’s always a fun time because of all the familiar faces you run into. I was really really tired and I was planning to run the race as a training run for my upcoming half. The cold temps and the wind kept me moving and I ended up with a PR!!
This Coming Week –
- Monday – Turkey Trot Training Group?? Most likely a rest day or a local 3 miles
- Tuesday – drive to LI, 3 miles (or a rest day because rain is predicted)
- Wednesday – work in LI, 4 miles
- Thursday -rest day, drive home
- Friday – rest day, hair appt, mah jongg
- Saturday – Girls on the Run 5K
- Sunday – Turkey RaffAL fun run – 5 miles

Happy Running! How is your running going? What’s new with you? Any big races on the horizon? Please share.
Nicely done on the PR, and I love the leggings
Humid wind off the Hudson sometimes happens — I need to get over there more in the winter. East River is often a cold wind
Good to know it’s lit – colleague wants us to try that and we might.

It’s not as populated as Central Park but there are still runners there and lots of bikers.

Wow, congrats on that PR! I love how well-lit NYC is for running. Construction on my running path in DC seems to have the lights off temporarily. Did you go zip-lining?

Nope. I just watched which made it very cold for me.

Oh wow, snow already?? Yikes! Although we are going to have freezing overnight temps starting tomorrow so I guess winter is trying to make an early appearance.

I finally had a chance to run in central park and enjoy the beautiful foliage. Wow another PR you are on fire this year!

Did you love it?
Not many PRs this year but I’ve run a lot of races and have won many age group awards.

This is the time of year that I ran in Central Park. I remember how pretty the trees were! Congrats on the 15k PR. All of my PRs have come on very cold days. I bet zip-lining in the snow is pretty cold. But, I know the kids enjoyed it anyway. Thanks for linking!

I was freezing. The kids were having fun.
I wish I could see the trees…too dark!
I agree. It’s easier to run fast when it’s cold and windy and you just want to be done.

Congrats on your PR! Gotta love when the wind gives you a little push. I’ve had a ton of that lately… anyways, enjoy the cooler weather!

I enjoy the warmer weather more. I love sunshine not wind and rain. Boo!

My workout consistency has been pretty terrible lately–I really need to get back on it! I can’t believe it’s snowing over where you are already! x_x Stay warm!!

Too early for this weather!!
It’s very difficult to fit in workouts. Life seem to get in the way and once you take a break, it’s hard to get back at it.

That’s so nice that NYC is light enough to run in the dark 🙂 Seattle was like that too. Sadly, my suburban neighborhood definitely doesn’t have that. I’m still working on figuring out how to make the schedule work for Winter. Your post reminds me that we have a local park that may have lights where I can run in the evening. I’ll have to check it out. Congrats on the PR!

My local neighborhood is completely dark too. I have to run at the college.

Congrats on the PR!! I’ve only done one 15K. It was an interesting distance, but my race was on a 5K out and back course, so it got boring doing that routine 3 times LOL

I hate repeated loops. There aren’t many 15ks around here either.

A very active week and congrats on the 15K PR! Now that it’s so dark in the evenings I have to admit that it’s made me less likely to go for a run after work. I need to get ready have my reflective gear and knuckle lights charged up since my ‘hood can be pretty dark!

I know what you mean. I’m here at work right now when I should be out the door running.

I take this time of year off of training and just run when I feel like it. I try to focus a little more on strength training instead! I hate running in the cold!

I hate running in the cold too but I keep signing up for races so I have no choice.

That’s what I call a good training run.
Good thing you stayed upright on all the slippery leaves at the park, too!

Yes. Surprise. You never know what race day will bring. I seem to run better with many days off so that my legs are well rested.

Congratulations on your PR! 15Ks are great to run, and I’m so glad yours went so well.
I hate running in the rain, too, and would probably have taken a pass.

Great job on the PR!! I have never done a 15k, but this one sounds great. I am totally with you on running in the rain…I typically will opt for the treadmill on a rainy day!

There aren’t many 15ks. I’m running the Hot Chocolate one in April.

Well done on that 15 km PR! The 15k is my favourite distance although races are so few and far between! I find it more challenging than a 10k but not as tough as a Half.
