It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.
Unfortunately I have too much experience for this topic. My recent two 5ks were in the rain In fact, the forecast for tomorrow’s half marathon is RAIN!!!
FIVE TIPS FOR RACING IN THE RAIN:
1. BRING A PONCHO OR GARBAGE BAG.
I don’t usually run in this but many people do. It’s for before the race and standing around in the starting corral. You can buy them in the Dollar store.
2. WEAR A CAP.
Even if you’re not a hat person, this will keep the water out of your eyes and off your face.
3. USE BAG CHECK AND BRING DRY CLOTHES.
You may have to arrive earlier or go out of your way, but a change of clothes is always welcome when you are soaked.
4. PROTECT YOUR PHONE.
Don’t leave it behind just because it is raining. Use a plastic bag or put it in your racing belt.
5. SMILE ANYWAY.
You paid for the race. You can’t do anything about the weather. So have fun.
*FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES.
** DON”T FORGET ABOUT CHAFING AND BLISTERS.
Water makes it worse if you are susceptible.
Wish me luck:
Happy Running! Any other tips for racing in the rain? Would you DNS? Who else is running Brooklyn tomorrow?
Hopefully it won’t be too bad. Have fun! Look around!
I, OTOH, will probably be racing (yes, much less time) but it will be a cold rain up here. What is it about 5ks & cold rain lately? Although I kind of wish Freihofers could be that way . . . well, a slightly warmer rain anyway. Or maybe it will be really nice weather!

ran in the rain last Saturday for a 5k. not fun and it was cold. Bumped into Denise last night in the middle of a race with 10,000 runners. What are the odds?

I’ve had that happen in races — even with more people! It’s a small world.

Good luck on your race, even through the rain. You have some great tips on running in the rain here. I haven’t experienced racing in the rain much, but I do have experience racing in extreme cold temperatures, and I think I’d take the rain !

I don’t know about that. I think I prefer the cold – just wear layers.

Hopefully the rain with be light, or non-existent, tomorrow. I don’t mind if it starts raining during a race, but it’s mentally hard to start a race when it’s pouring. The hat is a must!

No. Harder harder and cold and windy. Took quite a while to thaw out.

I like to have someone hold on to some dry clothes for me at the end that I can change into. That’s usually my husband’s job.

That’s great. Unfortunately I usually race with friends. No hubby to help me out.

I’ve run a few races in the rain and the worst part for me is after I finish–I get really chilled quickly! If it’s raining or threatening rain, I check a bag of clothes at gear check to change into.
Good luck this weekend!

Exactly. I froze after today’s race. I couldn’t stay for the after party I was so cold.

These are great tips. My client is racing in the rain today. I received a bunch of panicked texts yesterday. I’m sure she’s fine but I can’t wait to hear how it went for her.

Hope things went well. You can’t control the weather.

I’ve only had one race (half marathon) in a complete downpour – not much to do except embrace the situation. Good luck!!

I used to never wear at hat or visor while running, and it was running in the rain that changed that for me. It makes such a difference when you’re able to keep the water off of your face.

I wear them also just to keep my hair out of the way.
