Yes, I returned from Florida to cold temps and snow just like the weather was before I left. And I headed to NYC for work. Some things never change.
Last week –
- Monday – Today was my last day in Florida and I decided to make the most of it. I drove to the Hutchinson Island Bridge and ran over it and then to the beach and back over the bridge. Then I met an old friend for brunch and a long chat before I had to head to the airport. After a long delay in Philly, I arrived home…to winter.
- Tuesday – With more snow predicted, I decided that I best squeeze in another run. And I did.
- Wednesday – The storm was mild where I lived but not where I was headed. I took the train to NYC for work. I had hoped to run but…not in a blizzard. Instead I grabbed cheap tix to a Broadway show.
- Thursday – A long work day but I was determined despite the snow to run. So I hopped a subway to Central Park and ran my usual loop and then added a loop around the Jackie Onassis Reservoir.
- Friday – Another work day with no time to run since I had to catch a train home.
- Saturday – I had planned to join my Freihofer’s training group for their first Sat. run and then go the the March but changed my mind. I decided to stay home (haven’t been there in quite awhile lol) to spend the day with the hubby, unpack, do laundry, etc. before heading out for dinner with my tennis buds.
- Sunday – Race Day. Shamrock Shuffle, a 5 mile race. I was happy that the race began at 11 am since I had to drive an hour. And as usual I enjoyed racing and meeting up with friends. Winning my age group and having a course PR was just icing on the cake.

according to my Garmin, it was a ONE second PR!!
This Coming Week –
- Monday – drive to Liverpool, NY for work, 4 miles
- Tuesday – rest day, drive home
- Wednesday – train to NYC, 4 miles
- Thursday – 4 miles in NYC
- Friday – rest day, train home
- Saturday – Ice Breaker Challenge 5K race, 4-5 more miles, Passover seder with friends
- Sunday – rest day, Easter dinner with the fam.

Thanks. When I think it’s can’t get busier, it does show rain in the forecast and even snow next week. UGH!!!!
I need another vacation.

Some of us are waiting a loooooooong time for a vacation.

You should have picked an earlier half. There are plenty of winter ones. Lol.

It’s a good thing I didn’t. It would have been a disaster because I really don’t do well if I don’t train properly and I wasn’t able to.
Not talking about finish time either — just the fact that I had trouble when I started to run again after a relatively short break is what I mean — if I’d been pushing myself it could have ended really badly.

People forget when they take time off you don’t start where you left off. If you ran 3 miles before they recommend you run 1 Mile and then 2 Miles etc

I didn’t forget. I started back with 2 miles. My problem was not realizing I needed to shorten up my run intervals.
But I would never have been half ready this winter.
Although you can take a vacation without running a race. Or should I say one can?

Yes, one can. It seems that I cannot LOL

Have to adjust your race goals. When I didn’t train properly due to injury, I just walked half the race…but it wasn’t a race-cation, at least. I have a friend who walked the WHOLE RnR DC half because she had a sore knee. She still enjoyed the weekend and the race.

I walked a whole half with an injured friend. She probably shouldn’t have done it, but she was injured for it the previous year, too. Sometimes it really is wiser to DNS.
And if I’m in pain — I mean, lasting pain, not the normal aches, then no, it’s just not fun. For me, anyway.

Does it even feel like you went away? I look at my Florida pictures and think it must have been a dream!

I do see snow showers in the long range forecast. I hope that they are wrong.

What part of Florida did you go to? I bet it was a big change going home to snow! It’s hot and humid down south again. Congratulations on a great race and AG award!!

I was on the east coast – Delray Beach – Sebastian. It was warm but not hot and not that humid.
A big change from the weather up in the NE.

Fun race!! Way to get in your runs with the snow. I managed a mid week run just before our snow storm!

That had to have been hard, mentally, to go from Florida weather back to snow. I hope you guys get spring once and for all – no more snow – very soon!

The return to reality is always difficult, especially when you go from warm to cold weather. The snow last week didn’t help either, I’m sure.

Nope. I am savoring the memories. It doesn’t look spring is arriving here any time soon.
